“Nice location”
Reviewed 10 December 2012 via mobile

This was the usual basic no frills room, but we don't waste money on expensive hotels when we only need a comfortable bed. Great location, as mentioned before, hard to find but so is everything in Venice which is what we loved about Venice. Room was nice and quiet.

Although you have to carefully look at a map to guide you through the small alleys to find it, the hotel is 2 minute walk from San Marcos square. My husband and I really enjoyed the location, cleanliness of the hotel, and size.. although, I might add that the bathroom is very small. Make sure you close your windows while you are out enjoying Venice otherwise the mosquitos will eat you alive at night. The breakfast was okay, lots of bread and spreads. We would have enjoyed our stay a little better if the customer service was not so bad. The front desk lady was rude upon arrival and did not necessarily greet us. I was "shooed" away with a hand gesture after she collected all necessary documents. We at first were not sure if it was a language barrier, but no.. the other employees confirmed what we initially thought. The asian lady who is in charge of breakfast and room serivce was/is extremely rude. Never greeted, had an unfriendly look on her face everyday, rushed to get you through breakfast and out of your room, and had an overall bad attitude. At one point, we passed her in the hallway and greeted her, she responded with "oh... you leave today." The wifi is not free and is pretty pricey for the amount of time you get. As mentioned.. the hotel is nice, but customer service needs improvement.

The Locanda silva was quite small with basic facilities but adequate for a long weekend. It was difficult to find but quite central and convenient. The room was clean and cared for, average size. nothing spectacular but nothing bad. Could have done with tea/ coffee facilities in the Hotel as coffee places are rather hard to find in the evening around the island as they seem to cater for meals or just alcohol. Breakfast was good and the location was very good. Would stay there again but would take a travel kettle next time.

Room Tip: there are ensuite and shared facility rooms available. We prefer ensuite .

I spent 8 nights here in late summer. The nearest vaporetto/Alilaguna stop is San Zaccaria.

Their glossy website is overly flattering.

Everything just about acceptable, but nothing at all exceptional.

Be warned that mosquitoes can be a real problem. If you go when it's warm, you will need insect repellent. The little canal just below is a bit of a service canal, meaning you won't really find tourist gondolas using it, but industrial boats delivering goods or collecting dirty laundry. This can mean it gets a little noisty early in the mornings.

I had to speak to the Chinese/Filipino lady who supervises the breakfast. Her attitude was totally, totally unacceptable. I explained to her that, in the English speaking world, we do not rudely yell "Yes???" at guests, we say "Good morning, how are you today?". I liked to think she got the message after a couple of days. One morning, I was chased out of the breakfast room for being 10 minutes too early. The next day, there was no problem.

Pleasant enough proprietor and staff. Wouldn't rush to stay here again, however.

Room Tip: Canalside for better views and plenty of mosquitoes.

Stayed at Locanda Silva a week ago for one night. Very helpful staff however no lift/elevator and our room was on the third floor. We had to lug our heavy luggage up four flghts of stairs! UGH! Rooms sufficient but could really use a paint job. Probably wouldn't stay again.

This B&B is conveniently located near St. Mark's square, yet there is little street noise at night. We stayed in a double room with attached bath, and it was perfectly adequate for the two nights we were in Venice. The bathroom was small (which is to be expected in Europe), and the shower had a little mold at the edges. Breakfast was simple, and the staff friendly. Overall, a good value for those looking to save a little money on accommodations in this expensive town.

..and a comfortable room. Stayed here for one night in October and weather was cool but can imagine rooms get hot in the summer, so I couldn't comment on air conditioning, but everything else about this hotel is nice and pleasant! I had a room with a basin and the shared shower was just a short walk down the corridor, it was clean and not busy. Would stay here again for sure - very good!
