“Budget.....nothing fancy”
Reviewed 11 October 2013

This hotel has location going for it, and that's about it. Located near San Marco Plaza the Locanda Silva is at the confluence of two picturesque small canals. We managed to walk directly to it, which apparently is a bit of a miracle.....make yourself a good map, memorize it, and it a really is fairly straightforward short walk from the San Zaccaria Vapparetto stop. We were pretty much eaten alive by mosquitos. The beds are saggy. The bathroom is about the size of one in the cabin of a night train.....teensy. Reception is a bit cranky, but they did give us two sessions of free wifi for 45 minutes each day, which sort of worked in the room. I'd like to give this inn 2 1/2 stars instead of 3, as it isn't really even quite average. But it is OK. Venice is incredibly expensive for lodging and this place is reasonable. We ended up enjoying our stay, mosquito bites notwithstanding!

Adequate Hotel. No lift and breakfast was minimal. Rooms were okay but bathrooms were on the small side. The only real problem was that there were misquotes because the maids left the windows open during the day. Discounts for cash.

Room Tip: Request a room with a canal view or you will be looking at a wall lest then 5 ft from your window.

We recently stayed at this hotel and definitely would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone! Please skip this hotel and keep searching. We had reservations 7 months ago only to show up on our appointed date to be told we would need to change rooms after the first night. When we checked into our room we found the bathroom hadn't been cleaned so we had to make the trek downstairs to report it. They said it would be cleaned in 1 hour so we left for dinner and returned 3 hours later to find it still dirty! They never did clean it, we had to move into another room after the first night and we found the staff arrogant, curt and not accommodating. Learn from our mistake: DON'T STAY HERE!!!

This hotel was my least favourite of our stays in Italy. It was a good location (short walk, behind St Marks) as stated in Rick Steves but was the most expensive of our hotels (even with the RS/2 night booking discount) and reminded me of a hostel. I would pay more next time and stay elsewhere. Think dated, budget cruise ship and you will have a good idea of the comfort of the rooms. Tiny, not that clean. We had booked several months ago but were asked to move after the first night which was a little inconvenient but the second room was a bit bigger so we agreed to the move. They gave us free Internet for this inconvenience. Breakfast was served in a common breakfast room and was very basic. Beds were hard, the pillows were the flattest, hardest pillows I have seen in my whole life (I'm 57)! The sheets on the bed did not cover the whole mattress and were too small to be tucked over the sides so wouldn't stay put which I think is kind of gross. They could do more to make this a more comfortable stay but I guess they don't have to. I won't be back.

Room Tip: Don't think they have any good rooms.

The location of this place it's really good , your in the center and near the action of Venice , just steps from San Mark square but the room it's depressing , dirty , dark, sad , the bathroom which you have to share it's more depressing than the room .... But location it's wonderful hands down and prizes are good considering your in Venize

I booked this hotel for me and my husband expecting a very basic but clean room. When we checked in we found a room that looked worn and uncomfortable. Very dim lighting. Hard lumpy mattress. The kind of bathroom you would expect to find on a boat or a plane. Stains on the floor of the shower. Linoleum floors that looked stained with age, if not current dirt. No fridge, no TV. WiFi only if you paid for it. No air conditioning which we could handled except for the window shutters had no stays, so they would constantly bang shut. All night we were woken up by shutters banging and the sounds of people in the next room or people walking along the canal (and we were on the 4th floor). Since we had the windows open due to stifling heat we also had mosquitoes buzzing around our heads all night. The lobby and some of the common areas seemed to have been redone more recently so maybe some of the other rooms are nicer. But we were miserable. The staff was nice. When we checked out early (after the first night) they were very concerned about why we wanted to leave and were decent enough not to charge us for early check out. The hotel is in a great location, close to a lot of tourist attractions. Most hotels in Venice are much more expensive so if cost if a factor this may be ok for you. One other weird thing is they want you to leave your key at the front desk when you go out. We ended up switching to a hotel on Murano which is an island less filled with tourists and still has the beauty of Venice.

Fine location - in the center of Venice. To San Marko Square you will go only three minutes. To a stop vaporetto - 5 minutes. Set of restaurants and trattorias nearby, for example on the area near church Santa Maria Formoza.
Rooms are a little shabby, but everything is very clean, towels is ideal, and beds is convenient.
Lets you close windows and turn on the conditioner - so you will escape from mosquitoes.
Wi-Fi is not include (3 euros for an hour), but on the second floor is the computer which guests can use.
