All of the hotels in Venice are super expensive however I found the ALA very resonable and got more than I expected.

It's just off of St Mark's Square. If you take the Baglietto to St Marks get off make a left and go straight until you come to another street. Make a left, St mark should be at your back. Follow that street cross two bridges and you land right at the Ala.

The staff was freindly. The room had no view and was quite small, but those things didn't matter since I was out of the room 98% of the time. Just a note, the Air Condition worked extremely well.

Breakfest was great. They offered pastries/eggs/toast/and italian meats. The coffee was excellent. It was all perfect to start your day.

Wireless internet was available for $8 Euros which gave you 24 hrs of service. It worked perfectly.

Overall I have no complaints or problems with the hotel. For the price/location/ and service, I believe it's a bargain for Venice, however if you're looking for a view of the grand canal then be prepared to spend some money!

This place is simply awesome and very good value for the money. While staying in Venice is not cheap, the Ala (a Best Western) provided us with the most affordable option. Situated less than 100 yards from a water bus stop and a couple hundred yards directly off Piazza San Marco, it was easy to find (also has it's own canal entrance if you take a taxi or gondola). While our paperwork was completed at our arrival, the bell hop showed us our room. It was small, but well furnished, very clean and comfortable (including A/C). We dropped our bags and finished the check in. For a 2 Euro donation, we received our wireless access for the day and then set off to explore. There is a bar on site with live entertainment, though we did not go. Breakfast is included and it was excellent. It included everything from eggs to fruit and breads and a variety of other choices. Our rooms were cleaned daily, even if the do not disturb sign is left, including a straightening up of our pamphlets and brochures scattered over the desk. The in-room safe is free and uses a guest-created combo. I can think of nothing bad to say about this hotel whatsoever. A very excellent stay!

The hotel was just a few steps from the vaparetto stop and St. Marks square which was very convenient. A bonus was the high end shops between St. Mark's and the hotel. The room and bathroom were VERY small but the bathroom had all the necessary amenities. We had to take our luggage up steps to the 2nd floor but the bellman helped. The employees spoke pretty good English and were helpful.

We chose this hotel mostly because of its location - it's close enough to walk to St.Marc Square in 5 min., but as it's slightly off the main tourist tracks, the area is not crowded with people, and at night it's not noisy at all. Also, it's 2 min walk from a vaporetto stop, which means easy transportation. The hotel has both street and canal entrance, which makes it easy for those with heavy luggage to hop straight in a water taxi.

I stayed at Hotel Ala twice - first time, several years ago, in a double deluxe room on the second floor, with large french windows overlooking the canal, and antique furniture decorated with Venetian landscapes. This year, we stayed in a double deluxe room on the third floor - the windows were much smaller, but the room seemed bigger. Furniture was new and expensive-looking, and the bathroom looked new and spotlessly clean, with a jakuzzi. One small problem - there were no Q-tips and cotton balls in the bathroom, so bring your own. Wireless internet worked well, and was cheap - 2 euro per day.
Buffet breakfast was very good - lots of pastry and cakes, fresh fruit, quality cheeses, yoghurt (including low-fat), 5 or 6 kinds of cereal in individual small boxes, eggs, olives, mushrooms etc.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. I booked the room for 10 nights, but a week before the trip I found out that my return flight was canceled, so I had to fly back home one day later. I contacted the hotel manager Andrea asking to prolong my stay for 1 night, and he generously prolonged it for free!
By the way, in a square nearby the hotel (I think it was St. Mauruzio, but I'm not sure) a flea market works one weekend a month. It's highly worth browsing, especially for ladies - there were lots of beautiful things, antique jewelry, bead-embroidered victorian purses etc.
When I visit Venice again, I'll most likely choose Hotel Ala again, but next time I will specifically ask for a second-floor room with french windows.

The location was great; the breakfast buffet superb; but the best was the service. Laundry was in at 9 a.m. and back in the closet by noon. Phoned for more Kleenex and the maid came running instantly. I have not had that kind of service in a 5-star hotel! My room was a bit small, but I had a wonderful rate, and only wanted somewhere to sleep. The bar was a pleasant place to meet friends and relax over coffee or a drink. The other secret plus is that one can take a water taxi directly from the airport to the canal entrance to the hotel. What luxury. I would definitely go back there if I need to be in Venice.

We were very impressed with this stunning hotel. Ideally situated for the water buses, we arrived there after a short trip down the grand canal and found the hotel in a small square just a few metres walk from the canal. Very attentive staff; excellent service, lovely rooms and fantastic breakfast buffet. A short walk to St Marks and the Rialto - we would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quality short break.

We started a two week vacation in Venice at the Hotel Ala. We had just come from a long trip with flight delays and missed connections. We took a water taxi from the airport right to their door. Our room had a view of one of the small romantic canals just off of the Grand Canal. Several times while we were there Gondolas would come down the canal with music and singing which we watched from our window. The hotel, rooms and bathrooms were exceptionally clean. In the morning we enjoyed the included breakfast. They offered almost anything that you could want and plenty of it. We particularly liked the prosuitto ham with assorted cheeses and melons. They also offered eggs, cereals, fruits, juices and all kinds of pastries. They suggested a very nice restaurant for dinner which was a block away. It was also on a small romantic canal with gondolas docked out front. They supplied us with coupons for a 10% discount at that restaurant. The food was very good with a nice selection on the menu. We ate there two evenings! The location of the hotel is great. It is a couple of blocks from St Marks Square but in a quiet area. The best of both worlds! The staff was so good that they tracked down the same water taxi and driver that brought us from the airport to the hotel to take us to the cruise ship. They also were very accomodating in helping us exchange money at a very fair rate. We are looking forward to returning to both Venice and the Hotel Ala soon!
