After a recent cruise in the Mediterranean that ended in Venice we decided to stay a few nights in this wonderful Italian city. It had been a few years since we visited Venice and decided for this trip we really wanted to stay in a great location right on the Grand Canal. We chose this hotel for our stay and it was the perfect property. The location was ideal, right on the Grand Canal with a Vaporetto stop less than 200 feet away. The rooms were very clean and beautifully decorated. The staff was friendly and helpful including organizing our transportation from the cruise ship to the hotel. Also, there is a great bar that overlooks the Grand Canal. For this trip we decided to treat ourselves and spend the extra money to have a room that overlooks the Grand Canal which was worth every penny. Our room had three large double doors that each opened to a small balcony overlooking the Grand Canal which was an amazing view any time of the day. We highly recommend this hotel and the rooms with a view.

Our family of five (two adults and three pre-teen/teenage children) stayed for three nights in July 2013. We had a fine experience but some improvements would be appreciated.

Pros: Location is quite good. It is easy to find via water taxi (with a private dock) or the water bus dock is just a few feet away. It is located walking distance to all of the major attractions but also a bit removed so the area is not overly crowded which is nice.
We had two interconnecting rooms which were spacious and ideal for a family.
The bathrooms were both quite large and sparkling clean.
Our rooms were located on a side canal providing a quiet sleeping experience. The staff are friendly.

Improvements needed: This was the only hotel (out of six) during our entire trip to Italy that charged for wifi in the room. The hotel charges per device and per hour. It was also inconvenient and somewhat complicated to log-on and enter passwords each time wifi was needed. The rooms and hallways could use updating. The rugs were worn out in places. The beds were rock hard. One of our showers leaked water all over the floor every time it was used. The breakfast did not seem fresh and lacked any sort of special quality.

Room Tip: Rooms on the side canals are quieter. The hotel also offers interconnecting rooms which are nice for families.

This was my third visit to Venice so I knew a little bit more about where I wanted to stay. The location of this hotel is phenomenal. Right on the Grand Canal, steps to the vaporetto, and a close walk to everything without having to stay right in the thick of the crowds. Easy walk to San Marco, Rialto, Accademia bridge. Also, very close to a grocery store so you can pick up snacks/drinks for the room. We arrived early and were amazed that not only was our room ready, but we had been upgraded to a junior suite. The room was well-appointed and quite spacious with windows on three sides and a side canal view. A lovely bottle of prosecco was delivered to our room within 10 minutes of checking in. The good life! The staff were very pleasant and helpful at all times. We looked forward to the breakfast every day, which contained a lot of variety and great food and capuccinos. In short, Venice is one of my favourite cities in the world, I plan to return, and Palazzo Sant'Angelo is my first choice of hotel as far a value for the luxury you receive.

We arrived after a long day of traveling to a gorgeous room and a complimentary bottle of champagne. The staff is superb - friendly, knowledgeable, and helped us in any way possible.

Our first meal in Venice was room-service pizza (I know I know, but we were exhausted and I smelled) and it was by far the best pizza we had in Italy (and we ate a lot of pizza).

They have a great breakfast room and bar; reasonable priced. And you can't beat the location; it's just down the way from the Rialto Bridge and a short walk to all things Venice.

Room Tip: If you want a room with a view, be careful - since it is on the Grand Canal, it gets noisy early in the AM once all the boats start traveling around.

Wow! There is something great about being brought to the front of your hotel via boat. Truly remarkable! There is another great thing to be greeted with a smile, an extended hand to help you off the boat, and that same person telling you “Welcome to Palazzo Sant’Angelo!” I mean, come on! This is what movies are made of! We walked into the crisply air conditioned lobby and were very impressed by the cleanliness, beauty, and classy looking décor. The receptionist was very pleasant and the keys were given to the porter to take up our bags. Room 218, Junior Suite, overlooking the Canal – I was very excited about seeing what our room looked like – AND WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED! WOW, WOW, WOW! Our room was covered, wall to wall, with a sort of maroon and white striped type of fabric on the walls. Very elegant, not gaudy at all, and matched the maroon floor carpeting. This was more like an apartment than a hotel room in Venice, Italy and was GORGEOUS! You get what you pay for here: A French window, that opened up, and looked onto the Grand Canal, a small standing balcony that also looked out over the canal, a gorgeous king sized bed with spanking white stripped bedding, wonderful furniture, a large bathroom (complete with green marbled floors), and THE biggest walk in closet I have ever seen! We definitely had room for our luggage in that room! I was very pleased with how this room looked. The bed was comfortable, turndown service great, and who ever cleaned our room every night was meticulous! We really felt special here.
My only nit-picky thing here was the Wi-Fi – you CONSTANTLY had to get these recharge cards to add more hours to your main account. And, no matter how many times you ‘logged off’ to ‘save your hours’, you STILL had to keep getting these recharge cards from the receptionist and log in. Ugh, so annoying. The breakfasts were okay – simple eggs and plenty of cold cuts and cheese. Fresh fruit and fruit cocktail – EXCELLENT coffee and small pastries made this little continental breakfast worthwhile. I would get your Wi-Fi and breakfast included in your deal with the hotel. It’s worth it.
If you are staying here and have an opportunity – get that Canal View! There’s nothing like standing out there, sipping your prosecco, waving to the people in the passing boats!

Room Tip: Room 218 - Best View in this well appointed Junior Suite overlooking the Grand Canal.
