“5-Star Service at 4-Star Prices!”
Reviewed 9 September 2009

This hotel gets great ratings and they are well deserved.

We stayed for 4 nights, arriving at the train station and taking the vaporetto (water bus, #1 line - local) to the Sant' Angelo stop. How wonderful to find the convenient location wasn't wishful thinking from some copywriter's pen! It's hard for me to think of a $560 room as a great value, but the rules are different in Venice. The location simply cannot be beat -- Venice isn't that big to begin with, but you have most of the major sites within a 15-minute walk.

We stayed in a junior suite with a courtyard view. It was quiet as a tomb, with double-pane windows that opened for ventilation. The bathroom was modern, with double sinks and while not spacious by American standards, a darn sight better than 90% of what you find in Europe.

The breakfast buffet was acceptable for a hotel of this class -- a normal central European continental spread, with bacon and scrambled eggs for the British and American guests (the eggs were not warm, so be aware.) The hotel has a small lounge with canal-side tables for a drink or nightcap. There's no restaurant to speak of, but given its location, that's not a problem.

The staff had lots of recommendations on dining locations and is up to date on tourist site status, and their map is reasonably detailed enough for you to find your way through the habitrail that is Venice.

The staff is extremely accommodating and goes out of its way to make the guests comfortable, and this spirit affects everyone on the staff from the chambermaids to the general manager.

All in all, a great place. If there was a restaurant that matched the rest of the hotel, it would be a 5-star for sure. We will definitely return.

I recently stayed at this hotel for 1 night after our cruise ended in Venice. I would agree with the reviews on this site that the hotel has an excellent location. However we did experience one problem with the air conditioning. The room we had was on the 4th floor (room 47) and the air conditioning in this room didn't seem to be working. I reported this to the front desk and they responded that the hotel was full but they did bring a fan to the room which was appreciated. I would suggest you ask for a room on a lower floor.

The hotel also has a happy hour from 5 to 8pm but the food that was put out was really just chips, cheese and a few vegetables. It was nothing elaborate and the drink prices in the bar were very high. We spend $30 for 2 drinks while visiting their bar during their happy hour. That seemed high even for Venice.

I do agree the breakfast was good and the service was excellent. The hotel did book us a private taxi to the airport and was very helpful in answering our questions.

Yes, I would probably stay here again but would make sure I'm not booked on the 4th floor.

The Palazzo Sant' Angelo hotel is situated directly on the Grand Canal, steps away from the Sant' Angelo vaporetto stop, and it also has it's own dock if you wish to hire a private water taxi. This is very important, because everywhere you go in Venice is by boat (vaporetto) and once you hit land, it's all on foot. So the last thing a weary traveler wants to do, is traverse narrow (but beautiful) vias and pathways with luggage in tow, as you try and find your Hotel. The staff was extremely professional, friendly and attentive and they all spoke excellent English. Stefano checked us in and set the tone for a wonderful stay. He was quite helpful, as was everyone we came in contact with. The room we were in was not on the water, but had a great view of a courtyard. Beautiful furnishings, a comfortable bed and a very large bath made our stay quite enjoyable. A great breakfast was included in our rate, but the location is adjacent to many fine restaurants, all within walking distance; including easy access to Saint Mark's, the Rialto and the Academia bridges. We don't think there's a better location; by day it offers stunning views of the Canal, and by night offers a gorgeous place to stroll. The rates were slightly expensive (but what isn't in Venice), but comparable to other four star hotels. However, with that price came remarkable value. When we return to Venice, and we will, we'll be staying here. Ciao.

This hotel is really spectacular. The location is perfect. The staff did a remarkable job of making us feel like we were their only guests. The breakfast was tremendous. Great bar for a night cap. I really can't say much more that hasn't been said by other reviewers...this is really a great hotel.

The front desk provided excellent service, answered all of our questions, and directed us to all of our requested locations, including a travel agent who booked our eurail reservations from venice to florence & florence to rome. The room was extremely clean and nicely decorated. air conditioning worked well. The bathroom was clean and spacious. the location of the hotel was so convenient, since it was right next to the sant'angelo stop and a water taxi took us directly to that stop for 13 euro. and the sant'angelo stop seems a lot quieter than the other stops (eg rialto). we would definitely stay at palazzo sant'angelo again.

After traveling for nearly 24 hours, we arrived in this incredible city and this most wonderful hotel. It is easily accessible by valporetta from the train station as it is right in front of the Sant Angelo stop. Upon arrival we were upgraded to the suite facing the Grand Canal! The room was so comfortable and quiet the slept late the next day and missed the breakfast. But not to worry, Venice is full of places for a morning cafe. The staff here was so friendly and helpful and breakfast the next day was delicious. Thanks for a memorable 3 days.

Excellent, well informedand helpful front desk. Gorgeous , very clean room with fantastic view of Grand canal. Location was primo, vaporetto(public transportation) right outside the door. We were upgraded to a 2 room suite, nice sized sitting room plus bedroom. The bathroom was off the sitting room which is a better configuration. Breakfast was better then a standard continental. Absolutely a Top Elegant Small hotel.
