“Saved from disaster by good location and quiet nights”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

We booked this hotel through Travel Republic, usually very reliable, but realised it didn't have great reviews. Hotel's own website is thoroughly misleading giving grossly overblown opinion of itself. Our room was up 4 flights of stairs (no lift) and was dingy and in poor repair. Bedding was shabby, e.g. cigarette burn in pillow case. Bath was nice but could only fill by shower as diverter lever stuck. Breakfast was poor - each client was 'issued' with one croissant on arrival in the cramped eating area (some were filled and disgustingly sweet), juice was over-sweetened concentrate, bread rolls were dry and tasteless. No fruit or hot food. Coffee was at least OK. Staff seemed surly and unhelpful. The 'locked' left luggage room for our final day after checking out was wide open and unsupervised when we arrived to collect our bags - luckily still intact.
Just as well Venice itself more than made up for the inadequacies of the hotel.

The entrance looks attractive and the name of the Hotel sounds luxurious although the rooms are very dated and small, not ideal for a family stay. All together, the service is good but not ideal for a family stay.

This hotel is ideal for the sights in Venice. You are steps away from the boat stop (San Zaccaria) and minutes from St Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace. There are umpteen restaurants, cafes, ice cream parlours, shops and stalls in every direction. It is down a very small alley and therefore it is very quiet both day and night.
The hotel is tastefully decorated throughout with a beautiful marble staircase as you walk in. Although there is no lift the staff were keen to help to carry luggage if needed.
The staff were all extremely helpful and very pleasant at all times. The ensuite room we stayed in was compact and always spotlessly clean.
The breakfast is basic but there was plenty of it and the service was very quick and efficient.
Thoroughly recommended and would definitely look forward to staying there again!

The hotel is less than 5 mins walk from St Mark's square, and is next to two Alilaguna stops (San Marco and San Zaccaria) so is in a brilliant location. Right outside the hotel are an assortment of restaurants (paying about 9 euros for a pizza), a Guiness bar and several bakeries which sell a variety of ice creams, pistachio cakes (amazing!) and big blocks of chocolate. It is really easy to find as well which is brilliant! Really enjoyed our stay here- the receptionists were lovely, and incredibly helpful. A map is provided in reception, and if you're ever uncertain about how to get about they will happily direct you. We were provided with a light breakfast of pastries and then a selection of bread, cheese, yoghurts, cereal and juice. Hotel is in a perfect location for exploring as is close to everything, and is much cheaper than other hotels located the same distance from St Mark's. Definitely recommend!

Room Tip: Higher rooms offer an amazing view- but beware of the stairs!

Excellent location!!! Value for money, clean and proper. Helpful staff but Philippino receptionist (night swift) unfriendly and unhelpful. Breakfast can be supported with more items such as eggs, cheese and ham.

Easy to find, just 2 streets from st marcs sq. we arrived at lunch time and popped in to see when we would be able to check in. we were greeted warmly and given our key immediately!
A lovely lady showed us to the breakfast area and our room. The hotel is set in 3 different buildings, each lovely and authentic. The whole place has brocade walls and painted matching furniture. The room was very small, but perfectly adequate for our purpose, with a good sized clean bathroom.
Breakfast was basic, but good and fresh. not just a croissants as someone said...bread rolls, melba toasts and lots of choice to go with these, plus yogurt, cereal and juice.
Location could not be beat! In one of venice most charming little alleys, just a stone throw from its finest sights.

Found down a small alley this petite establishment offers cozy rooms in the traditional Venetian style with brocade wall coverings and small rooms. But if you want to spend time absorbing the extraordinary aspects of this unique city the bijou hotel is ideally placed for exploring.
