Top left corner of Venice island...really fascinating place, where you won't get ripped off when it comes to food and drink. Not many tourists here...mostly for the locals, as you'll find when you visit some of the eateries, which are atmospheric, busy, frantic, and, yes, a bit noisy...but that's part of the fun here.

I often stay in the Cannaregio sestiere when I visit Venice. It is less expensive to eat and there are some great restaurants around. Its close proximity to the Santa Lucia station makes it a most convenient spot.

The only place to stay in Venice. It's so crowded in other parts of the city and this is like being at home, eating great food, staying out of the fray. A simpler, better way to see Venice. The vaporetto stops are close and its nice to get out of the "theme park" atmosphere when you're done sightseeing.

The main street (entirely pedestrian) through Cannaregio changes names multiple times, but it is easily accessed from the area of the train station or the San Marcuolo vaporetto stop. It must go on for nearly a mile or more and is lined with interesting shops, cafes, restaurants, churches, and, of course, wonderful architecture. For people-watching, it is hard to beat having a seat in one of the big outdoor cafes, ordering a spritz (a great local apperitif), and watching the world stroll by.
