“Peaceful & beautiful”
Reviewed 18 December 2013

When I die, bury me here! We'll ok, it's a bit far for my loved ones to visit so perhaps not, but the place is incredible and worth seeing.

“nice break between Venice and Murano”
Reviewed 17 December 2013

We stopped for an hour to have a quiet walk between the toms and graves. There are different parts of the cemetary, that are differently arranged. Adjacent monastery is nice and quiet and you can see its inner court.
We visited on Sunday, but didn't meet many neither tourists nor locals.

“Moving and deeply thought provoking”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

Stopped off here on our way to Morano (which proved disappointing) and San Michele - the ‘Island of the Dead’ - will remain long in our memory. Profoundly thought provoking; photos of the deceased, momentoes and relics within gated tombs, the mass burial area for nuns, expressionist sculptures... all combine to bring powerfully home the very transient nature of life in this otherwise incredibly vibrant city. You’ll be moved and quietly humbled.

“not only for the famous burried there”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

Foreigners should know, if you don't have already a family-grave there, there is no way to "end up" there...

“A nice change of pace between Venice and Murano.”
Reviewed 5 September 2013 via mobile

I had had quite a hectic morning trying to see some of the more obscure things that Venice had to offer, and I didn't really fancy rushing around Murano with the rest of the crowd on my vaporetto. Just before you get to Murano, some vaporetti stop at the small island of San Michele, the cemetery of Venice.

I wasn't really planning to spend long here, which worked out just fine. The cemetery is very pretty, but it is very repetitive and after about 5 minutes I was ready to move on to Murano.
