My friends and I chose the hotel because of its good location (next to St Marks Sq, across from Hard Rock Café) and also because it has a private docking for boats, gondolas and water taxis. However, as it turned out, no water taxi wanted to dock there as it was congested with gondolas. We could have chosen a better hotel even without private docking !! However the service was very good, the staff always helpful and friendly. Shops and restaurants were an easy walk away. However there were a number of items that made us wish we should have chosen a different hotel, such as poor WiFi, TVs with tiny screens, and the bar closed early.

Room Tip: Choose a canal-facing room (with extra cost), very picturesque with all the gondolas parked there.

We stayed a few days in this hotel in the end of september 2012.

It is in a gorgious location, near a park for gondollas and harry's bar!

Our room was nice, a bit noisy (poor isolation).

Staff is professional, bar is very nice place to drink a glass!

Good remebering about this hotel!

The only good thing about this hotel was the location, it's situated just next to st marks square..the female staff was extremely rude, we tried asking her for suggestions on where to dine and she snubbed us very rudely by telling ask to walk along dark alleys in hope to find an open restaurants without giving us names or details and it was just 9 pm.. The room was very tiny we could barely move.. Don't even get me started on the bathroom .. All in all we had a bad experience there...:(

We had trouble locating this hotel purely because none of the maps show the numerous passage ways leading off of St Mark's Square and it takes a while to realise how small Venice is - what looks like a long way on the map is just a short distance in reality. Once we discovered the alley and passage ways we couldn't believe how close we were.

Our room was smaller than we are used to, but clean. It had a small balcony, just enough to stand on, and the view was over the roof tops. As it was July and the hottest for 10 years (38C) with 100% humidity we kept the doors shut and the air-con on. There was a small bar fridge in the room, but this was not working properly and although I reported the fault to the concierge, it was not fixed before we left. Like many continental hotels, there is no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. So take a travel kettle and some supplies if you are the sort of person who needs a coffee or tea first thing in the morning.

Breakfast is the usual self service buffet arrangement with all the usual meats, cheeses, cereals and pastries you tend to find on the continent.

Room Tip: From inside our room on the 4th floor we could constantly hear the lift motors. We did not find this too obtrusive as we slept soundly, but if you are light sleeper then it may be worth asking for a room on one of the other floors or on the 4th, but away from the lifts.

The title of our review sums it up: GREAT location, rude staff and hardly any wi-fi to speak of.

To us, the most important aspect of a Venice hotel is their location, and this one is EXCELLENT. Situated right next to St. Marks Square and overlooking the gondola station where you can take a romantic gondola ride within feet of the hotel entrance. Granted, the walk (with luggage) from the water taxi is a bit long, but worth the aggravation.

Some of the negative: Most of the staff did not speak English, something unheard of in a European tourist city. And, the staff members that did speak English made it clear by their actions they really hated dealing with American guests. Again, unheard of since the Americans are spending the most money to keep them employed.

Today, a good wi-fi connection is CRITICAL, especially trying to handle emails, etc. while you're away from home. All the staff acted "surprised" when we told them we couldn't connect. Yet, if you read a lot of the reviews on this place, you'll see a high percentage of people complaining about this, on a daily basis.

The great location outweighs all the bad. We would stay there again, but next time, we would be prepared for a few negative things.
