This hotel is basically attached to Piazza San Marco (St Marks Square), just walk to the back of the northwest corner of the square, through a passageway, over the small bridge and you are there. We stayed in room 2405 and had a porter take us up to our room after we checked in and were very glad we did. After many twists and turns and a few more staircases (the elevator did not take us all the way) we arrived to a very nice, spacious and fairly private room overlooking a small courtyard and views of the top of St. Marks Basilica and the square's Campanelle (Tower). The room has a safe, just get the key at the front desk for a 20 Euro refundable deposit. The bathroom was a good size with a large bathtub. Great hot and cold breakfast in the morning with cereals, fruit, eggs, bacon, cheese and meats to enjoy while overlooking the lagoon and the gondolas. There are also three separated 2-person balconies overlooking the lagoon where we enjoyed a nice glass of wine and people watching as they got on and off the gondolas. The gondoliers are interesting to watch too, as they banter together and guide their gondolas around the tight lagoon. The bar opens at 5-5:30 in the evening and Paulo the bartender was excellent and remembered exactly what we were drinking from the evening before. Front desk staff were excellent and one fellow (can't recall his name) without hesitation knew our room number when we came in at the end of the day to pick up our key. The location is excellent. St. Marks is unbelievably busy during the day but you pretty well have it to yourself early in the mornings or evenings where you can stroll with a gelato and listen to the orchestras situated outside of the restaurants in the square. Also very close to the vaporetto (water bus) and alilaguna (airport ferry) stops. Venice is easy to walk around (and get lost in) but only has 2 major bridges across the Grand Canel. We found the Traghetti ( 2-man gondola ferry) at 2 Euro pp to be very helpful in getting across the Canal quickly and efficiently saving us a few steps. Just look for Traghetti signs at street corners to direct you.
I would have given this hotel a 5 star rating except the beds dipped in the middle and the wifi did not work for us, but we were able to use their computer in the lobby which was ok.
