“Ugly hotel and you need rain boots”
Reviewed 23 November 2013 via mobile

We just spent 2 nights in Venice in this hotel. I booked this one after reading the good reviews, but to my surprise it was not what I expected. It is a very old and ugly hotel. Even though it is clean it feels dirty due to the old furniture, bed, carpet etc. It is very near San Marcos but you can't get there easily because it is always under water! And you need rain boots to get out of the hotel! (For you and your luggage). The staff is not friendly and there is no restaurant or even water.

My daughter and I have just got back from staying at this hotel. Our room was on the corner with a lovely view of the canal and all the gondolas. We stayed on a Saturday night and although the Hard Rock Café is nearby the windows were equipped with shutters so we did not hear the noise. The breakfast was very good and plenty of it and the staff very helpful and friendly. The room and bathroom were clean and tidy and we had everything we needed. Very good value for money. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Er well er, mmmmmm I know I've given it 4ish stars and to be fair that's probably right. HOWEVER!

The rooms with a view of the Gondolas are great, until the guys rock up at 0730am in the morning and start singing just one coronetto!!!

So my advice would be, get a room away from the lift and at the rear of the hotel. The views good but not that good that you want to hear these geezers at daft o clock in the morning on your hols.

Breakfast was ok too- but get it with the hotel price otherwise you'll need a second (possibly third) mortgage to pay for it :-)

Overall, I'd still recommend it

booked a 2 pers. superior room through booking.com

Pluses:
- fair price for location
- excellent location
- Clean room and bathroom/toilet
- Room on rear has view on gondola landing stage and Hard Rock Café Venice

Minuses:
- no in room wifi, only in lobby.
- outdated furniture
- Fan not working (probably disabled due to the season)
- tv is more like pc monitor (did not watch any though)

We had a good stay. Basically only needed a place to stay the night. No regrets at all for choosing this location esp. right next to Venices' main attractions and Hard Rock Cafe (open till 1 AM).
The bed was not bad but not superior either.
Bathroom was spotless; shower in bathtub, sink with mirror etc., toilet and bidet present.

We booked our 4-night break as a bed-and-breakfast package. The price was not too bad for central Venice, so we were not surprised to have a room in the part of the hotel where the view was only of rooftops! The room itself was very comfortable with a very well-equipped bathroom. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, though, being English, I had difficulty obtaining fresh milk for my bedroom tea-tray and was offered pots of coffee-creamer!
The location of the hotel was perfect - 2 minutes from San Marco: the booming bell-tower rang out at 7am each morning and it was great to see the square waking up. We were able to walk or take the vaporetto everywhere and nip back for a rest or freshen-up whenever we needed to. The breakfast room offered a wide variety of buffet items, including plenty of fresh fruit salads and really hot water for beverages, and the treat was to sit near a window and watch the gondolas being cleaned and polished in preparation for the day's work. All in all, this is a comfortable and extremely convenient place to stay and we'd be happy to repeat it!

Hotel a little shabby, great location and staff were friendly, room was very tired and decor very dated, personally at the price it was £170 for a nice I would have expected better.

the best thing about this hotel is the hive of activity that surrounds the hotel, it a very short wall from St Marcs square and is right our side (what I can only call) the gondola station, was wonderful to watch from our window
