Hotel Ca' Formenta

We took the waterbus to Arsenale which is just 2 bridges and 300 yards away from the hotel and was just a 70 minutes transfer from the aeroporto. The location is quiet yet only a ten minute stroll to San Marco Square. The staff are very friendly, even providing a free shuttle to the Murano Glassworks where we saw a brief display before being offered a chance to buy items. Breakfast was plentiful with a good array laid out as a continental breakfast.
We only found two failings - A VERY firm bed and the smell of the sewers that seeped through after use of the shower (although we were told this is quite common in Venice).
Overall this was a gr8 find ina gr8 location that we would not heswitate to return to.

Room Tip: We were in Room 202 which had no view but was of a good size and was very quiet

Beautiful hotel only 2 bridges from the water bus stop. Really clean with very friendly staff. It provides a private taxi to murano island .Just get yr own water bus back from there to either f.de nova which is the first stop after murano and takes about 20mins plus 20 min walk back from other side of island or get bus back to arsenale which takes approximately one hour as it stops more often.

Location of the hotel is great, only a 15 minute walk from the main attractions and 2 minutes from the nearest water bus station. Breakfast was ok, though can get busy between 8.30-9am and was sometime tough to get a table. Couple of tables located outside looking out onto the waterfront but these were always taken up by a couple of smoking couples who stayed sat for hours. Room was facing the back canal, which was ok, though sometime loud later at night with boats coming and going but didn't hamper sleep too much. A few restaurants located next to the hotel, although these only offered the typical tourist delights, best to walk a little further. Supermarket only 5 minutes walk inland for bottled water.
Provided a complementary bottle of champagne for our engagement evening.

I would definitely stay here again! The location was brilliant and it was really easy to find which I could imagine with some hotels in Venice is a plus. The staff was really nice and even had a bottle of complementary prosecco sent to our room for our anniversary. I've forgotten our room number but it was huge and overlooking the waterway which was brilliant. The breakfast was different from what I am used to but I loved it. There was a selection of cereals, cheeses, hams etc...
The location couldn't have been better with the busy st Marc's square just a 5 minute walk away but right near the hotel was more quieter bars and restaurants which after a busy day sightseeing was just what I needed! Absolutely loved Venice and think we made a really good choice with this hotel!

We first stayed at Ca` Formenta in 2009, so knew it was a great hotel. Booked once again for 1 night pre-cruise in September.
Arrived by water taxi at around 20.00 (this cost €110) to the hotels private wharf at the rear of the hotel. We were delighted to find that we`d been upgraded to a room at the front of the hotel, with a window and little balcony. The rooms at the front have a stunning view across the lagoon.
Down into Via Garibaldi for a quick pizza and beer before strolling down the street, delicious glace on the way, and a walk along the waterfront.
We particularly like the width of Via Garibaldi which is less menacing for older people than some of the dark narrow streets in other parts of Venice.
Breakfast next day was bright and cheerful. Great service on the front desk, and advice to get to the cruise port. We walked to the Arsenale vaparetto stop and picked up the Alilaguna public boat which comes from the airport and goes to the cruise port. Note: this involved crossing 3 bridges, but at least ramps have now been installed over the bridges which makes it much easier with luggage. Note to self for future: The Alilaguna boat runs from the airport to the Arsenale vaparetto stop - much cheaper than a water taxi.
We will be back!

Room Tip: Pay more to get a room with a view at the front.

This hotel was so reasonable,I worried! But it was perfectly situated to the two Biennale locations.
While chatting with a Venetian resident he described the Castello area as 'the real Venice'. Few tourists, nice restaurants, a place for a pastry or gelato close by. The Via Garibaldi has historical connections with merchant explorerers that reached North America in 1497!
The hotel staff was very pleasant and helpful when I needed to be off early because of an impending strike, getting me coffee and a croissant at the crack of dawn. Very clean room, good wifi. Definitely worth being away from too much tourism, even without the Biennale.

Room Tip: For quiet ask for the back, not the Lagoon view.

Close to both the Giardini and the Arsenale, this hotel is perfectly placed for visiting these two sites if you are in Venice for the Biennale. Also close to the Arsenale stop for the Alilaguna boat from the airport. The neighborhood has a great bakery just down Via Garibaldi, and the hotel staff are efficient and friendly. Breakfast is good, with cereal, boiled eggs and the usual Italian meat, cheese and sweet dishes. Room was well equipped with the necessary items and very quiet at night, even though we had a room that faced directly on to Via Garibaldi. It's a bit of a walk to San Marco and the main tourist sites, but on a sunny day, walking in Venice is what it's all about.
