“Amazing stay in Venice!”
Reviewed 2 June 2010

Our second time in Venice, we decided to stay a bit more central and the location of the hotel is excellent, being a very short walk from St Mark's square. Although so close to the square it is remarkably quiet, the staff are very courteous and the service was excellent. The hotel is typical in style to most in the area, and it took a while to find, but after noting a few landmarks we had no trouble and although the streets can be confusing at first, you soon become familiar with your surroundings. Venice is notorious for being expensive, but we found plenty of nearby restaurants that were reasonably priced with excellent food. Tea and coffee facilities would have been handy in the rooms, though. Don't miss the island of Burano and the Lido - well worth a visit.

We had booked a four night stay at Ca' del Campo through a travel agent and hoped it would be alright. From the start we were not disappointed. The layout of the hotel inside takes a bit of getting used to but I suspect this is true of many venetian buildings. There are a lot of steps inside but a lift means this is not a problem. The reception area was light and welcoming and part of a large open area on the first floor. To one side of this there was an area with comfortable chairs where one could sit and read. Breakfast was also served on this floor and was a generous buffet style breakfast. The room we had on the third floor was clean, comfortable and a good size. The en-suite was spotless and again of a reasonable size. There were plenty of towels provided and these were changed everyday.
The location was excellent. Tucked away, do take a map or instructions when finding it, but less than a five minute walk from St. Mark's Square and the waterfront. The main sights of Rialto and Accademia Bridge were a comfortable stroll away, perfect for an evening walk after a meal.
In normal circumstances we would have considered this a perfect holiday. A wonderful city, good weather, a comfortable hotel. The afternoon before we were due to fly home british airspace was closed. This was when we really appreciated what a gem the hotel was. We were able to stay on at the hotel and to cut a long story short our four night break became an eleven night stay. During this time the staff could not have been nicer. They made us feel welcome and coped with our day to day re. booking of the room efficiently. This was sometimes late in the day due to our uncertainty about returning home. They helped out in many small ways which helped us to cope with an uncertain situation. We have heard tales of other travellers being ripped off by people charging extra for basic services and needs and generally making out of the situation. Our experience in Venice and at Ca' del Campo could not have been better. There were frustrations. No one likes to be told they can't go home and we were both due back at work. However, thanks to this wonderful city and the staff at the hotel I can honestly say we have very good memories of our extended stay in Venice.
This is the first time I have written a review of a hotel and generally I hesitate to recommend a hotel to others as everyone has their own needs and expectations. In this case I feel it is the best way to thank the management and staff of the hotel for their friendly and professional help. If you are looking for a hotel in Venice in this price range do consider Ca' del Campo 511. If I return to Venice it is the first place I will try to book.

You can't beat the location of this hotel, close to all the biggest attractions but still set in a relatively quiet and peaceful area. The staff needs to buzz you in to the building so we felt very secure. We had the family room on the first floor and were pleased with it. There were two bedrooms, each with two twin beds, very high ceilings with chandaliers, windows opening to the courtyard in front of the hotel and the small canal on the side of the hotel. The first night I made the mistake of leaving the windows open and found that the boat traffic (deliveries and trash boats) start very early and don't mind making some noise. One morning I just stuck my head out the window and watched the boat traffic for about an hour (I guess I am easily amused). It is amazing how they maneuver the boats, some of which are fairly large, in the narrow canals, with lots of boat traffic, mixed in with a good number of gondolas. We took a gondola ride from right next to the hotel through the smaller canals, we paid $80 Euro for a trip of about 35 minutes. That is the economy tour and they tried to get us to go for the $100 Euro option. I would do it again even though it was expensive. Get your Vaporetto passes ahead of time for a discount on a site called Venice connected. That site also has a virtual interactive walking tour in which I walked from San Marcos to the hotel and it made it easy to find when I actually arrived. Its easy to get lost in Venice, which is OK unless you are carting luggage with you, then it wouldn't be fun.
Here are the easiest directions to the hotel: Get off the Vaporetto near San Marcos Basilica, walk through the Piazza San Marcos (facing the front of the Basilica) and go to the left of the Basilica. Pass a small raised fountain area guarded by two stone lions and you will see the Hotel Concordia on your left. There is a small road or alley that actually splits through the Hotel Concordia, take that straight for about 100 yards, it is extremely narrow, single file in each direction, pass the hotel Monte Carlo, when you get to San Zulian church on your left, turn right onto Campo De La Guerra and the hotel is on your right just before you get to the canal.

Hotel Ca' del Campo took excellent care of us. Our room was easily changed to two twins when we asked, the desk staff were multilingual and professional, and everything was gleaming, clean, and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed our breakfast in the lovely dining area. We were a five-minute walk from the dock at the Piazza San Marco. Thank-you for a reasonably-priced, comfortable stay.

Ca' del Campo is a beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. The room was much bigger than I imagined, was quite comfortable, and gorgeous! Great canal views. Also, the shower was fantastic!!! Heating unit was adjustable, and there was a heated drying rack/towel warmer in the bathroom, both of which were of great use during our cold, snowy stay. Very easy to find, just straight down Calle Specchiere, to the right of the clock tower off to the right side of San Marco Piazza, and then a right turn onto Campo Del Guerra. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful, and even provided me with coffee on the morning of my 3am departure! Breakfast was, I thought, very good--especially the coffee!! If you'd like to use the internet, it's only E15 for 24h of time, so definitely worth it. Close to Rialto, vaporetto stops, and easy walking distance from the delicious restaurants that can be found in the San Polo sestiere. Would HAPPILY stay here again!!

Stayed there in March with family - 2 adults - 2 teens. Rooms were clean. Staff was very helpful. The location is great to access Rialto Bridge and San Marco square. Lots of little things nearby too for water, wine, snacks, etc. This was a very positive experience for us. I highly recommend it. The walk from San Marco square is not very far with luggage - and no bridges to cross. If you want to leave quicker - 2 bridges to Rialto for the ferry pick up and it is a quick ride to the Train Station. And there was even a Gondola ride to get ride outside.

This hotel is so close to San Marco square yet manages to be peaceful due to its superb location. Great Michelin starred fish restaurant just steps away from the hotel. We stayed with my daughter (27 years old) and enjoyed it very much.Rooms are a little bit small but very clean.
