Palazzo Abadessa is the most beautiful and welcoming place I've every stayed - and I travel extensively for both business and pleasure. The owners, Maria Luisa and Batista, tend both the extraordinarily beautiful historic building and their guests with the utmost care. All the rooms are individual gems, boatsing antique tapestries and paintings, ornate ceilings and period furniture. The breakfast room has portal onto one of the canals where you can arrive in style on one of the ubiquitous water taxis.

Most importantly, however, is the care with which the owners and their staff treat the guests. Everyone on staff makes a point of really getting to know the guests and their preferences, and they do everything they can to make one's stay as comfortable and luxurious as possible. I was introduced to Palazzo Abadessa by friends who stay there frequently. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by the staff as if I were family, and contiuned to be treated as such throughout my entire stay.

I simply can't say enough in favor of this beautiful, idyllic retreat in the middle of one of the world's most fascinating cities. I can't wait to return!

Usually staying in 5 star hotels, the traditional boutique hotel was perfect in all respects, far surpassing many 5 star hotels I have stayed. Location was ideal as a central base in Venice, and being very quiet. Rooms were heavenly. Staff very attentive, and overall service extremely high. There was no restaurant in the hotel, other than providing breakfast, but with the central location and an array of restaurants and cafes only minutes away, the was not an issue at all. Would definitely stay again.

You will feel like you are stepping into another century. Amazing place and great experience. And they were great with our dog too. I can imagine in nice weather the garden would be a wonderful refuge from being out in the city all day. Thanks for your hospitality.

I work in hotels in London and can honestly say that this place is just perfect if you are visiting Venice the first time or even for the umpteenth time. It is an old 'palace' i.e. private home of a prince and the decoration is just that. You are steeped in history and the rooms make you feel like you are a part of it. The staff are wonderful, discreet but attentive. Modern touches are there i.e. LCD's and wifi in the lobby (apparently in the rooms soon as well).
If i was putting my hoteliers hat on i would love to see a form of small bar for drinks in the evening as there is no restaurant, Silvana the manager welcomed this thought and really cares about running this for the guests.
Top tip : fork out the 95 Euro's for a water taxi from the airport (and back if you can) to the hotel door. 20-30 mins max and you really feel special. Take the hotel map and walk down to the Rialto bridge in 5mins. Will definately be back.

Our agents and agency stayed here in November - this property truly is like staying in a museum. The character of this hotel is amazing - the furniture is all period pieces and the decor matches that of a true Venetian palace. We had the large suite with stairs and loft with a large canopy bed and two beds in the loft. Large ceilings and a private terrace overlooking a quiet canal. Away from the crowded and noisy Rialto and St Marks area, but only a five minute walk or so to either. Great property for Honeymoons especially. Breakfast is a very nice selection of cheeses, breads, cereals, juices and fruits. The staff is very helpful and attentive - I must thank Stefano and Matteo and Darwin for their assistance and attention during our stay.

The reviews on here are mostly five or four star, which is probably true if you have one of the large rooms/suites (the clues are references to murano glass chandeliers, oil paintings, glorious furniture, large bathrooms, etc...) Be warned small rooms are grim, dank and dark, with cramped bathrooms and no sound proofing. If you have ordered a large room then great, the location is fabulous and the hotel sweet if eccentric. If you don't have a large room then go somewhere else because you will be miserable...

We traveled to Venice for the first time and stayed at Palazzo Abadessa, based on Trip Advisor reviews. We arrived by water taxi right to the front door. We had a lovely room with fresco ceiling, Murano chandelier, and a view over the canal. The bathroom was a little funky, but charming. Mateo was very helpful with directions and recommendations. Breakfast was served in a peaceful garden. The only problem, was a low doorway stepping into the bedroom, which my husband gouged his head on several times. Besides that it was a perfect stay, with easy access to everything.
