Care: Hotel is family owned (gracious sisters) with helpful staff on canal in safe area of Dorsoduro in Venice.
Comfort: Romantic venetian decor (2003); some rooms with 17th C. beams, view of canal & bridge; reasonably priced compared to many; clean, pretty bathrooms (our trips and 3 rooms have had showers only); great morning cappuccino - European breakfast menu.
Convenience: In a city of canals/bridges, arriving with luggage over one small bridge to Hotel is easy!
~ 5 min. walk to vaporetto (public water "bus") stop Santa Maria della Salute; 1/4 block to traghetto (public transportation gondola crossing Grand Canal);
~ Walk to P. Guggenheim Museum, Academia and bridge, many famous squares;
~ Short ride to Basilica San Marco, and connections to Lido and Murano islands;
~ Excellent restaurants in neighborhood (favorite = Casin dei Nobili);
~ If you have read and loved D. Leon books re: Venice: you better plan to stay a week!
~ We have stayed here 3 times(spouse, and college age family member) and would never consider staying anywhere else.

The best thing this hotel has going for it is its location in Dorsoduro near the Accademia. But in general I found the hotel expensive for what it had to offer. Moreover I had a bad experience checking in. I arrived in early October and was given a room overlooking a noisy side street - which would have been OK, except the air conditioning was turned off(I was told air conditioning in Venice is not permitted after October 1). Therefore I needed to leave the window open to the noise below. After much prodding, I was given a quieter room overlooking a small interior area way. The hotel advertises that it has air conditioning and the Venice weather in October can be warm. One down side of leaving the window open at night was the invasion of mosquitos. My room was slightly bigger than a large closet, but clean and quiet. While Venice is expensive, the Ca Zose is priced too high for what it is.

October 2009 - The Locanda Ca Zose was our choice at 145 Euros per night. The location is good - one vaporetto stop from San Marco. The owner is very friendly and helpful. The room and in-room bathroom were very clean and everything worked well. 145 Euros seemed high to us but we found that for a hotel of this class (a good 3 stars) in Venice the price was very reasonable. Less expensive hotels that have good reviews seem to require weeks if not months ahead reservations. The only thing that was not up to standard was the breakfast which was minimal compared to the other hotels we have used in Italy.

My 23 yr old daughter and I stayed here for 2 nights in Sept. We felt very, very safe and loved our location. We were away from the crowds and in the evening felt like we had the place to ourselves. We rode the gondola which was right around the corner over to the square ( just 1 euro)one of our best memories.
Rooms are quaint and very clean. Walls are thin-baby next door woke me up once, but mostly very quiet place.
Breakfast is OK. We would stay here when we come back to Venice

Venice is a very expensive city with many areas that are just crawling with tourists and people in the tourist trade. Locanda Ca Zose was a pleasant relief from both those problems. The room was very affordable, relatively speaking, and we felt it was a good value for the money. We paid approx. 185E per night (cash price) for three nights, and our room was very large. In addition to our double bed there was a separate twin which we used for storing luggage, but could easily have accommodated a third person. We also had a small sitting area with a table and 2 chairs, as well as a desk with a hidden minifridge in the cabinet. The bathroom was average size for Europe, which means fairly compact by American standards, but it was clean and well-maintained, and the fixtures were nice. Our room looked over the calle in front of the hotel, not the canal, but I don't see how a canal view would be better. Because there are mosquitoes in Venice most of the year (which the hotel staff warned us about!) you MUST keep windows closed from late evening through morning, so there would not be much opportunity to enjoy a canal view.

Breakfast was adequate but not great. The coffee / cappuccino was good, but everything else was pre-packed (pastries, yogurt, jams). We would have liked to have eggs or cold cuts in addition to what was offered. But the available items were presented nicely and staff was very prompt in delivering coffee and other beverages.

The hotel staff was very accommodating, and it was a nice bonus to find, at this price, a location where the front desk was staffed 24 hours each day. The hotel helpfully arranged a very early morning water taxi to the airport, which arrived on time and picked us up directly outside the hotel. It's expensive (100E) but necessary for early morning flights, and the hotel made it convenient for us.

The location in Dorsoduro is just fantastic. Within easy walking distance are major sights like the Salute, Accademia, and Ca'Rezzonico, as well as the San Marco area, but Dorsoduro feels "off the beaten path" and authentically Venetian. Being close to the Peggy Guggenheim collection and the Accademia Gallery means that the area around the hotel is home to a number of stores selling high quality paintings, prints and glass sculptures. The restaurants and bars are generally more affordable than the locations that surround Rialto or San Marco, but of course nothing is Venice is cheap. And walking down to the Dogana point at night is a very special experience - surprisingly peaceful and quiet in a city that can often feel somewhat crowded and claustrophobic.

We would definitely stay at Ca Zose if we have the opportunity to visit Venice again.

Stayed here for one night in September and found it to be well-run by friendly, helpful owners and staff. The room we had was quite spacious, clean with efficient air conditioning. The bathroom was neat and tidy with a good shower (ie plenty of hot water).
Breakfasts were really only average in terms of quality and rather limited in what was on offer. Coffe, however, was good. The breakfast room is very small and quickly becomes crowded and feels rather cramped.The staff on duty, though, were very pleasant and helpful.
The location is excellent: 5-10 minutes to Accadamadia and Guggenheim and a couple of minutes to the Salute stop. Set next to a quiet canal, it really is well-placed. Near Accadamia is Taverna San Trovaso which is worth a visit - good food reasonably priced.
Ca Zose offers fair value for money and given the great location (and the other plus points) we would definitely stay there again.

This small locanda in the Dorsoduro is run by two sisters who make you feel as if the hotel is your own home in Venice. Whether you need a water taxi booked, restaurant or shopping suggestions, or tips on getting where you're going - either Valentina or Graziella will go to no end of trouble to help you out. The location, almost in the shadow of the Salute, is ideal..we were home at night after the opera in la Fenice - on the other side of the canal- in ten minutes, one stop on the vaparetto. A 'trageheto', the gondola that will ferry you across the canal for 50 cent- is even closer (but has restricted operating hours). My friend's room and mine both had ancient beamed ceilings and a view of a small canal and bridge. The rooms are a comfortable size, furnished in Venetian style, with everything you could need including a TV and minibar, and a modern tiled bathroom. The staff who help the sisters with running the hotel are as accommodating as the owners themselves. The rates are modest enough that we splurged on a private water taxi to and from the airport. Arriving at the hotel steps by boat certainly added to the Venetian experience and was very well worth the cost (100 euro each way for up to four people).
