We stayed for 2 nights. The hotel is very close to the train and water bus station which is very convenient. The room is small like any other European hotel, in an island city space is at a premium and this hotel makes no exception of that fact so don't expect a large room or bathroom; the breakfast spread on the other hand is fantastic.

The staff was friendly, helpful and always ready to answer questions. We found this good value for money.

My mum and I visited Venice for 4 nights in April and chose this hotel to stay in.

I must say I was a bit daunted after reading the reviews but was happily surprised by the whole hotel stay!!

We flew into Marco Polo airport and Venice is only a 20 minute bus ride away (€11 return per person). The hotel is then a 10 minute walk from plaza Roma where all the busses stop.

The hotel has a tiny entrance on a lovely bustling street. There is a flight of stairs up to the main reception desk so bear this in mind if you having difficulty walking or need assistance on stairs. Staff at the desk are very friendly and polite. We checked in no problem and I borrowed a hair dryer from reception and you can ask for a free wifi code also (each code lasts about 12 hrs then you need a new one).

Our room was compact but the single beds were comfy and there was a decent sized wardrobe, dressing table and two bedside units. The colour scheme was very...er...red and this made the room feel smaller than it was!!! Bathroom was also small but the shower was really powerful and hot and you got free toiletries everyday and towels changed every two days. Everything was really clean too. The aircon worked well. Our view was of a rear courtyard which was fine, not brilliant views but nice and quiet!

Bit of advice- bring a mosquito repellant for the room, I got covered in bites!!!

People have said the buffet breakfast wasn't good...I loved it!! You got croissants, bread rolls, different types of cereal, yoghurts, fruit salad, cheese, ham and boiled eggs. The hot chocolate was really thick and superb! There was a selection of teas, coffee and fruit juice. Only downside was that the hot drinks weren't too hot if you were at breakfast after 0930 hrs (it ended at 1000 hrs). We ate loads for breakfast and didn't really need to eat again until dinner time!

The area itself is nice, the 'ghetto' is close by and has a lovely cathedral and synagogues. There are simply hundreds of restaurants, takeaways, little delis, cafés and shops near by.

A tip for eating at restaurants....May sure you find out if there is a cover charge and service charge to be added on to the bill at the end...the touristy trap places will do this to you!!

So this us a great little hotel in a convenient location with pleasant staff, comfortable rooms and yummy breakfast! Would definitely stay here again :-)

This hotel is very well located very close to the station and placed on a most popular street. Look like beautifull at the out view. First at the entrance there is a lady very angry and agressive. She talk with us like crying to her dog. Second it is very expensive for this standart. Third rooms are very small and very old, the bed is unconfortable the bathroom is to small, not clean enough. 4th in the breakfast there is an other lady angry agressive who is working and who is ready to behave you like a dog. Believe me i behave my dog well then they.

We stayed here 4 nights during carnaval. We liked the place. It takes a 30 minutes walk to San Marco or you can take the boat. The rooms are small but with everything you need and they are clean. Friendly staff. We booked via Ebookers flight with Brussels airlines and stay at a very reasonable price during the carnaval.
The breakfast is OK only ... the coffee is not good but on demand the waitress served us capuccino and esspresso.

Tiniest entrance, crazily big maze of a building inside!
Stayed for NYE (Which was pretty expensive due to time of year - 185 euro for the night)
Room itself was "compact" with an inbuilt shower/toilet room at the end of the bed (Not ideal really but if you prefer they do have external toilets in the building also) also probably wasn't the best colour scheme - Deep Red Stripes.... Made the room look even smaller.

Breakfast buffet was neither mine or my boyfriend's 'cup of tea', very, very basic.

Overall the bed was comfy, the water was hot, the room was clean, the staff were friendly, hotel was ON Venice.

Some reviews of the Hotel Nazionale seem to be way off and actually unfair? This is a budget hotel by Venice international standards, in a perfect location near the train and bus stations, literally on the Grand Canal and very close to the vaporetto stop Ferrovia. I. It's category, this hotel is great. It's extremely clean. Rooms are small but functional with lots of storage and decent bathrooms. We stayed in room 449 on the 4th floor. Decent continental breakfast. Can't fault the staff either, everybody was very helpful. The immediate vicinity is very good, with lots of shops, bars and restaurants, and on the scenic route to San Marco. Perfect for a short stay in central Venice, without breaking the bank.

The room is small, the bath even smaller, hot water pressure was almost zero. The only thing this place has going for it is location and the front deck. Denise at the front desk was extremely helpful. She gave us dining recommendations which were excellent and at one point took us by the hand to a restaurant she wanted us the eat at.
