“Serious case of bed bugs. Staff refused to acknowledge”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

This hotel ruined a good week of my Europe trip. After paying for two nights in the hotel I noticed a serious of bites on me, that I recognised as bed bug bites. The manager of the hotel absolutely refuses to acknowledge them as bed bugs and was rude, trying to take advantage of the fact we were two young girls. The staff had no idea about what bed bugs were and tried to prove there were no bugs by simply showing me there were not bugs crawling all over the exterior of the bed. The bed bug reaction escalated the day after and resulted in an emergency trip to the doctor as my whole body broke out in itchy welts that took days off my trip. After being made aware of my condition the hotel refused to return my emails or acknowledge the problem.

We were initially put in a room which must have been a smoking room as it absolutely stank, but to their credit they gave us a new room when we asked, although it was smaller. The rooms are nothing special, very simple which is fine but difficult to fit two large suitcases without tripping over them. The bed was extremely hard and shower so tiny you would constantly hit the screen. The young lady on reception was lovely & helpful, the older grey haired man was not helpful at all. You do have to lug your suitcases up one flight of stairs to reception but then there is a lift to your floor.

It's very close to the train station which is handy and about a 15min walk to the centre of Venice so close enough to everything.

Not far from main bus terminal, which was why I booked it.Not far to Rialto &St Marks square & other sights, rooms small but adequate, classed as a 3 star, but in the uk this hotel would be 2 at best, take some mosquito spray, maids leave the windows open and the room can attract a few, both my girlfriend and I got bit, breakfast limited but ok, but for the amount of time you spend in the room it is adequate.

Me and my friend came by bus, it was just a short walkway to the hotel which was on the main street. We slept with open windows - without any disturbing sound. A little strange coloring in the room, but who cares. The room was clean. Service was excellent and the breakfast had far more than we expected. A place I certainly can go back to.

Room Tip: * If possible, choose a room away from the street

We spent 4 nights at Nazionale in Venice. It's is well located just 5 minutes from the train station, we came by train from Florence. Room was ok but the bathroom was very small could not shower properly, at one stage we had water all over the floor as you could not move around. Breakfast was very good with the staff very friendly, also the reception staff helped and advised us on our stay re places to go and also we could get around walking or taking taxi's. Rooms were cleaned and refreshed each day.,

Room Tip: Revamp the bathrooms.

There were a lot of little inconveniences about our stay at the Nazionale, but really, it was fine and if you're not expecting too much or are used to the Italian hotels, you'll be fine.

Our room was extremely tiny - only room for one tiny bedside table, nowhere to set down our luggage and actually look through it (two people, two suitcases!). Bathroom, on the other hand, was huge! I wish some of that space had been used for the room. When we arrived, the windows had all been left open (I think a previous guest had been smoking in there, despite it being a non-smoking room - the weird puffy panelling on the walls held the smell) and the bathroom especially was full of mosquitoes, to which I'm really allergic. So that was frustrating and caused a lot of difficulty sleeping. However, the room was very quiet and the bed was ok. Wifi was pretty much non-functional, unfortunately.

Breakfast was slightly worse than in our other hotels - they're trying to provide American-style coffee, but it's seriously vile. And nobody seems to be keeping tabs on whether things are running out, especially in obvious situations like when a large tour group heads in for breakfast together. We ended up supplementing at the cafe two doors down, toward the train station - the one with the kitschy courtyard out back. They were lovely there!

Can't beat the location - lumping your bags around in Venice would be a huge chore, and paying a porter gets expensive. We were glad of the convenience in exchange for a few quibbles.

We spent 2 nights @ Nazionale in venice. Its very conveniently located . Just 5 mins of walk from the train station ( we came by train from Rome ) . Room and toilets are compact but functionally designed . The front office is very friendly . The lift is from the upper level . So if you are carrying heavy luggage , it takes some effort to carry it up . The breakfast could be little better . However , the locational advantage makes you ignore all these small issues . In any case , you dont go to Venice to spend time in the hotel room . If you are looking for a value for money option in a good location , dont miss to explore Nazionale.
