“Stayed in the apartment”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

Our family of 6 stayed in the apartment offered by Hotel Ai Reali for 2 nights. We arrived at the hotel from the cruise port via water taxi (150 euros for 11 of us and luggage) in the morning, stored our luggage, and returned later in the day to finish the check in process. The front desk staff was efficient and courteous, although not really warm. It is a bit of a journey (about 5-7 minutes from the hotel) through a maze and then up several long flights of stairs to reach the apartment itself. I was very thankful the hotel staff had moved half of our luggage to the apartment before we returned for the evening to finish our check in and then guided us to the apartment itself. It would be nice to have a map from the apartment to the hotel as we got a little lost (easy to do in Venice) upon our first attempt to return to the hotel. Breakfast is not included for hotel guests staying in the apartment. Overall, the apartment was quite lovely and had everything a family could need for an extended stay including a washer and dryer and full kitchen. It is really quite large! The master bedroom has a pretty loft with a day bed. There is an additional bedroom and then a sleeper sofa in the living area. The 3 full bathrooms are all new and very clean. The views from the rooftop balcony were pretty and it was relaxing in the evening to listen to the bells ring and hear the chatter and faint music from St. Mark's Square. The location is great and within easy walking distance to St. Mark's and Rialto Bridge. A water taxi to the airport from the hotel-booked through the hotel-was 150 euros for a party of 6.

Absolutely stunning rooms and bathroom, top class and very well situated 5 mins walk from Rialto bridge - very important when you have to cart suitcases from water taxi. But the staff, although professional, are not friendly. I had the misfortune to break my wrist on the first night, tripping over the step into the bathroom as it was exactly the same colour as the bedroom floor and had no marking on the edge as those in most of Venice's public buildings did have. When I requested medical help from the night manager, I was informed doctors did not attend the hotels and I would have to get a water taxi to hospital! Finally, after several minutes arguing with him during which time I was in great pain,, he rang and said he'd ordered a water ambulance. The following morning, someone I assumed was the manager, saw me outside with my arm in plaster, asked how I was then said glibly I would feel better the next day and much better the day after, he could not have been more insincere. Responding to my question why the step was not marked in some way as it would have been in the UK, he said he would have to ask the architect - wonderful!!

The greatest asset of any hotel is its staff, who should make guests feel welcome and esteemed. Needless-to-say I won't be returning.

Stayed herd for five nights with my wife, the hotel is in a great location and the staff very friendly. The rooms, we stayed in 115, was fabulously decorated with a double window onto the canal. Very spacious with an ultra modern TV system that has a great storage of music. The location is perfect as it is just off the Rialto area that is busy but offers a great accommodation providing a perfect nights sleep.
The one small blip for us was that we booked the transfer through the Hotel and no one came for us! When we rang them they did sort this out but no apology, shame as we paid the hotel far more than the cost of just booking a water taxi from the airport on arrival - there are loads and my advise is do that and save €110.
As with all hotels there is always one member of staff that stands out for service and help, unfortunately we never got this girls name but the tall long haired young lady from breakfast was fabulously helpful and helped make our time in the hotel special.
All in all I would imagine this is one of the better hotels in Venice, if we visit Venice again we will stay here.

Room Tip: Room 115 was fab

This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in. The rooms are beautiful, big and luxurious. It was a little difficult to find because the water taxi could not take us right in front of the entrance because of high tide. The restaurant was excellent for dinner and breakfast too.

We arrived from the cruise ship terminal by water taxi and it was worth every cent of the €90 as the canal views from there, partly along the Grand Canal and partly through the smaller canals, was fascinating and beautiful. Our welcome at the hotel, early though we were by several hours, could not have been pleasanter and more welcoming. We left our bags and wandered through the city. On our return we had been upgraded to the best suite in the wonderfully restored hotel.
That suite was huge, comfortable, well- appointed and had four windows opening on to a narrow stone balustraded "Juliet" balcony that overlooked a canal busy with mainly gondola traffic. Mesmerising and photogenic.
The bathroom was also large with shower over a very long large bath. Very good Hermés toilet amenities.
All the staff we dealt with were helpful, friendly and attentive, none more so than at breakfast which, apart from long-life orange juice, was extremely good. It was continental in style but with cold cuts, cheese and eggs and hot meats too. And wonderful coffee.
The hotel is well-placed for the Rialto and St Mark's though we got lost, as we expected and always do in this city, but that afforded the chance to see so much more of the city.
Water taxi to the airport is €120 though the water bus service to the airport is a shortish walk away near the Rialto.
We found no fault in the room or service and it was a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a canal side room and enjoy the water traffic below.

My wife and I just returned from spending a couple of weeks in Europe, with the last 4 days being in Venice. We selected Ai Reali based on excellent tripadvisor reviews which as usual were spot on. The Ai Reali is among the finest hotels at which we have ever stayed. We arrived by water taxi (100 euros) and the trip in was a blast. The staff made check in a breeze after a bumpy flight from Paris. We stayed in a junior suite overlooking the canal and it was stunning. We loved having a separate sitting room and opening the windows each morning to gaze out at the canal. We enjoyed breakfast each morning in the dining room which was a great way to start the day. The hotel is conveniently located near the Rialto bridge. The restaurant in the hotel is superb. Finally, the wait staff in the restaurant, bar and front desk are extraordinary. They went out if their way to make our stay perfect. If we are ever fortunate enough to return to Venice, I would not stay anyplace other than the Ai Reali.

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking out over the lagoon.

Our just-completed trip had multiple stops in NYC, London and northern Italy, with each stay being at either a favorite hotel of ours or a top-scorer in TripAdvisor (and/or Booking.com). Among these and almost all other hotels we have ever stayed in, Ai Reali is the best. While not a five-star ultra-luxury facility, the Ai Reali has the perfect combination of (1) high quality Venetian-style amenities (2) in a historic building (3) at a beautiful location, with (4) a flawless staff (professional, friendly and always available) and (5) a superlative restaurant. We had a regular room (i.e., not one with a view) and that was fine, as it was incredibly quiet for us light sleepers, with a truly great walk-in shower, and all we needed to do to experience the "feel" of Venezia was either to sit downstairs in the bar or dining room, watching the gondolas go by on the adjacent small canal, or to just walk outside into a nice, but slightly away from the crowds, part of San Marco. The Rialto stop is very close. Congratulations to the owner and managers for the staff and facility that they maintain so well. And despite the high price, we are rating this an excellent value for what one gets.

Room Tip: Taking the private water transfer from Marco Polo airport direct to the hotel is worth it.
