We ate at this restaurant one afternoon last summer, we stumbled across it at that perfect time in the day - we had been wandering around the Venetian alleyways all morning and were ready to eat. We sank gratefully into the chairs under a parasol and had a simple but tasty spaghetti with pesto washed down with cold beer. We really enjoyed the meal but in the following days we couldn't find it again!
Imagine our surprise this year, staying in a different hotel in the Santa Croce area we walked around the corner and gazed in surprise at the square we were standing in! We recognised the waiters and we decided to eat there that evening.
We had a lovely meal again, simple spaghetti bolognese and lasagne with a nice mixed salad. The waiter showed us a choice of wines that he recommended, he told us the prices and wasn't offended when we said that one was too expensive. The waitresses are like whirling dervishes, they run from the tables to the restaurant in double quick time!
At the end ofour meal the heavens opened, guests were quickly moved from outside to in with a lot of laughing and friendliness. We didn't need another table, we stood waiting with a complimentary limoncello whilst everyone was reseated.
Its good simple unpretentious tasty food served with a smile. And good value in Venice.
