We hadn´t booked but were welcomed and given a table for two in the entrance room. It was very quiet and pleasant. The lady owner was very kind and brought us very tasty food.We had the crab shell and salumi as starters, then gnocchi with crab (the best gnocchi I've ever eaten, quite home-made). The wine and dessert were very good too.
I think they accept dogs, but there was no problem about it.

We hadn't booked dinner for our Saturday night in Venice and found Osteria del Cason by pure chance. The staff were really friendly and the food was really good. Most of the staff also speak English. The food seems to be locally sourced so the menu does change. When we went it wasn't that busy but it didn't spoil our meal. Please try and visit this little treat of a place.

after 40 years experience in the nearby mainland restaurant; the family finally decided during 2013 to get in action also in the historical downtown. Of course, this will help lots of new tourist to get more familiar with the real local fish food, as the decision of opening this tiny and rustic place, it has been made always following the most important rules: part of the family managing the place, the historical chef on the backstage and the same "rivers" of amazing bio Prosecco. Exactly if you were enjoying the same scenario in the mainland original restaurant.
If you are really new and you wish to be educated, please just follow my instructions because i'm sure what i'm talking about: scampi in soar, baccala mantecato, granola, row tuna, row scampi are just few small examples to start with. Something you(stranger) would wrongly called "tapas"; but we (locals) we use to called "cicheti". Something to get closer with the real city tasting.
One time probably won't be enough to get familiar with all the different dishes.
Finally the location which will be loved by locals and not....out of the crowded areas, good for romance, outside, friends and family.....
So, go and get it!!!!

Just wanted to thank Riccardo for the great evening we had at al Cason! The dinner was gorgeous, we have never had such good and fresh fish. Scampi and Bacala were terrific. It was our wedding anniversary and Riccardo made it special.it is very well located, just behind the Frari Church, right on a canal. Very romantic :)

We were booked by the BnB we were staying while in Venice. No bad surprises. Excellent food and funny people. Ricardo is very nice...you feel very welcomed. We loved the Baccala' and Scampi. Very good white wine. Also a nice spot of Venice, just in front of a Canal. This is a real terrific italian/venetian restaurant. We will be back!!
