I booked the Bauer after looking at a few hotels in venice on a scouting mission while our cruise ship was in dock. I liked the front desk people immediatlly and the large lobby was impressive, the overall size of the property indicated substance. I went back to the cruise ship and after further consultation with the tripadvisor reviews i decided to go for 2 rooms at 1 night. next morning a water taxi took us directlly to hotel, if u can afford the water taxi take it if u have luggage. The water bus station is close by 2 blocks, but u have to walk around to access the hotel and with suitcases???.. We arrived early but were suprised that this was not a problem, fabio let us look at 2 one bedroom suite and a superior room for the inlaws giving us a chance to choose... ( thats class to me ) all three rooms were as described and european spacious, my wife wanted a terrace and one of the rooms had a large terrace but was directlly next to gondoliers who use the canal beside hotel to wait for clients at a loading station... Its actually great sitting at the front part of lobby drinking brown bag beer and watching the show from airconditioned comfort as their is the gondolier loading station 10 metres on the hotels left... I never received any flak from anyone for the brown bag beer despite the very overpriced beer on offer at the terrace bar at back of hotel. ( nice place as well though $$ ) During check in Fabio and i discussed the presidential suite and after crossing the table with a written offer i was asked to wait while he spoke to the boss. Ten minutes later my wife and i were in the presidential suite which was stellar and after a quick counter offer agreed to stay for 3 nights. The room beside the presidential suite is nice but not worth the extra money we were asked to pay so the inlaws could be near us... Out of respect to the hotel i wont post the rate but if you send me a private message i will respond if able. Please note it aint cheap and this is a quality hotel and not a mexican negotiation zone. the royal suite is 15K per night in euros.
The hotel is located right on grand canal and very near st marks square all the name brand stores are very close by and its a shoppers delight, i never did find my fave pub again as venice is very confusing but their are many places to grab a pint just watch out for seating charges and automatic 15% gratuity. ( hate that scam ) always on bottom of menu for the inexperienced. the hotel had cnbc and bloomberg which was great and internet was 15 or 20 euro a day i was comped internet so i forgot. As i said The hotel is located in the heart and is near water bus and water taxi station so its a great base. The air con works great and was a huge relieve. Breakfast buffet on 7th floor terrace was exceptional!! oh ya and the hotel is one of the tallest structures in venice so our suite had a very commanding view. Enjoy have fun and u wont be dissapointed. No pool.

Can it get any better in Venice?
- the rooms are spacious and elegantly appointed
- the concierge (Carlo) is extremely helpful and made it a very pleasant stay for us
- the food at the restaurant was niot so much our thing, other restaurants (such as the A Beccafico offer better vakue for money)
- the continental breakfast buffet had a good selection of cold meats and cheeses
- the location is supurb and nothing beats that breakfast on the terrace whilst watching the gondolas pass by

Definitely old-world, faded elegance-which I don't mean in a necessarily bad way. We requested a room with a view, as suggested in another review, but e800 was beyond our budget. Chiara, at the front desk, showed us 2 rooms: one with a "lateral" (little slice) view of the canal and another without a view, but a more luxurious room. We chose the latter and, with the exception of a leaky shower (which was somewhat repaired), we were not disappointed. Great staff overall. The breakfast was delicious and generous, with both Continental and American-style options, fresh fruits, salame, cheeses, juices, cakes...and Prosecco for Mimosas! I agree with an earlier reviewer that the rooftop should be open for cocktails as well as breakfast-spectacular view and ocean breezes. We did take the free water taxi to Murano and toured the Cenedese art glass factory. Be aware that there may some "arrangement" with Cenedese, because we got the big sales pitch in a very smooth way. We ended up buying glassware, to be shipped to us. Quite pricey, but this was the big splurge for our 20th anniversary trip. The hotel is definitely old and quirky, and Venice is expensive, but just have another glass of wine and enjoy "la dolce vita".

Room Tip: Ask to be shown some choices of rooms before you commit.

The Bauer hotel is about 5 minutes away from San Marco. Noise is never an issue in Venice as the whole town is pretty much deserted at night. We had a huge corner room and the bathroom was as big as the entire room. It was massive, with a tub and marble everywhere! The decor is typical elegant and ornate (not my style but pretty nonetheless). Our room didn't have much of a view, rooftop of neighboring buildings, but I didn't mind. Breakfast was typical hotel fare, with perfect cappuccino, cold cuts, breads and pastries. The service was non-intrusive and friendly.

Thhis was my 3rd time at this hotel, it continues to be my favorite in Venice. This time we had a great room with views of the rooftops and St. Mark's campanile from the bedroom and bathroom.
Having stayed there more than a couple of times (and multiple rooms with family) I can assure you that there are many different rooms, some with different charms than others. Make sure you py attention to the type of room you book and if you're not happy with the room they might have a different room in the same category that is completely different.
Service was great, from the moment our water taxi dropped us off and the bellman greeted us, until we checked out afte a couple of days of busy sightseeing. You can walk in and out either by the side street or through the sister property, the Bauer. Keep in mind that in Venice the dock is the man entrance, so don't expect much when going in and out the side door. This being said, we were happy to go in and out of the sister hotel and would drop the key off there and be grated by name! Great service from both properties.
When you are not going to and from the hotel by water, you can easily walk everywhere form the hotel, the location is perfect for me. There are also gondola rides available right by the St. Moise bridge.
I think some people might be disappointed if they expect the amenities decor you would get at A nw property, this hotel and 90% of the city are centuries old and so you must always keep that in mind, in my opinion this adds a certain atmosphere to the city and hotel.
Of course, breakfast in the upstairs terrace is great (what a view!) my only advice would be to cross cross the rooftop area with fishing wire to keep the birds out, instead of the water guns that the servers use.
I did not eat at the downstairs restaurant this time, as I and scone so Ina. Row ions visit and had not been impressed.

We were upgraded on arrival to a luxury room with a side view of the Grand Canal which was a welcome start to our honeymoon. The room and bathroom were clean and spacious. The hospitality and service from all staff encountered was probably the best we encountered in Italy. The breakfast venue on the hotel's roof is spectacular and they serve a good spread of the healthy and not so healthy. The position of the hotel is surely one of the best in Venice - being able to retreat away from the crowds was a great relief but being only 3 minutes walk from San Marco square was very convenient.

My only negative about the hotel is the amount of light bulbs that were out. Each chandelier has two to three lights out which wasn't expected from a hotel of this calibre.

This superb Venice hotel can be recommended to anyone.

We stayed here as a family July 2011.
You could not ask for a more central deluxe hotel.
The staff were great and it has the addition of having the bar and restaurant right on the canal. Definately the place to see and be seen in Florence.
Everything is in walking distance. Brilliant.
Would definately stay here again

Room Tip: Room overlooking canal.
