“Wonderful, and in a great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2008

Our room was fantastic. It overlooked three side canals, and the Maria Callas bridge, which connects to Teatro Fenice. It was also large, clean and airy. We highly recommend Al Teatro. The breakfast was fine...cheese, sliced meats, cereal, fruit juices, yogurt...and Eleanora will make you a very good cappucino upon request. You get to see her lovely children in the main room for a moment as you enter. This is charming, not awkward. The hallway to the rooms is private, and our room was very private. You have keys so you can come and go as you please. If you are a respectful guest, then Eleanora will treat you very well. The location is an easy 5 minute walk to Piazza San Marco, and 2 minutes to L'Accademe bridge. WOW.

  • Liked — Big windows looking onto side canals with gondoliers below
  • Disliked — Building hallway is dingy and steep stairs to climb

Lovely en-suited room with a great balcony over the canal very close to St Marcos Square - we were made to feel completely at home and nothing was too much for Elenor who was a terrific hostess - even though the only guests at the time Eleonora provided great continental beakfasts and was a great source of local information including brochures, etc., readily available - this is a recommended very central location (from which we walked all over Venice) and very close to Vaparetto stop - we would definintely recommend El Teatro and will definitely stay again next time we're in Venice! - Rick & Deb (Australia)

We selected Al Teatro based in large part on the Trip Advisor rating. Here's our executive summary: it's a great place, we'd go back anytime, and we recommend it to anyone who is Venice-bound.

I'll start at the beginning...I emailed Eleonora about availability, and she responded very quickly, in excellent English, offering us the Amber Room. Directions from the Venice train station, via vaporetto, were outstanding and we got there just as the sun was starting to set. The Amber Room was spacious and clean, with a very comfortable bed and a completely modern bathroom.

We had a little balcony and two floor-to-ceiling windows; outside, two floors below, gondolas passed on a canal all day. In one direction we could see the Fenice opera house, and in the other the Grand Canal. The neighborhood was very quiet, and it felt like it was a million miles from the Piazza San Marco...even though the B&B is just a couple of blocks from the heart of the action.

Breakfast was tasty and generous, and cold drinks and little snacks were always available. We found the family environment delightful - and completely unobtrusive - and it was fun to visit the goldfish and turtle each morning. Although we had some initial technical issues with connectivity, it all worked out, and there was bandwidth for all. Five stars for Al Teatro!

  • Liked — Centrally located but removed from the tourist bustle, beautiful building and amazing historical surroundings, spacious and comfortable room
  • Disliked — The accommodation was great, nothing negative to say.

Elegantly furnished and crispy clean rooms. Affordable and excellent value for money. Sumptuous breakfast and a fantastic view! Friendly and most helpful owner. Great location.

We stayed for 5 days and enjoyed the best Venice could offer.

Don't look any further - you've found the best B&B in Venice!

We had a wonderful stay at the Al Teatro. We found the location great, easy to find and the hostess Eleanora friendly, helpful and right on the money with her recommendations for restaurants. The rooms are beautiful, comfortable and the sheets felt like a million dollars. (This was our biggest problem, we didn't want to get up) We had singing gondolas under our window and great smelling soaps. The breakfast was not a simple coffee and roll, but a real breakfast with as much as you wished as refilled plates of cold cuts, fresh fruit and cereals as people came and went. It is small which we liked, and free access to internet with their computer. We liked the family atmosphere, but know not everyone does with kids around. We felt like we were living in a piece of history. We also liked being able to talk to the owner about her life and situation of people who live in Venice. The only drawback was climbing 1 flight of stairs and no elevator, but it was well worth it.

  • Liked — Friendly atmosphere
  • Disliked — stairs..

My husband & I stayed here for 3 nights and wouldn't go back. The room & bathroom were very clean & nice. The location was great!

But completely lacked any hospitality and friendliness. First of all the owners has 3 children under the age of 12. She yells at her kids and they run around being noisy. If you want somewhere quiet this isn't it.

I'm Eleonora the owner and the mother of three beautiful small children. they are all under 12 years. It's true!
Maybe I yelled at my children but these things happen sometime in a family. If we gave some troubles, I'm sorry but I would like to suggest to book a hotel next time, especially if you don't like the children and you think they are noisy !!
When the people makes a reservation at " AL TEATRO B&B " knows that I have three children and they decide to share with us thier stay in Venice.
Everywhere is written I live here with my family !!!

We were in Venice on 24 March 2008 with our two children, 12 and 15. Finding accommodation for a family in Venice can be expensive, but Al Teatro was excellent value for money. We paid 200 EUR for a very clean, spacious family room with three windows overlooking a canal. Although very central (and easy to find), the B&B is in a very quiet street. The breakfast served in Eleonora's dining room was much more than what we expected - lovely cuppucinos, a selection of pastries, yogurts and cereals. We had a lovely stay and would recommend it without hesitation.
