The hotel is still the same, however, with the new owners, there is no staff at this location. The staff is a short walk from this hotel. The hotel is empty of staff during all hours. The breakfast has been moved to the main hotel as well. The breakfast room is shared between the owners 3 hotels. It can get a little crowded and you end up stuck at a little table that is meant for 2 to enjoy tea. (Very small and they put 3 people at these tables...the table runs out of room quickly)
La Locandiera is clean and a great location. Was just a little disappointed that with the new owners doing some consolidating, La Locandiera lost some of it's charm. Would probably try some place else on my next visit to Venice.

Stayed here for 3 nights from 7Jul to 10Jul 2013. The location was EXCELLENT and the hotel was very comfortable. Continental breakfast offered wide selection. Traveled to Venice by car, parked long-term at Marco Polo Airport for 7 Euro/night, took alilaguna ferry from Airport to San Marco (1.25 hr) for 8 Euro R/T, then 10 minute walk to hotel. Their walking directions were excellent and easy, but you have to look CLOSELY for the first street (after leaving the ferry) from the Lagoon. We walked by the street (alley) twice, concluding that their directions and map were wrong, before discovering the alley. Best thing we did was limit our luggage to bare minimum (one carry-on bag each). Left the rest (clothes only) in the trunk of our vehicle at airport. The worst thing imaginable is schlepping excess luggage around Venice and its endless bridges on a hot humid day!!!

We stayed here in July 2013. When I booked it I couldn't believe a good hotel right by San Marco is so cheap compared to other places I looked at. We actually like the location of this place more than the main hotel Casa Verardo as it's closer to San Marco and we didn't have to cross the narrow quiet street with the bridge to get to it. The area felt safe as well, even at night. The rooms are quite large with a big bathroom with a bathtub, definitely the largest room during our trip to Italy. The hotel and rooms are nicely renovated, modern, and clean.

The staff was excellent, spoke English well, and the breakfast was great too. The elevator is a tight squeeze for 2 with carryon luggages. The WiFi is 10 euros for our entire 2 night stay and was pretty fast.

Tip for Venice: Get the gelato at Gelateria Suso near the Rialto Bridge, not the gelato places by San Marco. We also got the SIM card for our unlocked quad-band phone from the TIM store straight down ~2 blocks after crossing the Rialto bridge. Good value and service from TIM throughout our trip. Handy for text message tickets from Trenitalia for our train rides. Also, we felt it was worth the extra bucks to do the gondola ride at night. Very quiet and more romantic.

Room Tip: Stayed on the second floor. Nice and quiet.

I've been to Venice before and stayed farther from the very centre (reads as sight no. 1, the Piazza San Marco). As Venice means walking or boating, you'd like to see more and walk less, hence our choice of address this time. We got a room in the annex, or rather, La Locandiera is the annex of the main hotel, Casa Verardo. Style, interior, comfort all the same. Only we had to walk about 30 paces to the breakfast room. You could take breakfast in- or out-of-doors. Next visit to Venice we'll choose the same hotel and location. :) Wifi is extra, only; who goes to Venice to stay indoors fiddling with gadgets?

Room Tip: We stayed in room 14 which has a double and a single bed. Spacious and with a big bathroom.

We stayed for two night in June, and were pleasantly surprised by this gem of a hotel.
The location is perfect, very romantic on a little square and canal, close to San Marco, but also very quiet.

The staff was helpful, though you have to walk about 150m to the Hotel Casa Verardo for assistance, and the excellent breakfast (for Italian standards).

Definitely recommend!

We stayed for one night in May and were disappointed to find the wifi comes at an additional fee of 10 euros for 10 hours. It is a bit mis-leading to list wifi as available in the rooms and not disclose it is for an additional fee. This hotel is clearly the cheaper step sister of the Hotel Casa Verado where reception & the breakfast are located. The towels & bed linens seem to be the worn out ones from next door. The bed was comfortable enough but the bathroom had a black mildew problem in the shower. The breakfast is also a bit chintzy - they could do better.

We booked for a 5 night stay in March 2013. Upon arrival in Marco Polo, I would recommend purchasing a return water bus ticket for 27 euro's per person at the machines near baggage collection. It's very straightforward and easy to get to Venice island and takes about 50 minutes depending on where you stay,

Hotel is very easy to find from St Marks square and is a 5 minute walk. You check in at the hotel which was very efficient and staff are friendly.

The room ( 14 ) was an excellent size with loads of wardrobe space, a king size bed, a sofa bed and small tv. Bathroom was a good size and shower was excellent. Towels are provided and were changed daily.

Breakfast is served over on the 1st floor of the main hotel ( literally around the corner ) and was standard continental (cereals, fruit juice, ham and cheese, breads, croissants and yoghurts ).

The hotel offers a free water taxi out to Murano to watch glass being blown - not a bad morning out but bear in mind you will pay for a return water bus which takes over an hour to return and is 7 euros per person.

The biggest and best tip is take wellies and if you hear the flood alarms go off in the evenings, you have approx 4 hours before the streets literally flood! My wife and I ignored this on one evening and had to wade to get back ( although was a great and funny talking point! )

Watch out for tourist menu's in restaraunts and do your homework before you go about where to eat. Take recommendations on this as we ghot stung on a number of occassions ( 200 euros for a meal for 2 which was average ) Bear in mind 75% of all visitors coming to Venice don't stay the night and so the restaraunts want to get you in, charge you the earth and serve you pub food at best. They are not interested in repeat business. I would recommend Pano Vino e San Daniele in Dorsoduro - excellent food and great service.

Gondola's are a must and are priced at 80 euros for 40 minutes. MAKE sure you get one from a main Gondola stand as we overheard someone being charged 110 euros from one of the smaller ones. we used the Gondola stand outside Hotel Danielle, right opposite the palace.

Whilst we stayed for 5 nights, you could do Venice easily in 3 nights. There isn't much to do on an evening unless you are eating.

The History of Venice show was great and is performed in English. Wouldn't recommend taking the Italian Dining option with it as it was again, at best, pub food. Tickets were 49 euro's per person including food or 39 euro's without.

Bear in mind to keep back euro's for checkout. The Tourist Tax is payable upon departure in cash only. We payed 25 euros in total for the both us for the 5 nights but this varies by hotel classification.

Would definately recommend this hotel for a great location, no frills, big, clean rooms and well serviced.
