“ok but could be better”
Reviewed 20 January 2014

My husband and I stayed at Al Gazzettino between Christmas and New Years. The reviews we had read in Tripadvisor were all quite good, but they did not seem to reflect our particular experience. Overall, the staff of the hotel is super helpful and kind so this is definitely true and nice from this hotel. However, after walking around Venice for five days and seeing many other hotels, it seems to us that this one is not really a 4 star hotel as it claims to be. There is no elevator, so we had to climb 4 floors to our room with bags which was not ideal after a 7 hour trip. Our room was at the very top, quite small and with windows that overlooked an internal patio of what seemed a home. The breakfast was just OK. We consider that the hotel is ok, but too expensive for what it is. When you reserve, make sure that you ask for a room on the first or second floors. Also, be sure to ask the total price during reservation because we were not told about an extra city tax that was added to our final bill per day per person which made the room importantly more expensive than what we originally considered.

Room Tip: first or second floor as there is no elevator

Location of the hotel was excellent beinghalf way between the Marco Square canal stop and Railto stop. We stayed in room 215 where the room was spacious, bathroom recently and modernly remodelled and we loved watching the Gondoliers and tourists from the balcony over the canal. Great people watching as we shared the complementry bottle of prosecco upon arrival :-)

The included breakfast was good and staff helpful. They were very accomodating and made sure we were helped navigate the labyrinth of Venician streets. The night clerk even asked his father (who had stopped by for a chat) to walk us to the restuarant

Room Tip: We loved room 215!

The hotel was in an excellent location, close to St. Marc's square. The room was very large and clean and the staff was friendly. The view outside the room was beautiful and we'd definitely stay here again.

We loved our room facing the small canal although is was quite noisy early in the morning with many heavy barges passing in a nearby canal however this is a thoroughfare for gondolas and makes for great pictures. The accomodations were wonderful with rich furnishing and a very large bathroom which was luxurious for Italian hotel standards. Staff was helpful and friendly when we required their assistance. Hotel is situated between Rialto bridge and St. Marks square and therefore offers easy access to all necessary sites.
Restaurants in the St.Marks area are very expensive even compared to Rome or Florence therefore would recommend heading across the Rialto bridge and seek a restaurant away from the Grand canal.

Room Tip: A room with a view of the canal is desirable but obviously more expensive

The Hotel Al Gazzettino, is a great location close to St Marcs Square, and not far from the Rialto stop. Keep in mind that there are only 10 rooms, the rooms look just like the photos shown on line, neat and clean. The staff was amazing and very helpful, and when we got lost, they walked us to the restaurant we were trying to find.

The breakfast buffet was good, and a great start for a day of site seeing. The bed was a little firmer than I prefer, I recommend this Hotel

Room Tip: We were on the first floor with a canal view, just open the window and lean out to see the canal and...

Loved the Hotel Al Gazzettino, good location, great staff. Stayed 6 nights in room 216 with a cute canal view. It had a small balcony to step out onto. It was lovely on the balcony in early morning when the pigeons were flying all around. The hotel was quiet and no noticeable noise from the small canal. Breakfast had a nice assortment of cereals, scrambled eggs, sausage, yogurt, meats, warm fresh rolls and delicious fresh pastry, coffee and tea. The only thing I would like is if the shower had a hand rail to hang onto for us older folks in case it was slippery soaping up.

Room Tip: room 216 with the balcony

This was the most beautiful hotel we've ever stayed at!
The service was fantastic.
Talk about courteous and accommodating! The front desk clerks were all extremely helpful and polite. Hospitality, friendliness, elegance, generosity of this hotel has so far been only!!!
The rooms are spacious and well appointed, clean and very comfortable with an Amazing Canal View from our window. The bathroom was very clean and modern.
They provide a complimentary breakfast that is just to die for!!
Also, the location is great because it's less than a five minute walk from the Rialto Bridge and 5 min walk from the St. Mark Square!!
We would definitely stay here again and recommend it highly!
