Great location. Friendly staff. Beautiful decore. Will be remembered as our first accommodation experience in Europe. Well placed in Venice to get to all the interesting sites. Great shopping very close to the hotel. When we go back to Venice, it will be the only place we will stay.

Room Tip: No elevator

Can't fault the Hotel Al Gazzettino on location: about 5 minutes walk from St Marks Square in one direction and 5 minutes to the Rialto Bridge in the other. Vaporretto stops at both (we'd recommend the hop-on-hop-off tickets for ease of transport which also take you out to Murano/Burano).

Our room on the first floor was nice. You had to pretty much hang out of the window to get the canal view and I wouldn't pay extra for that again. Breakfast was good: good range of choices.

The service was a big let down for us. In particular, we arrived an hour after advertised check in to be told that it had been really busy and own room wasn't ready. We explained that we'd being carrying cases across Venice and were exhausted but were told that we'd just have to go for a walk for another hour: very irriatating especially as the hotel is attached to a restaurant so they could easily have offered us a seat and a drink to make up for the inconvenience. Also, there was no dustbin in the room! To make matters worse, they didn't clear any rubbish for a couple of days meaning we had piles of juice bottles and food packaging on the desk: not great!

I probably won't return here, despite the location, because of the quality of the service. Based on our wandering, I'd much rather stay in the Dorsoduro.

Room Tip: Don't pay extra for a canal view: just walk out the door!

We have visited Venice a few times and always choose different hotels. This hotel was by far the best location that we have had, it is just a short walk to St Marks Square and an even shorter walk to the Rialto bridge. Our room was lovely, we were on the first floor and had a lovely view of the canal outside, with gondolas just underneath our window. The room had was air conditioned and was very Venetian with a modern twist, especially the bathroom. On the first morning we woke up early and were the first to breakfast - the selection was amazing, meats, breads, cheeses, toast, eggs, cereals, fruit, different types of juices, teas, coffee's and even biscuits and cakes. However, on the second morning we had a lie in and arrived half way through the breakfast window to find that the selection was greatly depleted - lesson learnt - wake up early for breakfast, first come first served! The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and we were able to leave our bag before check in and after check out to make it easier for us to travel venice in the lovely weather. We would definitely stay here again :-).

From the outside you would never suspect to find such nice rooms!
The decor is absolutely beautiful, and for a moment you can feel inside a venetian mansion. My family of 4 fit perfectly well inside this comfortable, clean and spacious room, having seperate beds for my kids to sleep on, wich was really nice. The bathroom is completely modern and spacious, something really surprising, and I really enjoyed the mix of venetian style with modern confort. The location is wonderful, just a short walk from St. Mark's square, and the canals near the hotel are the prettiest; we had gondolas just steps from the front door and the prettiest bridges. The staff was really nice and helpful. They could work a little bit more on the breakfast ; )
I was very glad we chose Al Gazzettino for our two night stay in Venice and would return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony facing the canals

Hotel Al Gazzatino was a great place to stay in Venice. The location is ideal as it is just a short walk to both the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's Square. It makes it easy to get to all the main sights but also at such a central place, it allows you to walk to and explore areas off the beaten path as well. The staff at the desk were all kind and our room was lovely - larger than I expected and very clean with a window that overlooked a canal with gondolas. The air conditioning worked very well (we were there in summer) and the windows were thick so there was not a lot of noise from the canal. We also enjoyed the decor of the room as it is has a very "Venetian" decadent style. As with all hotels in Venice it was pricey but in terms of value for the money at comparable places, I was happy with our choice.

My family of four began our two-week Mediterranean cruise aboard the NCL Spirit by checking into the Hotel Al Gazzettiono for one night prior to embarking on our ship at the port of Venice. What a wonderful choice! Although we paid the most thrifty price available online (quite reasonable!), our room was spacious, with a thoroughly modern bathroom, a comfortable queen sized bed, and a balcony above a canal where gondolas were parked every time I walked out and looked down. We brought way too much luggage for our trip, and the hotel does not have an elevator, but after we checked our seven suitcases and four carry-ons several hours before check-in time, the lovely young woman at the reception desk carried them all up to the second floor herself while we had lunch and walked about! Her English was quite good, and she was extremely helpful providing directions to the major sites of Venice and arranging our transport to the port. My wife and daughter are both afraid of bedbugs, and both did a careful search of both our rooms and beds before declaring them safe. Because of prices and room sizes, I was advised by a well-traveled friend to avoid overnight accommodations in Venice proper, but I am so glad we instead booked the lovely Gazzettion Hotel, even for one night. Within easy walking distance Musica A Palazzo, the number one musical attraction of Venice, and the only time in my life I truly fell in love with opera. Five stars from this reviewer!

Room Tip: Even the cheapest room was great for me! Ask for a balcony above the canal.

The location for this hotel is just brilliant. 250m walk to Rialto bridge, 300m walk to St Marco's Square. I haven't come across many hotels in Venice with better locations to both attractions. Thanks to my offline nokia maps on my Lumia, we were able to find the hotel without any problems (with Venice - nothing is ever easy to find so this was a boon), but once you walk around a bit you understand the location well enough. The rooms were very clean and nice looking, the bathroom was surprisingly spacious and nice - no complaints about the room itself (do note as with most Venice hotels - no lift). Plus free wifi is always a boon.

It's unfortunate that we were only in Venice for 1 night, but we did have a cruise to catch so we wouldn't spare more - but I really do love Venice. The receptionist (Anita I believe her name was) was extremely friendly and helpful, definitely a good employee who speaks very decent English and helped us get around a little.

Just note that this hotel doesn't have adapters so bring your own if your plugs won't fit the Italian plugs. My only complaint was that the hotel was a little pricey ($300 for the night) and the breakfast was rather lackluster in options. Work on those two and this could be a very nice properly.

Room Tip: Try to ask for a room no higher than Level 2 - there is no lift/elevator and big bags are cumbersome...
