Walking around Venice we found this lovely church. It is beautifully decorated inside with paintings from Franco, Zuccari, Fontebasso, Maggiotto, Lombardo, Tintoretto and others.
I have only found later it is one of two Franciscan churches in Venice, the other one being Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. A very pretty church.

The church of San Francesco della Vigna, which lies completely off the beaten track in the Castello district of the city, is worth seeking out, if only to see the beautiful altarpiece by Fra Antonio da Negroponte. The painting depicts the Virgin and Child Enthroned and is tucked away in the right transept. Make sure you are carrying some small change to feed the light meter.

San Francesco della Vigna is a ,ysterious and comforting place. I spent several hours on numerous occasions in the monumental building. I satbehind the the altar in the dark choir and prayed for over an hour. The Christmas creche is in the center replete with animals. I spoke to Frate Adriani who is gentle and kind, he took my husband and me to see the vinyard which produces strawberry flavoured grapes. there is also a beautiful painting of the madonna and child by Bellini. I think I have already wriiten a review but it is a place thathants and gives me comfort. Go.
