If you cross the Rialto Bridge from San Marco and carry on into San Polo and San Croce, hang a right and within moments you'll be in a market with open stalls and a covered fish market. These are always good to experience but the notable difference here is the location: right alongside the Grand Canal with all the colour and vibrant movement you'd expect. At the end of the day this is 'just' a market, but being provisioned from the canal is the telling difference. Worth a diversion then rather than a dedicated journey. (Guide books say it closes down as lunchtime finishes so a morning visit would be best)
