“A Hidden Gem”
Reviewed 4 August 2010

We stumbled across Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo three years ago surfing the Internet looking for a nice place to stay at a reasonable cost in a city we had never been too. It was our last stop before heading home from vacation. We took a chance, made a reservation and are we glad we did. So much so, that we booked the same hotel three years later (summer 2010). Nothing had changed: the most accommodating staff, very clean well appointed, sizeable rooms, in a great location. The hotel is close enough to all the sites but far enough off the beaten track to enjoy Venice’s local restaurants. Take the time to find this hidden jewel; a five star hotel at an affordable cost. Walter and Sandro define “pride of ownership.”

We stayed here for 3 nights in a superior double (room 6) the location was perfect we arrived by water taxi altough expensive it was worth it these can be bought and paid for on arrival at the airport and can be paid for by credit card which is handy since the fare is 100 euros. Transfering from the airport is easy by public transport using bus number 5 then water bus no 1 to San Stae which is only 3 stops away. Inclusive travel tickets covering the bus and boat services for the duration of your stay can be bought from the information desk and can be paid for by credit card. There are plenty of good cafes and restaurants offering good food and drink at reasonable prices follow Walters recomendations and explore the San Croce area the squares and alleys are worth exploring on foot. You will not miss the traffic-enjoy.

Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo was our 5th stop on our 4 week tour of Italy and was a great location for our 2 night stay. The hotel staff was very helpul and were courteous enough to inform guests of travel disruptions and how to make adjustments for travel needs. They made excellent restaurant and activity recommendations as well. The hotel itself has been wonderfully restored and they have paid close attention to detail. The breakfasts were perhaps the best we experienced during our 4 weeks. The hotel is conveniently located and it is fairly easy to get around from this location. We highly recommend a stay at this hotel during your time in Venice.

On a recent trip to Italy with Friends we stayed at the Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo in Venice. We would highly recommend this hotel. The hotel has been recently renovated. It had a lovely patio area where breakfast was served. Service was very good. We mentioned prior to our arrival via email that one of our friends was glutin intolerant and without our asking each morning, the service staff knew to bring out with her coffee, the glutin free breakfast items that she could eat . We also felt that it was an exceptional value. We would stay at this hotel again the next time we travel to Venice.

we had a great time staying at this hotel with our twin daughters. it is conveniently located for the water bus and it was a great base. we discovered that you could avoid the queues at the basilica by printing off a 1 euro ticket from their website. walter was very charmimg and took a lot of time to help us print off the vouchers which saved us a lot of time and for which we were most appreciative. we would definitely stay here again.

We spent seven days here and all the great reviews about this hotel are spot on. Walter, Sandro, and the entire hotel staff provide outstanding customer service and will go out of their way to make your stay quite enjoyable.

The hotel itself is a gem. Old Venice charm and in a great location right off the San Stae vaporetto stop. The hotel is about 50 yards straight up from the stop, hang a left down the first tight little alley you see (there is a small sign that points the way). No dragging bags all over the Venice bridges. The hotel is in a residential area away from all the noise and tourists of the San Marco area but still only a short walk away. The Rialto Bridge is about a 10 minute walk and San Marco Square is about another 10 minutes from there. We stayed in Room #5 with the balcony overlooking the small canal outside the main entrance. The balcony was especially nice for enjoying the cool evenings with some wine. The room was always kept immaculate by the staff and the size was more than adequate. There was a computer with internet access right outside our door on the 2nd floor for guests to use. The front desk will provide you with a logon and password at check-in.

We always looked forward to the morning continental breakfast in the courtyard. The lovely ladies who make the breakfast make sure everything is set up and make the most delicious jam-filled croissants. There is plenty of juices, fruit, cereal, rolls, and made to order coffee, cappuccinos, espressos, tea or hot chocolate. The breakfast will keep you full for quite awhile why you explore all the sites.

There is so much to see and do in Venice, just get a map (one is provided at the front desk) and go out exploring. There are formalized tours that will take you to Murano and Burano but it was just as easy getting there on your own. Walter and Sandro will be happy to tell you which vaporettos to get on. The Venice Jazz Festival was going on while we were there so we spent an enjoyable evening at the Nora Jones concert in the Piazza San Marco.

Here are a few my tips: Get the Venice Travel Card at the airport (or train station) for however long you're going to stay. It is the best bargain going as you will use the vaporetto quite a bit to get around the canal. Check out the Bacarro Jazz Restaurant & Bar for happy hour 2 for 1 drinks (4-7 PM), they make excellent bellinis and have pretty good pizza too. Stay away from Harry's Bar, snooty servers and they have a dress code (no shorts). Two of our favorite restaurants were the La Zucca and Osteria Antico Giardinetto, just minutes from the hotel. Check out the Hard Rock Cafe if you want some good old American food. The servers we had were fun (Bea and Mattia) Bring those inexpensive clear rain ponchos in case you get caught in a down pour. Umbrellas are dangerous in crowded areas as we saw several people get hit in the face due to inconsiderate people not caring who they ran into. Get to the San Marco Basilica early because the lines get long quickly with the cruise ship day-trippers. Get lost, that's half the fun of exploring this majestic city.

Without question we will stay at the Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo on our next trip to Venice!

I stayed here for one night. I originally booked a single room in the main hotel, but then got an e-mail from Walter (one of the owners) informing me that there was an error and there were no rooms available for that night in the main hotel. Instead, he put me in the annex and upgraded me to a superior room (for no additional charge).

What can I say? The hotel room was spotless, modern, and comfortable. Walter is the friendliest, most helpful hotel manager I have ever come across. The breakfast outdoors in the courtyard is very nice (yummy jelly-filled croissants). When it came time to check out, Walter actually charged me LESS than I was originally quoted, since I was only one person in a double room. Where do you ever find that kind of kindness in the hotel business?
