My wife and I stayed in Venice for two nights during a 12-day excursion throughout France and Italy. This hotel was probably my favorite of all the hotels. The service was excellent, the hotel was quiet, and the breakfast was top notch.

We did not want to spend huge amounts of money, but we wanted the quality of a 5 star hotel. We arrived in Venice after an incredible 12 day cruise. We were tired and hot. Ca'dei Dogi is one block from St. Mark's Square and one block from the water taxi. We had to wait for the rooms to be cleaned. The "lobby" of Ca'dei Dogi is tiny and cramped. Once the departing guests left (also to go on a cruise), we were able to sit in the air conditioned lobby which had free internet! When our rooms were ready at 3pm we were shocked! They are gorgeous! There is one room one each floor (accessible by stairs). Each room had its own flavor with a beautiful view. There is a rooftop veranda too. he air conditioning was wonderful!! The rooms are quiet, pristine with very comfortable beds. The staff was lovely, attentive, and very accommodating. The breakfast was in a small, charming garden courtyard. It was a wonderful end to an incredible vacation.

We stayed at the Ca' dei Dogi four nights in March 2010. The experience was Excellent (capital E). All the other reviews are not exaggerating. The location is superb, a mere 2-3 minutes (if that) to Piazza San Marco, in fact our window looked to the back of the Palazzo Ducale. Plus, the stops of all vaporettos were even closer. We had the "jacuzzi" room. It was smallish (apparently like all in Venice) but very nice, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very nice, large and apparently quite new (and with the Jacuzzi). Our room had a little balcony. The roof terrace looked to the Palazzo Ducale backside.
The people (Susanna and her husband) were very kind and extremely helpful. She told us about where to find good (and genuine) Murano glass, about the vaporettos, how to bargain with gondoliers, etc.
The breakfast was really nice: cappuccino (of course), omelet made to order with ham and cheese, croissants, yogurt, fruit salad, bread etc. There is free internet in a laptop at reception.
We thoroughly recommend the hotel.

BTW, if you search for it in Google maps, with the "official" address "Corte Santa Scolastica, Castello, Venice", is not the first result you get, but the second ("Ca' Dei Dogi S.A.S. Di Dardano Maria & C."). Also, if you search for the street leading to the hotel, either "calle degli albanesi" or "calle dei albanesi", google takes you to the wrong street, apparently there is more than one "dei albanesi" in Venice. However, if you zoom into the hotel, you will see the street name correctly.

Stayed here for 3 nights - one of 8 hotels we stayed during our Italian trip (mix of 3-5 stars). Fabulous boutique hotel, value, location and service. 5 star location, 4 star facilities, 3 star prices. Believe the other reviews...will definitely stay again if we ever make it back to Venice. DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED.

Pros
- We were very lucky to get upgraded to the apartment, but from what we saw, all the rooms would be furnished the same. Modern furnishings and very clean. Owner Stefano has a Japanese wife and that standard of Japanese cleanliness shows through! Definitely more like 4 star than 3 star. If you are luck enough to have the apartment, it is very spacious and even has a gorgeous terrace looking out to the palace
- LOCATION! Hidden just round the corner from St Marks square, close to so many restaurants etc. I would have expected to pay so much more to have such a central location. And it's not that hard to find - down a small quiet alley...just that the street sign you turn down to get to the hotel may not be obvious walking from the vaporetto stop (the street sign is visible if you walk in the other direction ie from St Marks square)
- Service - Susanna at the front desk was very helpful...probably the best service we had in all of Italy. The owner Stefano was lovely too and dropped by at our dinner at the restaurant to offer free aperitif and post-dinner drinks! The restaurant staff were all very nice too. All very personalised too seeing there are only 6 rooms I think?
- Value - really just astounding value....i have paid a lot more before for a lot less...and seen many 4 and even 5 star places that are worse. Free internet as well downstairs
- Breakfast was great - continental + omelette cooked to order

Cons
- The bed could have been a bit more comfortable

Other Tips
- The hotel restaurant is actually pretty good and great value. But generally, Venice food is more expensive.

As other reviewers have said, a spot just around the corner from St Marco's square, quite close to the vaporetto stop etc is a brilliant way to be placed in Venice. We too enjoyed the computer provided for guests' use and the suggestions about restaurants and other things to do. They were particularly concerned for us when we decided to go to one of the more upmarket restauarants for one meal. They gave us some suggestions as to what to look out for to stop getting a surprise on the bill.

The rooms were on the small side, although comfortable and with it raining in Venice while we were there, it did mean that we didnt want to spend too much time in them. But again, that is Venice by and large, and who goes to Venice to stay in their room? As we said, the rooms were comfortable and we would be very happy to return again when we visit Venice next!!
