“Quiet beauty with comfortable accomodations”
Reviewed 2 June 2013

My wife and I came off a 12 day cruise on the Norwegian Cruise Ship, The Spirit. We wanted to stay an extra night in Venice. We looked for a convenient and reliable place for an overnight stay. We found this retreat house to be spiritually refreshing with comfortable beds & a delicious breakfast buffet. The staff was fluent in English and very helpful in finding a great restaurant, transportation to the airport, and directions to Venice's top attractions. We explored the grounds and the church attached to the retreat house. Don Orione was a gracious and loving priest. The whole retreat house breathes his caring legacy.

Wonderful lodging! Quiet, simple, spacious, pristine, peaceful, comfortable, convenient, well maintained, well located, breakfast included, responsive and gracious staff fluent in English. Digital control with a responsive system for heat/a.c. Free wireless web connection. The building fronts on the Zattare vaparetto stop and the door to the lodging is on the side street. The Accademia vaparetto stop on the Grand Canal is a three minute walk to the other side of Dorsoduro. Good web booking system. I would stay here again in a minute!

No TV, pool, or fitness center.

Room Tip: I didn't see any bad rooms.

Given that finding reliable accommodation in Venice is not always easy, this is a clean and reliable option in a convenient part of the city. Away from the tourist hordes of San Marco, yet still close to many of the cities attractions, its location is Don Orione's best feature. The rooms are fairly spartan but spotlessly clean (no TVs or home comforts). Breakfast was reasonable and the outside areas are pleasant. The free wireless access was appreciated but having to log on and off every time became tiresome after 3 or 4 days. I was lucky enough to pay a slightly reduced rate as part of a group using the conference facilities, but felt that the rates were a little on the high side given that it was out of season.

It's a religious guest house.
No television.
No safe.
No fridge.
There wasn't even a soap tray in the shower.
The only decoration was a crucifix.

There is no pool, no bar, no restaurant etc.
It took us 2 hours to find the place, as it's nothing like as grand as suggested by their web site.
I paid 140 euros per night. I would say it's worth 40 euros.

In many ways this hotel seems to be a hostel for the non-backpackers. Furnishings were sparse but adequate. Clean, spacious and the bathroom in the room was large with a tiny shower. Noise level was good and the staff was very accomodating. Breakfast was provided and was good.

Best part of the hotel was its location near the Zattare water bus stop making an easy transfer from the airport. It is only a few blocks from the Accademia Bridge and Art Gallery and was perhaps a 15 minute walk to St. Mark's Square - it was hard to estimate because we had a high tide during our stay which flooded the streets and shops.

It's hard to describe anything as a real value in Venice, but compared to other hotels, the rates were reasonable and the location ideal.

Our family found this hotel to be extremely clean, quiet, and reasonably priced. Our room was simple but had everything we needed, including a spotless and well-appointed bathroom. Our room overlooked the courtyard, so it was away from any street noise. We enjoyed the church bells in the morning at a not unreasonable hour. The breakfast pastries were delicious, and they offered a decent variety of other items. We would definitely stay here again.

My husband and kids traveled to Venice. This location provided large, clean, cool, and comfortable rooms. The breakfast was good and we enjoyed the location. The staff was very accommodating and kind. For a Venice hotel it seemed very roomy. Plus it is incredibly quiet and peaceful!
