5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2013

We have just spent seven nights here . Five star service and five star comfort. There is no way in which the total experience could be improved. We travel a lot and have never received better care and attention. We look forward very much to our next visit.

We stayed at the Bauer Casanova Easter holidays 2013. The annex was very quiet and room very comfortable but no view. Housekeeping was immaculate with evening turn down. Breakfast taken at the Bauer next door was of good quality and choice. Hotel easy to find taking no.5 bus from the airport then transfer to no.1 water bus at Ple. Roma to St. Marco Vallaresso. It's in a great location with St Marks square only 3 minutes walk away. Bar and restaurant prices were high even for Venice but there is a wide choice of restaurants close by. We would definitely stay again.

These rooms are across a narrow alleyway to the side of the main hotel. We had a room at the top of the block, with skylights for light and slanted ceilings. A large room, nicely air-conditioned, very well furnished, and with a splendid marble bathroom. Great 5-star levels of service, with evening turn-down services as necessary. The antique furnishings are a delight, and make a very romantic venue.

Breakfast was on the terrace of the main Bauer hotel, and that was truly splendid. Looks out across the Grand Canal, right under the morning sun, with as much prosecco as you can drink. Lovely.

Took their free boat/ferry across to La Giudecca one evening, which was nice and romantic, a good free perk. Went to visit the gardens of their other Bauer hotel/restaurant, which were pleasant, and a nice rest from the heat and bustle of Venice.

On checkout, we were double-charged for drinks we had ordered on the terrace one evening, which was a shame, but the receptionist soon corrected the error, although there appeared to be some mistrust when I pointed it out and certainly no apology. Apart from that, an impeccable stay.

We were specifically looking for an authentic hotel in the center of Venice. We were not interested in any modern interpretation of great old houses. We were not looking for clear plastic chairs in our room. Bauer Casa Nova delivered. We had a suite of outsized proportions with a huge living room, gorgeous build in cabinets, ceilings with beams, Carrera marble bathroom, high end faucets, etc. I'm in construction business so I can see the high quality products. Furniture was antique, may not be several centuries old, but had a real nice old feel to it. If you are looking for glossy one you'd better book Hilton. We also somewhat enjoyed that Casa Nova has a separate entrance from the main hotel and had that real intimate feel to it. It's like you are being transported one century back with all the modern amenitites. We had a free breakfast on veranda overlooking grand canal at the main hotel. Spectacular. Food was very good too. Location was great too, right in the center of Venice. I forgot to mention, get a water taxi from the airport - it will make the whole experience magical when you arrive to the Bauer main entrance sarrounded by gondolas. Then on our way to a cruise ship a few days later we got water taxi again and asked for a ride down the Grand canal. Consierge got us some really nice looking boat (they new the guy and his boat) (mahogany or some other wood) which made the slow trip down the canal so pleasurable with lots of photo ops. In summary: location is GREAT, accomadations are GREAT (we like old stuff), service EXCELLENT, the whole experience MAGNIFICO.

My partner and I had originally booked a room in Venice at a slightly cheaper hotel in a more remote location, but we were offered an upgrade to a room at the Bauer Casanova and we couldn't have been happier with our stay. When we first arrived, we were offered a further upgrade to a suite in the Casanova as we were staying for just over a week. The suite was beautiful, decorated in traditional Venetian style, and we found that we appreciated the quiet atmosphere that came from being in an annex of the main hotel.

The amenities of the main hotel were also fantastic. I really enjoyed starting my day with a succession of creamy cappuchinos on the terrace and thought that the breakfast selection was good, although it could have included a tad bit more variation day to day.

Of course, the location of this hotel is one of its crowning glories, as it is very easy to get to (even with a large amount of luggage) and is central to many of Venice's most popular attractions. That said, the restaurants surrounding this area tend to be the most expensive for the quality of the food that you get, and we found that we tended to search further afield for more affordable eateries.

A further note on service at the Bauer Casanova: we did find a couple of very small issues with our room on arrival (couldn't get the TV to work, for instance). On reporting this to the hotel staff, we were immediately offered a different room, if we wished. We decided to stay in our room and found when returning later that day that the issues had been resolved and a complementary bottle of prosecco had been left for us as an apology. We felt that the hotel did everything possible to make our stay special and it really made our holiday!

We spent a weekend in Venice before our cruise. We found this hotel by chance on Hotelscombined at a great rate. The rate was for the Casa Nova which belongs to the Bauer and is next door. You register in the Bauer and use all of the Bauer facilities so it was an opportunity to enjoy a 5* hotel. The hotel is a five minute stroll to St. Marks square and next to all of the more expensive shops and restaurants. The water ferry is also a five minute walk (Ferry Number 1 is best) and the hotel is on the canal so a private water taxi can take you to the door. The water ferry is slow but much less expensive.
The bedroom was very spacious and the bathroom had a bath and a very large separate shower. The rooms are a little dark but the size and location far outweighed this negative. Breakfast was taken in the Bauer. We were in Venice the weekend of the major flooding and the water was at mid thigh level outside the hotel. Temporary walkways were in place so it was possible to walk round without waterproof boots, though not all areas were accessible until mid afternoon. Perhaps because of this, breakfast on the Sunday was manic with guests and staff dashing everywhere. Breakfast itself was excellent , with hot and cold options available. Everything returned to normal on the Monday as the water had gone and breakfast was a much more sedate affair.
Transfer to the cruise ship is easiest if you take a private water taxi but it is about €80. However, nothing in Venice is cheap.
I would most definitely stay here again, for the location, size of room, quality of the Bauer hotel and general service.

Having visited Venice almost annually for 20 years, we know the city extremely well and were excited that a deal came up at the Bauer which we had never tried. We were aware that we would be in the Casanova next door and were pleased to have a suite. However, the rooms, though spacious and nicely decorated, were very dark and without natural light. This had not been addressed in the ambient lighting in the room which was completely inadequate. Though the suite came with a small kitchenette including a fridge and coffee maker, there was not even a mug, much less the usual complimentary teas and coffees that you would expect in a 5-star hotel. We asked for mugs and were told they were only given for stays of more than one week. We had to go out and buy two and the coffee to go in them.
Worst thing though was the WiFi connectivity which was almost non-existant in the room, (and €20 for the stay). Although we were on a short break, we do run our own business and had crucial need of the Internet on a daily basis. We were forced to go with laptop to the lobby where we had neither privacy nor peace to make essential calls whilst on line and where it was uncomfortable to spend an hour taking care of necessary business matters. We felt this was completely unacceptable for a hotel of this quality and were offered no helpful suggestions.
Breakfast was mediocre with the hot buffet luke warm at best though the prosecco was a nice touch.
Best service was the concierge who was able to accurately pinpoint some restaurants whose names and locations we had forgotten just by our description. Full marks to him!
