“Expensive for small uncomfortable rooms”
Reviewed 9 October 2013 via mobile

We paid 140€/ night for a small room with no comfort. The location is OK .
Most of the time, we are staying in Mestre, the hotels are better and much cheaper, you just need to take a train (10 min. Max). This time, we were attending a professional workshop and the organiser booked 20 rooms in this hotel. I definitively not recommend this hotel!

I was pleasantly surprised with this place. Due to the price compared to other residences in Venice, I was expecting a dive. The lobby has little to be desired and does feel abandoned but the room was clean, bathroom nice and bed comfy. The room had an interesting decoration and did look a little like a tart´s boudoir but that actually added to the amusement. breakfast was nice over the way and staff were helpful.

The cheapest in Venice- good localization, clean, quiet. You can use WiFi for extra fee in the hotel just in front of Domus Cavanis. Room was clean but very average. Localization was perfect, near everything which is important to see in Venice.

Given the price which is unbeaten across Venice we expected a totally unbearable room. In reality what you get is a cosy and clean room with your own neat bathroom (many other hotels offer a common bathroom for the same price). AC handled perfectly the warmth and humidity. Breakfast at Belle Arti just across the road was perfect, lots of staff of a good quality, nice garden. The staff at the reception was quite friendly and helpful. We arrived around midnight and were afraid that our booking might have been cancelled but it wasn't.
On a minus side is totally abandoned lobby which made us feel a little unsafe but the whole area seems to be free of troubles...
I would highly recommend the hotel for those on a budget but willing to stay in the very heart of Venice.

This converted convent is part of the Hotel Belle Arti complex and is such a nice find in the beautiful city of Venice. It is very close to the Academia Bridge and has a beautiful quiet garden that is a pleasant place to enjoy a rest from the wonderful busy life going on in Venice. Our room was very clean and modest but was very a good price given it is in Venice.

The location of the hotel is good, it is very near the vaporetto stations and also near every important location in the area. Our first problem came up when we tried to find the hotel, no noticeable sign on the door, then no reception inside, the place seems always like a haunted house. Then when we finally found out where to check in (only thanks to another guest who had to resolve the same puzzle before us), in the Belle Arti hotel (that is also managing the Domus Cavanis hotel) across the street. We found out that our reservations for Domus Cavanis were cancelled only a night before our arrival, on the 13th of July, even though we made reservations 14 days before our arrival. They apparently cancelled our reservations, due to some (unknown to us) credit card problem, on Saturday night, the 13th and we arrived there on Sunday the 14th. If I was supposed to check my email for the cancellation only night before my trip, they should have emphasized that somehow. They managed to find another room for me and my husband, but for five days that we stayed there, we couldn't normally enter our room because the key or the lock were broken, so every time it took at least five minutes of messing up with it, in order either to get into the room, or on our way out, trying to lock it behind us. I reported the problem on the reception of the Belle Arti hotel across the street, the lady receptionist came unwillingly with me, tried to lock it for us, but she couldn't, she promised to take care of it, but when we came back around midnight, the same problem appeared, we only entered the room after ten minutes of the blocked key/lock torture in front of the door, making noise and disturbing everybody around, and the night receptionist didn't have a clue about our previous reporting a problem. He came to help us too, he was nice and polite, but he didn't manage to resolve it, he promised it will be done the following day. The following day the third receptionist promised to take care of it, but when we came back to the room at night, we realized that nothing was fixed, so we didn't bother to try and complain more, we just kept unlocking and locking it in a long process of trying, so sometimes it worked quickly, sometimes it took more than 5 minutes for it. It appeared that the cleaning lady's key worked perfectly, she tried it in front of us. The elevator also was slow and I did have an impression that eventually we will be stuck in it, it didn't look safe. The double bad (letto matrimoniale) was made of two separate mattresses that kept moving and being apart, it was irritating. Also, there is no sound isolation, so we kept waking up every time our neighbors were coming into their rooms, and using them, and I imagine it was the same for them, when we were doing our usual and unfortunate locking/unlocking routine. So, my three points for this hotel go only for the perfect location, very good breakfast in Belle Arti hotel across the street, and for the clean rooms, where they kept changing the towels and the bed sheets every day. The rest needs major improvements.

Room Tip: I can't give a tip for a good room, our room was number 302, and we had problems with key and a...
