We are a young couple travelling in romantic Venice. Though the city reveals its mystic beauty to everyone, the Venetian experience is nonetheless enhanced by staying a wonderful, perfect, memorable home. We are certain that Venice wouldn’t feel as beautiful as it is without the heart and soul of Sandra and Leonardo, who modestly greet you in their home, while sharing their stories and their wide knowledge on Venetian life. They will pamper you, while being offered the highest quality in services and accommodation, and they will do this effortlessly, though we do acknowledge their hard work, which we truly respect. What makes their incredible beautiful house a perfect home away from home is not the design, the breakfast, the altana of the top room, the location (all these perfect) but their heart and passion which transcends through everything.

Location. The B&B is located perfectly in Cannaregio district, on the third floor of a house on a canal, in a less touristy area. After exploring the neighborhood, the different restaurant and baccari bars situated nearby, after observing the authentic Venetian life of people living here, we would choose no other location in Venice to stay. Apart from the genuine feeling offered by a real home, and not a cold hotel, you will find it extremely easy to reach Sandra’s B&B. We came from the train station (Santa Lucia) and we followed the detailed and useful directions offered on the B&B’s website, and in 20 minutes we were there. Sandra waited for us since we had communicated her our arrival time. Very close to the B&B you will find restaurants, shops, bars. Do trust completely Sandra’s recommendations on restaurants and baccari bars, and you will find yourself experiencing the great Venetian cuisine in high quality venues. Walking from the B&B to the San Marco piazza it will take you about 15 minutes. While here, be sure to explore Cannaregio district and its quiet beauty, the old Jewish quarter.

Rooms. We had the loft and the quality and design of the room is amazing. You won’t miss anything and you will find yourself drawn to the altana, the terrace on the roof. From there, the view is amazing. We spend daily some time watching the boats passing by and how the locals’ life revolve around the water canals. Things that are provided in the room: a kettle, tea, sugar, instant coffee, tea cups, hair dryer, several bath products, a comprehensive documentation on Venice, a very useful map.

Sleep quality. The mattress of the bed is magical. We slept like babies and, given the quiet neighborhood we couldn’t hear a noise from outside. Although we stayed only 5 nights, we had our linens and towels changed in our third day (we didn’t thought it was necessary, we just want to point out their quality in services). Outstanding sleep quality.

Breakfast. The breakfast room is practically their own living room, beautifully decorated. We were overly impressed by the quality of the cutlery and the dishes, and by the good taste reflect by the table setting (each morning they would change the table cloth and matching napkins and matching glasses – a different color theme every morning). Attention to details is their utmost concern. The variety of the breakfast food is large. Apart from having a wide selection of delicious cheeses, cereals, yogurt, meats, fruits, tea and coffee, Sandra will cook every morning different specialties based on eggs, cheese, spinach, different tarts and cookies. Absolutely delicious.

Overall, look no further and book your room at Sandra’s B&B. Sandra does enrich the guests' visit to Venice and her warmth, kindness, and attention to details and high quality services made us feel extremely welcomed, pampered and just like staying with family. We couldn’t have enough thank you words for such a wonderful stay, highlighted by the passion and heart of this magnificently caring and affectionate woman, Sandra.

Room Tip: The loft room is spectacular, with amazing views over the canals and rooftops from the altana.

We stayed 3 nights with Sandra & Leonardo in the courtyard room. It has double glazing, so there are no problems with getting a good nights sleep. It is a good size room with a very functional ensuite. Location is great, with easy access to anywhere in Venice, you just need to ask Sandra for advice on how to get around. We used the gondola to cross the Grand Canal to get to the markets & walk around from there. It's been stated many times that the breakfast provided is wonderful, but Sandra really does put in a huge effort in cooking fresh cakes, focaccia or other savory pastries each day. She then puts some of these in your room for your return after a hard day to have with a cup of tea. Overall a definite 5 star stay.

Room Tip: Any of the 3 rooms would be good. The views from the breakfast room are amazing.

We stayed with Sandra and Leonardo for four nights in early May, having chosen it due to the previous positive reviews, it’s location in one of the quieter, less touristy neighbourhoods of Venice and easy access to the airport via the Vaporetto. We had the canal room, which as the name suggests, overlooks one of the smaller, though very active canals of Venice, in the Cannaregio district. The room was quite small but had excellent built-in wardrobes, which also accommodate our large suitcase, once unpacked. The room also had two chairs and a chest of drawers with tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom was of a decent size with a large shower and good-sized vanity unit around the basin. We only used the Aircon on one evening and it was very effective as well as being super quiet. During our four night stay, our towels and bed linen were changed after the second night; to be honest, the bedding would have done for the four nights but it was good to get the towels changed as they never dry properly in between use so quickly take on a damp smell. The trek from the Fundamenta Nuove water bus stop is not that far but with heavy luggage it is bad enough, particularly as every bridge has steps on both sides and then on arrival at Sandra’s there are a further three flights of steps but we knew this as it is made very clear on the B&B website and Sandra has even gone to the trouble of providing step by step, directions with accompanying photographs, which was extremely helpful. Sandra offered to help with our luggage and also attempted to open the second half of the glass door but we managed without help and she then left us to get settled in, giving us a very good map of Venice, together with her own self-produced local map with restaurants, shops, bars, etc. numbered on the map by location with details on a separate sheet, which, was once again very useful and a very nice touch, which epitomises Sandra’s careful attention to detail and clear desire to ensure her guests are well catered for. After a quick freshen up, we went out for a quick explore and to have dinner; the B&B is in a charming, quiet residential area but within minutes of leaving the B&B and crossing two small bridges, we were in the heart of bustling Strada Nuova. We loved the neighbourhood of Cannaregio and found plenty of lovely little bars and restaurants, many offering canal side dining and drinks. Sandra and Leonardo take great pride in their home and in the hospitality they provide; this was epitomised by the ever changing table cloth, napkins and matching glassware each morning together with the excellent and varied breakfast; I must have tried 20 different Italian cheeses over four mornings, just don’t ask me to remember them all! A different fruit platter or fruit salad was provided each today together with different meats and a homemade savoury baked dish and a different cake every morning, together with a different type of freshly squeezed juice. In addition, Sandra made us lovely, fresh, strong hot chocolate every morning rather than tea or coffee; she was quite wonderful. Many of her guests have returned to Venice and her B&B many times over and if we should return to Venice in the future, we would definitely stay in Sandra’s.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in March 2014. Sandra and Leonardo were very nice to us. They have a beautiful home that looks like it could be a museum. They lay out a fabulous spread for breakfast. The canals outside are rather busy with commercial boat traffic. This could wake you up pretty early if you sleep with the windows open. Otherwise, just a wonderful place to stay to explore Venice.

I have again spent six nights at Sandra B & B in Venice. Perhaps unadventurous but why change when it is so good. Quiet location, but only minutes from the Vaporetto. The Attic suite is spacious with a roof terrace (altana)

As always I search Tripadvisor for the best and interesting places to stay. This B&B seemed to stand out but I was concerned it may be too far away from the popular tourist spots. How wrong was I and I almost changed it! We had visited Venice some years ago and just wanted somewhere to call home for this visit. Sandra, the perfect host, has a beautiful home, a breakfast to die for, a typical compact Italian bedroom but a nice quiet location. We frequented the local cafés and restaurants and found it less populated by the hordes of tourists and much more enjoyable. And in 3 days we still had time to tour the main areas twice. The 20 min walk was always enjoyable because of the abundance of quality shops.

Room Tip: Try for the loft room if you can. We missed it but we're still very happy with our canal facing...

We chose Sandra's from TripAdvisor reviews for its location - it was everything we expected and everything we wanted. We're not very good at being tourists and it was a real relief to stagger away from the crowds of people holding up phones and tablets into a part of the city where people were just getting on with their lives - and not a mask shop in sight! As close as we could hope to get in just a few days to seeing what living in Venice might be like

Room Tip: Book early
