We stayed at the Hotel a la Comedia in June 2014 and it is a top class hotel. The hotel is new and has some unique features, the twinkling star , mirrored lift and the art deco lamp shades on the stairs are beautiful and the room we had for E 945.00 for 3 nights was stunning, with the gold curtains theatrically framing the bed head and beautiful tiles with gold inlay, in the bathroom. The personal deck covered in pink flowers and the view over the of roof tops was just lovely. The roof top bar was also spectacular. The breakfast was great too and the location , near the Railto bridge, was central and easy to walk to anywhere. The concierges were helpful , but formal in a posh sort of way rather than really friendly but over all we would give the hotel top marks, tho expensive. The only problem we had was with the internet as rather than it just having a password that logs on automatically after the first time, like most places, they had a tiresome system of giving you coupons for 24hrs total wifi but it didn't remember yr details and timed you out for no reason. Also my emails wouldn't send and staff could not help. They need to get up with the play with that one. also there was some noise in the mornings, possibly from the kitchen radio , but not sure. Otherwise fabulous.

The Hotel is brilliantly situated near to the Rialto Bridge. We caught the Alilaguna from the airport and were dropped off at the Rialto stop, and it was a short walk ( a few minutes) to the hotel. The receptionist welcomed us in flawless English, and briefly explained about the bars and the breakfast service. Looking at the photographs I think we must have been in one of the smaller rooms but it was more than adequate, spotlessly clean and very well appointed. As well as bedside lamps there were also small led reading lights on either side of the bed which were small enough not to disturb the other person, but gave more than enough illumination. For me the mattress was a little too firm but other than that I can't fault the room & bathroom. The breakfast buffet was very good with a good choice to please most international tastes. Hot drinks were served at the table and if I was going to be critical it would be about the tea, but I am resigned now to Europeans not understanding the need for boiling water in tea preparation! It's a shame because they offered a nice Twinings breakfast tea bag but giving you a pot of lukewarm water to brew it with doesn't really cut it.
We only went to the roof terrace bar once and as others have mentioned it was a bit pricey but so is everywhere in Venice! It was a pleasant experience and I'm glad we did it. I probably won't revisit Venice but if we ever did I would definitely choose this hotel to stay at again.

I booked La Commedia through BA to celebrate both our Wedding Anniversary and my husband's 60 birthday. I booked a "best available for paying immediately" option on BA. I actually phoned the hotel direct to ask about upgrading to a suite. They wanted 250 euros per night extra. Frankly, I can think of far better uses for 1000 euros in Venice so I didn't take it. We spent over a quarter of that in the hotel itself on the roof terrace, which was my whole reason for booking this hotel. It certainly did not disappoint. Our favourite barman was Giovanni, a delightful character and excellent barman. There is something magical about sitting on a rooftop in the centre of Venice especially at night. Prices were on the high side but well worth it and the quality was excellent. In fact, the ham and melon platter was quite reasonable at 15 euros and was just what we needed to share as a snack. What didn't always work was the reaction of the Receptionists. Very pleasant and helpful welcome but I didn't really think that same Receptionist recognised us a day later. This is not a big hotel. We are not that forgettable. The room we were given was well appointed but small. However, it wasn't hot being on only the first floor. I rather think it is better to be on a lower floor in June. As I mentioned, we spent 260 euros in only 4 nights in the hotel bar. Not too shabby yet when I asked if we could extend our stay by just one hour, I was curtly told the hotel was fully booked and it was impossible. This despite the fact that they can't clean all the rooms at once and I knew of at least 3 other rooms on our floor that were leaving by 9.30am. Had they extended our room, we would probably have spent some more money in the bar. As it was, we didn't spend another penny in the hotel and left earlier. Really stupid attitude and hardly one that will induce me to book again. It's a shame that the arrogance of certain members of the Reception staff colour the whole hotel.

Room Tip: Lower floors cool. Don't know if there are any larger ones on the first floor. If so, go for t...

We visited in June and were appointed a large room that was adjacent to the rooftop terrace/bar. The room and bathroom were great. Drawbacks: noise from people dragging chairs in terrace/bar area, air condition not cold enough, breakfast was menial and the staff at breakfast was a bit arrogant, For the price I didn't expect any drawbacks but it is Venice.

Just back from a husband and wife retreat to Venice and the La Commedia added greatly to enjoyment of the city. The staff is first class and knowledgeable. The facility is definitely 4 star and very clean. The roof top bar is expensive, but such a great place to recap the day and meet other travelers. We would stay there again in a heartbeat and would recommend it to others.

Once again, Lisa at Beach Bum Vacations hit another one out of the park with this one!! Our suite was HUGE and beautifully appointed! The bathroom was by far one of the best of all the hotels we stayed in while in Europe! Even had a towel warmer! The staff here was pleasant and helpful. They gave good advice and made arrangements for a wonderful gondola ride that was very enjoyable. The location of the hotel is perfect! Short walk to St. Mark's square and not far from the Rialto Bridge. There was lots of shops and restaurants close by. The rooftop terrace is a must in the evening! The bartender and his helper were very attentive and polite. The breakfast buffet was adequate and and a great benefit. This hotel would be my "go to" in Venice!

We loved our stay at the La Commedia on San Marco in Venice. We were a little worried as we approached the hotel from the Grand Canal, because we were looking at the back of the hotel. The hotel sits in the middle of the block, so there are no views of the water from its windows.

What really surprised us was how wonderful the service was in this hotel. They were very accommodating of every request we made. The location, just half a block from the Grand Canal, is also wonderful. You are a very short walk to wonderful small shops and squares and the really great restaurant, Ai Mercanti, which was recommended by the hotel staff and which we really enjoyed. The hotel is about 10-15 minutes walk to St. Mark's square where the major attractions are located.

Our room was attractively appointed but a little small as we were traveling with our teenage son and needed a roll away.

While we weren't "wow'ed" by the breakfast room (small) or the breakfast offerings, the location and service more than compensated.

We would definitely stay at this hotel again. The location and service were so nice.
