Tucked away in a centrally located alley , this beautifully decorated small hotel made us feel really at home. The reception/ concierge is basically a few well dressed extremely knowledgeable staff who stand around in the entrance and literally arrange everything for you. Check in/ out was seamless and so was all concierge arranged trips and services . Breakfast is in the same area that acts as the main restaurant , lounge, and bar. They knew us by name from day one and arranged our favorite foods the next day without us asking. Dinner there was also a treat .

We had 6 rooms and I think one in each category. They were all spacious and a treat to look at. Myself and my wife stayed in the canal suite , which is a stunning room with a balcony on the grand canal. The other rooms were all good so you can't go wrong whatever category you choose.

The pallazina grassi is definitely one of these rare places that you feel good about from start to finish. You are in a very quiet alley , yet minutes away from all the noisy tourist sites. The water taxi and gondola stops are literally at your doorstep . And the place is impeccable. The rates are high , but we walked away happy and that's what matters.

Like others, I selected this hotel for it's design sensibility and in that aspect, it lived up to its promise. Much like other Philippe Starck properties, the atmosphere is chic and unique, creatively presented with surprises at every turn, including unusual nods to local Murano glass makers but also the familiar Starck touches that one comes to expect. The property, however, is very limited with virtually no common area to sit in upon entry, apart from a wonderful bar/restaurant where you're offered a drink upon arrival. A nice touch to be sure, but not much else is done to make you at home. The lack of seating in the entry became grating in the next few days, as there was literally nowhere to sit if you weren't in the bar/restaurant and barely anywhere to stand to ask the concierge a question. They were reasonably helpful, but given that the entry is manned by pretty much one person with no desk at all, there's just so much attention they could give any one guest.

There were also two big negatives we experienced that are the reason I didn't rate this chicly appointed property a 4. The first is the location. Having never been to Venice before, it was hard to tell on the map just how far the hotel is from anything we wanted to visit. We kept hearing about how walkable a city Venice is, but in truth, if you venture out for the day and return to change for the evening, it's quite annoying to have to trek all the way back to where you just walked from for dinner. And while it's quite close to a water bus/taxi stop, they stop running after a certain time at night. It gets very quiet near this hotel at night and you really get the sense there's nothing nearby. (At no time, however, did it feel dangerous. Just quiet.)

The second and much bigger negative is something I truly don't understand and is so easily fixable, that I can't imagine why it exists at all. Our room, while small, was quite lovely, and done in mostly white linen with venetian glass mirrors all around. The bathroom was lovely and comfortable as well. However, the was literally not one drawer in the entire room to put one's clothing in. I've encountered the limited drawer space in European hotels before, but this was extreme. They could so easily have replaced the existing nightstands with ones that had drawers. We had no choice but to keep our clothing in our suitcases taking up precious floor space. I will never understand just where the proprietors of the hotel think their guests are going to store their clothing. For me this is a deal breaker. I can get past the location and the non-existent entry to enjoy the wonderful design of the place. But to be so uncomfortable in the room for lack of storage space is simply unacceptable.

One final note - it would be nice if they added a sign to the front of the hotel, as it was impossible to find. Fortunately the water taxi driver pointed the way, but as you need to walk around the block from the dock, we pretty much had to stumble upon the place to find it.

We have just returned from 3 nights staying at Palazzina G. We chose this hotel as we both love the Sanderson and St Martins Lane, both Philippe Starck designed. Two weeks prior to arriving we booked a private water taxi direct with the hotel for 140€, more than you pay direct with the water taxi companies but we wanted to be safe in the knowledge that it would be a seamless transfer. We stood at number 14 dock as the email from the hotel asked for over half an hour and no taxi arrived! We eventually called the hotel and despite our confirmation email from them, they had no record of it, but said they would call me back in two minutes. They never called back but did call a taxi and we were on our way shortly after. On arriving at the hotel, they apologised and said reservations were closed but they would check in the morning what went wrong and let us know - they never mentioned it again.

Check in was great, and the drink and nibbles in the bar whilst this is taking place, a lovely touch. We were shown to our room, and although small, was very nice with typical Starck decor. The only complaint we would have about the room was it was extremely hot. We had the air con set on 16.2 the whole time we were there but had to open the windows whenever we were in the room! The first night we dined in the hotel restaurant. We were the only people in there all night but that was not a problem apart from lack of atmosphere. The service was fantastic and the food good.

The third night was not so good! We returned to the hotel, around 11:15pm to be greeted by security, there was a party due to start in the bar/restaurant at 11:30pm (the hotel had left a note in our room the night before so not a problem). We had a couple of drinks in the bar and went up to our room about 11:45pm, as the guests were arriving. At 2am the music was still blaring and our room on the 1st floor was thumping. Despite calling reception twice nothing was done to turn the music down but they said we wouldn't have to pay for that nights stay - very nice but we would have preferred some sleep! It was after 3am when the music went off!

In our opinion, a hotel that would rather cater for a party than care for their guests should consider what they are! Are they a party venue or a hotel? Or do both, but soundproof the rooms!

We will go back - NO! Shame, as its a lovely hotel in a good location (10 mins walk to St Marks Square and 1 min from the water bus service) but we have been put off!

We booked PalazzinaG for our wedding reception and it was amazing. The staff was entirely helpful (even when I miscounted my guests and added five two days before the wedding), the venue itself is just wonderful, the location is amazing and the food was wonderful. I cannot say enough about Simona and her staff with all of the arrangements. The reception was perfect, and we will always have those memories. Thank you, PalazzinaG!!

This hotel is wonderful. Beautifully designed, clean, comfortable and in a great spot. Without exception, all the staff I spoke to were charming and helpful. We booked through Mr & Mrs Smith and got a free dinner which was also excellent.

My wife and 6 month old son stayed for a long weekend in february. We were kindly upgraded to the grand canal suite which was just awesome. The rooms are gorgeous and the view was amazing. they also threw a party that Saturday night that was attended by over 150 people so definitely also the place to be as far as a scene goes. The lobby and restaurant are really cool - can see pictures on sight, but most importantly, at least in our experience, the service was very strong. It seems they were taking particular effort to be as helpful as possible so here i would contrast a bit with some of the other reviewers. The thing to keep in mind is that it is a boutique hotel so it's not going to have all the resources another might. In addition the food was excellent and very reasonably priced. room service also fantastic. and breakfast was so personalized and complete. Everyone was so kind to us and we really had a great weekend. The suites are set in a building in the back along the canal - the floors are a bit thing so you can here your neighbors a touch but it didn't bother us. also true that the location is not the easiest to find but that's what maps are for i suppose... and from water taxi you can go straight to the door or 1 block walk.
