It's hard to find such a beautiful hotel in Venice and I have seen quite some. Location is great with a boat that brings you to piazza san marco every half an hour . the trip just takes a couple of minutes. The garden and the atmosphere is amazing. Rooms large and well designed. REally a beauty. Service is very kind, a rarity in Venice. But the hotel seems mostly understaffed as they seem to have severe service problems both at dinner and at breakfast.
Breakfast... I could not believe what I saw in a 5* hotel: prosciutto cotto ( cooked ham) of the worse quality. This kind of reconstructed ham that only second class pizzerias put on top of a pizza. The salami was so bad that my son that always its it at breakfast in hotels in italy refused to eat it. The bread was missing anything fresh and was all dry and chewy and even our mexican guest asked if they did not have better (fresh ?) bread (we fortunately got it without any problems at Al Covo restaurant in Venice for lunch). Marmalades ? there where only 3 to choose from, forget the popular strawberry as they did not have it. The selection of cheese was minimalistic. And so it goes on. I wonder if this Food and Beverage manager ever went to any other 4* or 5* hotels in Italy to present such a lousy quality and choice. It sad to see how the great italian food tradition is killed in such a way and this is in such a wonderful place.
I will return to this great hotel, but I will definitely skip breakfast and perhaps any eating in this propriety until they prove food and it's quality is as important for them as it is for some of their guests.

We were booked into this hotel by Readers Offers following a 6 star cruise with Seabourn. What a culture shock! We came from an environment where anything you wanted was provided to a hotel where it appeared that they would love it if they didn't have to have guests. First the good stuff. The hotel itself is beautiful. Across the lagoon from St Marks it provided a real oasis of calm. It has a wonderful perfumed garden where you can sit and read. The hotel building itself is also calm and peaceful with a huge central room where candles and a fire are lit at night. Our room was across the garden away from the main building (it was really quiet) and was quite contemporary with wooden floors and loads of windows and a large bathroom with a separate shower. Next the bad stuff bearing in mind the star rating of this hotel. When our group arrived we sat down on rows of chairs as if we were in a meeting. We had arrived in Venice 3 hours earlier and been taken on a tour to fill in some time but were not offered a drink of any description. Having been provided with the hotel shuttle launch timetable we were more or less told to go away until 2.30 when our rooms would be ready. Some fellow travelers tried to get lunch but gave up having waited 45 mins for a waiter to appear to be told that he would do his best to serve them. There were no other guests around.! On the hotel web site it says that water and prosecco are provided for guests to help themselves. When 2 members of our group took advantage of this they were told it didn't apply to groups. Are we not a guest if we arrive with more than a certain number of other people? The hotel could not provide maps and suggested we bought them at the shop next door. Breakfast was due to start at 7.00 am but the waiters didn't begin to set the tables outside until 8.00 am on the mornings we were there and in fact discouraged guests from eating outside by closing the doors into the courtyard! 'Normal' guests had a noon check out but our group, some of which were not leaving until early evening, had to check out at 10 with no option to stay in the room. Considering that this is supposed to be one of the best hotels in Venice this is not the way that I would expect them to treat their guests. For one of the best restaurants in Venice turn left out of the hotel and eat at I Figli delle Stelle just down from the hotel but make sure to book. Fabulous food at a reasonable price.

Room Tip: Rooms in the garden building are very light and airy and quiet

We were delighted with our stay - and the upgrade to a suite which made us feel very special. (It was our Silver wedding celebration but the upgrade was coincidence) . Bathroom was immense - views of the natural garden were delightful and breakfast was plentiful. As has been said this is a former convent so the decor reflects the austere scale of many of the rooms - dont think pretentious glamour.....

The location on Guidecca was a great choice - views of St Marks from the hotel and swift and regular vaporetti from just outside the hotel to St Marks or back to the bus station for the airport coach - with the added benefit of the hotel shuttle boat when you want a personal VIP trip over the lagoon. ( putting location in context the nearest other hotel is the Cipriani.!.)

We did not eat other meals or have drinks at the hotel ( bit beyond our price range ) choosing to try the restaurants in the city or further up the island.

Hotel fantastic ! Room amazing, junior suite. Only problem is service in the bar / restaurant, for such a wonderful hotel I ordered a glass of wine and a hot chocolate for my wife. We sat in the relaxing garden for 15/20 minutes to no avail, after a gentle reminder our drinks arrived. I expect to wait for a reasonable time if they were busy. However, there were 3 staff and two other guests. Wake up and look after your guests and they will look after you!

We didn't actually stay here but came across for the day for some spa treatments and some garden relaxation. We were actually staying at the sister hotel, the Il Palazzo near San Marco.

The shuttle boat runs every 20 minutes between the two and so the trip was quite convenient.

The spa was superb. We had the couples hammam massage which took forever and was wonderful. We both then had pedicures and I have to say that it was the best pedicure I've ever had. My feet have simply never felt as good - ever!

After the treatments we went onto the terrace for some late lunch - a lovely chicken salad at a very reasonable E12 - delivered by a superb waiter called Omar.

The Palladio is set in an old convent (apparently Venice used to be full of them because families used to give their superfluous girls to the Church when they had run out of money for dowries.) with beautiful gardens extending a long way to the rear of the hotel. It's really crying out for a pool but I can also understand why they'd want to preserve what was there in the first place. There's a terrace with tables and some very old fashioned sun loungers in the first garden. I don't think I'd feel comfortable at sitting on them in my swimming shorts though. It just didn't seem that sort of place. I could see me staying there if I visited Venice again providing the night bus went nearby as the shuttle stopped around 12. It was a real oasis of calm amongst the thronging bustle of the main part.

The only moan is that the Internet didn't work. The girl on the front desk said that she was going to inform the IT department right away but I note from other reviews that this problem seems have been going on for some time. Not a massive problem and probably a decided advantage if you are on a get away from it all break but most of us like to have that facility these days if only to follow Manchester City's continual progress to the heights of football excellence.

Would I recommend the spa?

Absolutely!

From the first emails with details on how to get from the Airport (easy) to the professional greeting at the entrance, and through our entire stay, we consider this one of the best hotels of its type in the world.
We can't say enough about the warmth of the staff, the amenities offered, suggestions for the less “touristy” places to go, and the special nature of the building itself. Our room had a window with a gorgeous view of the town across the water and we were greeted with complimentary chilled sparkling wine. The buffet breakfasts were great with a full choice of food. Everything worked, the place was clean as a pin, the bed was comfortable, and we had a ball. This was a First Class visit we would love to repeat.

Room Tip: Ask for a king bed and the Jr. Suite upgrade (if available). Ask for a window with water view.

The gushing but artificial welcome turned out to be the highlight- the same member of staff seemed to fail to recall we were guests shortly after. Don't dare ask for a few minutes extension to checkout at 12 noon for whatever reason and don't expect to be asked if you've enjoyed your stay in Venice. Very poor breakfast even by Italian standards. For the significant amount of money this hotel charges, everything is superficial. There are far better hotels in Venice offering a much better standard of service and welcome.
