“Gorgeous Hotel with Gorgeous Views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2013

If you dream of staying at a hotel along the Grand Canal in Venice then you need to check out the Bauer Palladio. At the Bauer you have the best of the best. You are only a short water shuttle ride away from the Piazza de San Marco and all of the other sites in Venice but you also have the most incredible view in the city. It is located on the "quiet" side of the Grand Canal so you have a lot less noise and and congestion. There are several wonderful restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and they also offer great views, wonderful food and prices that are more affordable than those just across the canal. The staff was very gracious. They took care of our bags, gave us suggestions on what to see and do, and when we got back from sightseeing our bags were in our room, the bed was turned down for the evening and we were amazed at the view we had. The bathroom was updated with a huge soaking tub and a separate shower that had a wonderful rain shower head. There is no question about it -- my next trip to Venice I will definitely want to stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the hotel. You will have an unobstructed view of Piazza de San Marco.

Having been to Venice dozens of times I now understand how pleasant it can be to remove oneself from the hustle bustle. Licated on Giudecca next door to Cipriani, this restored convent is the way to go. Rooms available in every rice point, gorgeous gardens, amazing breakfast, rides to Venice proper every 30 minutes. Absolutely the way to do it.

Room Tip: The hotel is divided into three areas- the convent( most affordable), Domus( my favorite like small...

The hotel is located in a fantastic location, very quiet and spacious with very peaceful gardens to unwind in and is a short shuttle ride away from San Marco. Unfortunately, it is let down by it's service. The front desk staff are unfriendly, not forthcoming with information, for example, asked for a map with some directions, were given a small map with little detail, found out later that they had better maps available. Maintenance is poor, reported that the safe in the room was non functioning, after 2 days, still not corrected and no status update provided. But my biggest issue is that after having washing done at an exorbitant rate, was supposed to be done on the same day, had to chase to have the washing returned which was eventually returned in 2 lots, due to this last minute rush, left some of the washing at the hotel when I checked out. I realised within 48 hours, I made 3 phone calls, was asked to put the details in an email,I did which and after making the calls and non committal responses from reception, I went back to the hotel to find that nothing had been followed up until we arrived. I would have assumed better service from a 5 start hotel, Hence this report.

Room Tip: Ask for a room over looking the back gardens, peaceful.

The Bauer Palladio has a great asset - location - and a problem - location!. It is a conversion of an old convent on the quayside in Giudecca which means spectacular views across the lagoon to San Marco. The lagoon view suite we stayed in had the bedroom on a mezzanine which meant we could wake up to the glow of early morning light on the churches and palazzos across the water. However it does mean that a little extra effort is required to get to the main sights. There is a hotel boat every 30 minutes but it does not start until 10am. There is a very frequent water bus service from a stop 50m along the quay. The ticket system is difficult for a non-italian speaker to work out but once we located a tobacconist nearby and purchased a 3 day ticket then using the system is very easy.

The hotel rooms need a little more attention and a lighter touch with furnishings. While the bedroom area in our suite was fine, the sitting area was badly laid out and very dark. Replacing the ugly and uncomfortable leather seating with some lighter and comfier upholstered chairs and a good coffee table would help as would better lighting. The bathroom was OK but should be better in a 5 star hotel.

The gardens are delightful but there is no pool despite having plenty of space and there is a charge to use the gym - surely not acceptable given the room prices.

Breakfast is a buffet and excellent. Light meals in the garden were very good, reasonably priced and served with charm and efficiency. The Aperol Spritz is excellent.

Venice in summer is crowded and can be noisy and this hotel is a haven from the tour groups.

Room Tip: Lagoon views are well worth the money

First impressions as you walk through the door are wonderful, big airy cool building, lovely lounge but as you start to walk further into the bar and gardens things start to look a little tired and less cared for. The room in the new building was a reasonable size and adequate but stark. The sun loungers in the grounds were possibly the most uncomfortable I have every tried, old rusting metal sun beds. Dirty cups/glasses etc had to be cleared as we ordered some drinks. Dinner in the garden was a pleasant buffet, breakfast was very poor.

Very nice, quiet hotel on the island of Giudecca.
Beautiful garden, excellent room temperature and good mattresses.
Multilingual and helpfull staff.
Has its own shuttle boat to and from St. Marc's square. It runs every 30 minutes and is very punctual.
A vaporetto stop is also next to the hotel.
Breakfast buffet rather limited for a five star hotel, but you can order anything else you want for breakfast with the waiters.
Too bad there is a swimming pool within sight but out of reach (pool of the neighbouring hotel that is indicated on the property map).

Room Tip: We had a lagoon view room, it was nice to see the boats pass by in the morning, no noise problems at...

The Bauer Palladio is set directly across from one of the best canal views in Venice. It is a very quiet place, a perfect respite from the crowds in San marco area, especially if you venture back into their provencal-style gardens, with paths and lounge chairs. The breakfast is served back there, with birdsong and roses climbing the old convent walls. Very relaxing, but not the place to be if you want activity. (Take the water taxi or a pleasant 10-minute stroll down to the Hilton Stuckey and their rooftop bar if you want music and more people. There were also a few restaurants that are on the promenade for dinner or drinks, avoiding the overpriced and mediocre Harry's.) Breakfast was typical of the breads, eggs, fruits that we found throughout Italy. Our room was large and ample and a lovely bathroom with tub as well as shower. A candle was lit next to the tub on our first night, which was a nice touch. The free shuttle across the lagoon was every half hour, but doesn't start until around 10 a.m. and requires a little planning to get there for the prompt shuttle. The front desk were pleasant and everything conducted in a timely manner.

Room Tip: It was a lovely to have a canal view, but a view of the garden would have been tranquil.
