Palladio Hotel & Spa
Ranked #65 of 385 Hotels in Venice
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 22 June 2014

I travel often to Venice and this was my first time staying on the Giudecca (I am a diehard fan of the Dorsoduro/Accademia neighborhood), a splendid island directly across the canal from San Marco. This once 16th century convent designed by the great Palladio (hence its name, Bauer Palladio) is just filled with character. You feel pampered the minute you enter the attractive lobby of this magnificent Venetian palazzo. The hotel is very famous for its spa, but we did not get a chance to try it, but I have friends who go often t their spa, and they tell me it is a divine experience! Service at the hotel is excellent to say the least, and the ladies who run the breakfast served in the gorgeous inner courtyard overlooking an equally gorgeouos garden are just lovely. Breakfast is very good, with much to choose from, from salty to sweet. The rooms are perfect, and the beds comfortable. We had a standard double looking out onto the garden, and it was just fine. We slept beautifully thanks to the peace and quiet that you are guaranteed on the Giudecca. One of the winning features of this hotel is that you are away the madding crowd, and after a full day of touring around crowded Venice, this place is a haven. The hotel offers a very efficient taxi service to and from San Marco, making it very easy to stop in at the hotel even a few times during the day, if you need to. These little boats run about every 20 minutes (last boat is around midnight) and get you to the Bauer Palazzo just directly opposite the Bauer Palladio in just a few minutes. Ah yes, did I mention the many characteristic restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel? We strolled to Harry's Dolci for their epic Bellini, then stopped at a ypical Venetian osteria tucked away behind one of the little canals close to the hotel, where we enjoyed a very traditional baccala mantecato (a must have while in Venice!) and black squid ink gnocchi. I will certainly return to the Giudecca and certainly to the Bauer Palladio!

Beautifully converted hotel from a convent. Room and was very large and well furnished.
Bathroom had bathtub, shower, bidet and was very spacious.
Breakfast abundant and elegantly served. You can eat outside in the beautiful garden (weather permitting).
Hotel gas a very convenient shuttle boat across the water every half hour to San Marco until 11pm.
Surrounding area is nice and quiet - wonderful change from crowded dirty areas across the water.

Room Tip: Higher floors have a view of San Marco and Venice or the Garden

This hotel is perfectly fine. That about sums it up.

It's unexceptional, quiet and has no heart.

It lacks a focal point, no lobby bar, no pool and other than breakfast you won't see a soul in the place.

Very little security - anyone can walk in and up to the rooms unchallenged.

Rooms were decorated extremely simply but bathrooms much higher standard.

Beds were two singles pushed together with a hard join in the middle so no crossing the centre line.

On the plus side - staff all helpful, especially at breakfast which was lovely outside in the garden.

The views from the front door are incredible.

Beware the Palladio is across the lagoon and this can only be reached by boat. Their is a free shuttle but it's only every 30 mins.

The water bus stop is 50 mts from the hotel.

Mini bar extortionate so make sure you bring water in with you at the very least.

To summarise this hotel was clean, quiet, simple, soulless and would suit a mature traveller.

We visited Venice on the first leg of our honeymoon and we opted for something a bit more luxurious than we may normally go for, and it was worth it!!! Upon pulling up to the hotel in Venice my heart soared, it was stunningly beautiful!! We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a sea (canal) view and literally opened our window to a stunning view of St. Mark’s square.
The hotel itself was warm and welcoming, a beautiful traditional style with all the modern amenities one could need. The staff were helpful and kind and very relaxed, which helped us settle in as at first I did feel slightly under dressed for such surroundings!!
The rooms were comfortable, clean and spacious. The breakfast was vast, there was so much to choose from, and the gardens, in which you could eat it, were beautiful. Although we didn’t get a chance to use the SPA facilities they also look amazing and I heard another couple discussing how good they were. We also had the opportunity to use their sister hotel, the Pallazzo, for drinks in the evening whilst waiting for the shuttle. The service here was also fantastic.
I would definitely recommend them for those wanting a little bit of peace and quiet luxury amongst such a busy city.

Room Tip: Definitly go for a sea view room, it was breath taking to wake up to each morning.

As previous reviews have stated the hotel is on guidecca, but don't let this put you off. It is easily reached by the free shuttle boat or water bus.Being away from the main tourist mayhem it is a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of central Venice.
The hotel is a converted 16th century convent which has been done very well. It has a wonderful character and charm. The gardens are beautiful and unsual to find in Venice. It has an amazing view from the front straight across to St. Marks square.
Breakfast can be taken outside in the peaceful rear of the hotel with a view over the gardens. The breakfast buffet is pretty standard, however the full English breakfast is 16 Euros extra ( a bit steep). I think most people will find it adequate to start the day though. We did not eat in the restaurant so cannot comment on the food there. The hotel is very quiet but like most people we spent most of our time exploring Venice so this was not a problem.
We would definately stay again if we are visiting Venice.

My partner booked 5 nights in this stunning hotel as a surprise for my 30th birthday. Throughout our trip, I did not encounter another hotel as perfect as this one. The restored 15th century convent is everything you would imagine from Venice and more. It is directly across the water from St. Mark's Square; close enough for convenience yet far enough away that you can disappear from the busy crowds when you have had enough of the tourists. The staff are absolutely fantastic and our room was fabulous, it looked out over the perfectly manicured gardens. We indulged in champagne breakfast every morning and then strolled around the lush gardens, a very rare thing in Venice. Wanting to sample a variety of restaurants, we only had lunch in the hotel once but the food was perfect. Although there are hotels around that may have more luxury, the character and individuality of this hotel is what is needed in such a romantic city. Well done to the staff, we will definitely return on our next visit.
