“Glorious Gondolas”
Reviewed 28 September 2012

My husband and I !! - have just returned from our honeymoon a one week stay at the Hotel Becher. It was wonderful. The hotel is ideally placed for walking a short distance to all the major attractions - The Doges Palace, St Marks Basillica, The Academia and is right next to the wonderful Fenice theatre where we were fortunate enough to see a performance of La traviata. Prior to our stay I emailed the Hotel to request a canal side room. They could not have been more helpful. We were fortunate that this was granted and how wonderful it was! The rooms are on the small side but you expect that in a city like Venice (Rome is the same) but was perfectly adequate for us and all my luggage. The walls are padded material which made the room feel luxurious. We had a Juliette balcony and patio doors which we inevitably kept open so that we could hear the singing Gondoliers passing by. It was heaven. Breakfast was great, continental style but plenty of choice and as much tea and coffe as you would like. Hotel staff were the nicest we have encountered and are willing to help with anything. We took the Water Taxi from the hotel to Murano (provided by the factory to encourage you to buy) which was a fabulous experience. We had it all to ourselves and felt like Film Stars! We did buy some (expensive) jewellery at the Glass factory but it is beautiful. If you book this hotel you will not be disappointed we were amazed at the standard of the hotel for the very competitive rate and would not hestitate to return.

Room Tip: Ask for a canal room it is worth it.

My girlfriend and I just spent 4 days in this hotel and have to say it was a very romantic hotel. We had a room with the balcony and the view of the canal and if you are going to stay here I say it's worth it. I mean how often are you able to look out your window and see the gondola drifting by underneath you? The breakfast is typical nothing to spectacular but, they do allow you to eat your breakfast by the river which is also very nice. I would say the only disappointment would be that you can not bring chairs out onto the balcony because it is very tiny. Also I asked one concierge where would you go to eat if you were to eat as a local? She did not tell us we needed reservations and the restaurant she recommended would not take us because we had no reservations but, I also saw there was almost no one there speaking Italian besides the waiters. Our other concierge did pick out a nice handful of restaurants for us though. This hotel is very romantic and a little bit pricey but, it is a one in a life time trip so I feel it is worth the money. I would not recommend this hotel though for a family trip I am sure you can find cheaper places to stay where you are not paying for the atmosphere.

Room Tip: People saying rooms on canal are loud. I am a very light sleeper and did not wake up once due to the...

We chose this hotel based on a friend's experience, and it did not disappoint.
The room was small but quiet, comfortable and nicely decorated. The location is perfect and the service was very good. Thanks a lot to the receptionist who checked us in - her name is Anna. She answered all our questions and recommended a couple of good restaurants and just made us feel really welcome.
The breakfast is quite basic but tasty. Don't make our mistake - remember to order "espresso" or "cappuccino" because if you just say "coffee" you will get instant coffee. Honestly, I never expected to get instant coffee in Italy, in a hotel for 250 euro/night. The cappuccino on the other hand was good.
The wi-fi was included in the room rate but the signal was too weak and not reachable in the room. However, it wasn't a big problem because whenever we needed to go online we took advantage of the lovely little terrace on the ground floor.
All in all, we had a good time and will recommend this hotel to friends.

What a find! With the help of the hotel's own directions, we found this hotel relatively easy considering the maze that is Venice. The cosy size of the hotel made it warm and inviting and the staff even more so. Particular thanks to Massimo for restaraunt recommendations and generally making us feel very welcome. We were sad to leave but would love to return in the future. Highlights of our stay in Venice included catching the vaporetto to Torcello and Burano, the Peggy Guggenheim gallery and the star of the show, Venice itself - wondering, getting lost and enjoying all of its charms. Priceless.

Stayed here for 3 nights in April 2010. Got a good deal on an excellent room with balcony overlooking the canal.

Staff were so friendly and had our room ready as requested as we had arrived early. A really huge room by Venetian standards as far as i know and really luxuriously decorated.

Could not think of one bad comment about the Becher..perfectly clean, lovely breakfast and excellent location only a few streets from St Marks.

Venice is just an amazingly surreal city and this hotel is a perfect place to start your adventures along the little streets from :)

Oh, as previous reviewers stated it is a little distance from the nearest Vaporetto stop, so make sure your luggage has wheels!!

Room Tip: Try and get one overlooking the canal!

The hotel staff were very helpful for my first time in Venice! Location was great, close to everything you need. A couple unexpected hidden treasures:

- Privet Dock with a bottle of wine
- Mozart's apartment across from my window

Thank you Hotel Becher & staff for a unforgettable birthday.

The hotel is nice and in a convenient location to San Marcos. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The biggest draw back is that the hotel is not very convenient to the vaporetto stop. You have to carry your luggage up and down several bridges and wind your way through alleys before you get to the hotel. Once there, they do have a lovely table that sits on the balcony to the canal and you can have your breakfast there. We were on the third floor and although there was a window in the room it was so high up that you needed to stand p
A chair to see out if it, only to discover that you looked onto the wall of the next door building. The staff was very friendly and willing to help in any way possible. In the end if didn't matter because we were hardly ever in the room. If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel in a good location for seeing all of the tourist sites, this is a great hotel for you.
