My wife and I stayed at the BB San Marco for 4 nights in the room with a private balcony. The entire stay was outstanding. The apartment was easy to find if you follow the directions and map they provide (I would print the map or save it to your phone). There are several flights of stairs to get to the apartment. Once there, you get a set of keys so you can come and go whenever you like. The room itself was well furnished, cleaned daily and very large. The balcony is an excellent addition, overhanging the canal and being several stories up means you get an excellent view over the rooftops of Venice!
Breakfast was local fare, mostly pastry and fresh coffee. The apartment is two levels, and the family lives on the top floor. The kitchen is shared for breakfast and closed otherwise, which never presented a problem. The hosts were excellent and you will see their young daughter running around occasionally. You definitely get the feel of staying with a family in a dynamic setting, more so than a sterile hotel. Staying here will add a great deal of authenticity to your trip, not to mention the local insight Marco will give you about things to do and where to go. Highly recommended.
Wonderful place, there were 5 of us with a large 2 bedroom apt, nice kitchen, very large. Basil in the window box out the window. Marco was so informative. Would highly recommend it. Marco said Rick Steves was here 2 weeks ago, this is definitely a place he would check out.
Recently stayed in the two bedroom apartment with my two sons and found the entire experience fantastic!! The apartment is nicely furnished with lots of funky and eclectic furnishings that Marco and Alice have collected over their years of traveling. Lots of space in both bedrooms and the living room is nice and large and full of travel books, music, and various other reading material. It was interesting to learn that the B&B is Marco's boyhood home so you are made to feel at home right away and become part of their family. We checked in and were invited to a neighborhood block party that evening which I thought was a very nice touch.
The apartment is a short walk to St. Marks square and other sites and is a close walk to lots of restaurants and shops. There is a great local market less than a minute down the canal and I bought loads of items to take advantage of the kitchen. Prices at the market were very good, lots of wines, cheese, and other items to immerse yourself in the Venetian way. As stated in earlier posts you are in a working neighborhood and I really enjoyed the sights and sounds of real Venice. I woke up early each morning and walked to St. Marks square (nobody there) and then down the canal front towards the Arsenale and Biennale and it was wonderful to soak in all the sights with the calm and peace of the morning.
In closing I would highly recommend B&B San Marco, it was a wonderful three nights and Marco and Alice will make sure your stay is perfect. I will definitely be returning to this beautiful city.
Marco was a wonderful host. We only met Alice briefly as she had been travelling and she seemed delightful. Venice and this B&B was my husband's and my first stop on our 3 week italy stint. This B&B was our favoriate by far! Marco was a wonderful host, he sat down with us and really provided so much useful information that we were set! He recommended some cool places that I hadn't thought to go to (and I am a huge planner!), including some wonderful restaurants. We stayed for 2 nights in the genitori room with the balcony and shared a bathroom. What an amazing view to wake up to in the morning!
The room was very comforatable, quiet and we never ran into a problem sharing a bathroom with the other people. For 3 nights we stayed in the apartment and it was just lovely. We read about this B&B on tripadvisor which is why we booked it about 6 months in advance and I have to tell you, it was reasonably priced and worth every penny!
I will say that we did have a tricky time finding this little gem, after all - it is Venice! Make sure you follow the instructions provided to getting to the B&B very carefully. After that, you will get the hang of getting to and from the city centre.
Should note that the B&B is on the third floor so there's a decent amount of stairs if you come and go often...but if you do not do stairs you may want to rethink Venice!
Loved Venice and staying at San Marco was wonderful, Marco &Alice thank you for a great place to stay and for you kindness and hospitality. The room was very cozy and the view was amazing and I enjoyed the sounds of Venice, it was close to everything yet out of all the tourist areas. It was an amazing experience.
