“Location was perfect, though rooms small and slightly noisy”
Reviewed 9 November 2013

We liked the hotel and will refer others. Pros: excellent location, friendly helpful staff, comfortable room, excellent breakfast with much variety. Cons: small room with no view. Noise from hallway and outside. Beds hard.

Location, location, location. This hotel is in a great location, so close to St. Mark's Square you are there in minutes. It's a great find too, and you'll need to find it - it's easy the second or third time you get there. Nothing is easy to find in Venice unless you have lived there. The directions from the hotel will get you there from the Rialto, just follow them carefully. The hotel has a great courtyard in front and you'll love the quietness of the area. The rooms are very nice, great bathrooms, large beds and plenty of storage. Our group had three rooms, one of our group left some things behind in the safe and the hotel called us with the news, handled shipping the items next-day-air and were simply wonderful. The breakfast buffet is very good and we highly recommend the Al Codega. If you're going to be in Venice a couple of days or more get the extended Vaporetto passes. Don't stand in the line at the dock, buy them from the self-service machines past the cue or go inside to the Tabac store. Or buy them on the boat!

We loved this hotel. So close to everything (Rialto, San Marco, Accademia Bridge). The room was quite comfortable and well decorated, though the shower tended to flood the bathroom (though this isn't unusual in Europe). The real standout is the breakfast -- so many options in a very nice room. We didn't have any trouble locating it, but make sure to follow the map provided on their website. The front desk staff was efficient and professional.

We loved this hotel primarily because it had a lot of the amenities we Americans are accustomed to. There was lots of room, a place for luggage, a seat in the shower and lots of storage space. The breakfast, while definitely Italian, had a very good variety including a big bowl of freshly cut fruit. The location was great once we found it. We even got lost a few times in the 3 days we were there but we were always in the general area. It became a game and we laughed. Front desk staff was most helpful.

We stayed 3 nights at the Hotel al Codega and it was our first trip to Venice and a present for my birthday. The hotel is tucked away in the San Marco district so before I go any further I thought it useful to give some simple directions from Marco Polo airport (a very nice airport by the way). If you wish to arrive in Venice by boat, leave the terminal building and turn left. It's about a 7-10 minute walk to the water port where you can take either a private water taxi - fast but expensive or the slower but cheaper Alilaguna service to Rialto. We bought a return ticket costing 27 euros each but it saved us 3 euros on the standard fare. Get off at Rialto Bridge and walk away from the bridge until you see the Calle del Carbon on your left. Follow this lane until it brings you into the Campo San Luca, a large square. Make your way across the square towards the white C San Luca sign on the wall and then follow the yellow San Marco sign to the right. Go past the Banco Marco on your left until you come to the Georgio Armani shop window. Turn left here and approximately 20yds on your right is a small opening which leads into the courtyard with the hotel entrance in the far corner. I've put some photos on this site as well. Our room was on the fourth floor and very spacious. It was well appointed with a mini bar, lovely and clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. The only slight disappointment was the lack of tea and coffee making facilities in the room but drinks are available from the bar. The breakfast was delicious with a varied selection of hot and cold dishes. The dining area was cosy and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel is in very easy walking distance of St Mark's and Rialto although we liked the less crowded areas of Dorsoduro and Cannaregio. We explored entirely on foot during our stay and with a guide book and map soon found it easy to navigate around the city and find our way back to the hotel. In 3 days you only scratch the surface of the city so at some point in the future we will return and we would definitely consider staying at the Hotel Al Codega. Hope the directions are useful - how did we locate the hotel? A friendly street seller in Campo San Luca showed us the way and saved us a lot of time. Enjoy.

Really liked the hotel, good breakfast, the room is just cozy and cute. Not a big room but not too small! Clean bathroom and good location and service! Would recommend to anyone! We were surprised about the news os the government not allowing the air conditioning to be turned on, but nights are cool and we were fine with the windows opened!

Convenient location to all areas of Venice. Very walker friendly. The rooms were exceptionally clean and quiet...loved the luxurious comforter. Breakfast suited for a King. Very enjoyable! Staff was very helpful and more than willing to accommodate. Loved our stay!

Room Tip: I would guess that all rooms are about equal unless you would like to be facing the courtyard.
