The building is stunning, it has been beautifully and lovingly restored. Great location , outside is a water. Rooms are well appointed, very clean and satisfying. Service at this hotel is great, friendly staff and polite. Buffet is nice and worth it of the money. Highly recommended.

We've been going to Venice at the beginning of January for many years now, and have stayed in many different hotels; loved some of them.
But since we discovered the Stern - that's it. We stay nowhere else - incredibly good deals at that time of year. The building is stunning, it has been beautifully and lovingly restored ( the building itself is not old, it was only erected in its current form at the the beginning of the last century, but Mrs Stern did in in the traditional Venetian style)
The staff are beyond friendly and helpful. ( Last year when we were staying with friends who had rented a flat round the corner we were left with a whole day in Venice and nowhere to leave the luggage - we ran round and asked if we could leave it in the hotel and they said 'Of course'. SO kind of them, and we were VERY grateful)
The rooms are gorgeous ( even the small ones)
And what no-one talks about is that as far as I'm aware it's the only hotel (apart from the Gritti which is prohibitively expensive and very snooty) which has a terrace overlooking the Grand Canal. If you stay during the warmer months that's where you eat breakfast. And even in winter, with a coat on it's a delight to sit there with a cup of coffee or something stronger and watch the world float by.
All in all, one of our favourite palaces to stay anywhere in the world.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the Grand Canal are favourites, but I've been very happy in other rooms.

First of all, the Palazzo Stern hotel was very easy to find. We used the public transport and found it very easy and convenient to locate the hotel because it had a public transport boat stop directly in front.

Before arriving at the hotel we consulted their website for directions. I feel that the website could be updated a little bit to show just how easy and convenient the hotel is to locate. For example, adding a map of the Alilaguna and vaporetto lines would be helpful.

We arrived early and were warmly greeted at the front door with fresh orange juice and coffee. Our room was beautiful, it had a small balcony that overlooked the canal. Our breakfast was served in our room by the very friendly bellboy (who made an excellent cappuccino and americano). As is typical throughout Italy, don't expect a huge American style breakfast! However, do expect fresh rolls and delicious coffee.

The hotel also booked us a Murano glass factory tour. This tour was a lot of fun because a small boat picks you up at the hotel and brings you to the glass factory for free. It is important to note that the glass company will not drop you back off at your hotel for free; however, there is public transportation off of the island and it is very inexpensive and easy to use.

The hotel is also very close to Piazza San Marco and is just about a block away from the gelato chain Grom.

My only regret is that we did not stay in Venice longer. I look forward to returning soon.

we travelled end of January 2012. The hotel promises great location and Venician charm.
We have booked directly through the hotel website.

Pro: Great location, great views, lovely bathroom, quite, Junior suite great, email exchange responsive, booked theatre tickets for us.
Cons: fake old, it seems renovation changed its course from trued to the roots of an old palace to- lets finish quickly, steely - chrome bar, fake pillars, watermarks in the ceiling, heating not adjustable, coffee machine not working, breakfast sad, loveless, subpar and max 3* quality
Summary: OK-ish, value for money based on Junior Suite: 3/5

Dear Friend,

the building is completely original, has been restored with love and with a BIG investment of money and time (it took 5 year to restore the building). I don't consider this as a quick job.
We have many mosaics (some of them are romans), we have sculptures, we have paintings, furnitures... and most of them are at least 100 years old. The older piece of the building is 1800 years old.

I'm sorry if you didn't enjoyed your stay, I'm sure that something went wrong with you. But honestly I don't understand what.

These reviews should help us to improve our services and the other people to choose the right hotel for their vacation. But what went really wrong with your stay?

Warmest regards,

Roberto

I travel 14-16 weeks a year. Palazzo Stern is one of my favorite places to stay. The service, the beauty, and the serenity are sublime. The location is central; everything is accessible; and yet, you are out of the fray.

Room Tip: My friend and I liked the privacy of adjacent rooms 301 and 302 or 401 and 402.

It has an old palace, very well renovated. A wonderful, very convenient location overlooking the Grand Canal, right next to the Ca' Rezonica water bus stop, close to the Academia and 10mn walk from ST Marco Plazza. The area is quiet with a lot of small, inexpensive restaurants. The terrace overlooking the Grand Canal is wonderful. Very kind and helpful front desk. A very good breakfast.

This hotel is a real find, less pretentious than some of the other hotels on the Grand Canal, but no less beautiful and comfortable. The breakfast on the terrace overlooking the canal is a highlight of the stay. Friendly, attentive and comfort all make this a real pleasure, and by Venice standards at bargain prices.
