5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

On June 14,my daughter and I had the good fortune of staying at Palazzo Stern,on the Grand Canal. From the moment we arrived we were met by very attentive staff, given a large room overlooking the Grand Canal, complete with champagne which was chilling upon our arrival in our room.
The staff could not have been kinder or more attentive. When they learned that we would not have enough time to visit Murano, they arranged for a water taxi to pick us up free of charge and take us to the Murano factory in St Marks square. Upon disembarking the taxi,a staff member was waiting for us and gave us a private tour of the glass blowing, where an artist made a glass horse for us while we watched.
In addition, every restaurant recommendation was wonderful and the breakfasts outside on the Grand Canal were made even more delicious because of the scenery right in front of us.
I highly recommend the Palazzo Stern and wish I could return soon.
Judy Wayne

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Grand Canal.

Stopped here over Easter for my wife's birthday in a suite overlooking the canal.
From the moment we arrived until the moment we left the staff could not do enough for us.
The building is fantastic as was our room.
Breakfast is very good and a couple of evenings we sat on the terrace with a bottle of wine and watched the world go by, considering the location we thought the bar was reasonably priced.
If you go out of the hotel and turn left after a couple of hundred yards there is a square with many competitively priced places to eat.
Went in by water taxi which was just excellent.

Thank you for your very kind review, I'm happy you enjoyed your stay!

Please don't forget that we now have a private boat, FREE OF CHARGE, for all those who book directly with us. The service is limited, but we are usually able to fit everyone's needs.

I look forward to welcome you again here in Venice, have a great day!

Venice, a world all to its own. We enjoyed our boat ride from the train and found the location, quiet yet close enough to where we wanted.....there is a waterbus station right beside the hotel which was very convenient. Th
e rooms were spacious and the pink and gold tiled bathrooms clean and spectacular! Our room had only a skylight which I didn't love but other than that was very comfortable. The breakfast was a lovely selection and it was so nice eating on the terrace watching the boats go by. The hotel offered a 'complimentary' boat ride to the Murano glass factory where we were then given a private tour of the factory with somewhat of a 'hard sell' of their product.....we also were recommended to a place for dinner that turned out to be a sister hotel and was somewhat of a culinary dissappointment. Perhaps too many connections? Overall a beautiful hotel with welcoming staff and a lovely accomodation.

We paid close to $1,000.00 for two(2) nights. The room was extremely small and very congested. The bathroom door opened so close to the table and sink inside the bathroom that one had to stand close to the shower, close the door prior to using any portion of the bathroom. The only thing nice was the shower.
There was no place to put the suitcases. If you put it on the stand, then you were blocking space that you needed to move around. Extremely congested. Looked like this room was designed for one person, yet they made us stay there.
This hotel was overly priced for what they offer. And they told us breakfast was at an additional cost (so dined elsewhere-where food was great and price was very reasonable). I would never recommend this hotel nor stay there if I ever find myself in Venice again.

Room Tip: Find another hotel.

Dear Friend,

I'm sorry you didn't like your room, but I think you are not describing it as it really is.

The italian law set minimum room dimensions for every hotel category. All our rooms are way bigger that those measure, in fact this is a complain we have NEVER get since the opening of the hotel. The rooms that cost close to 500 USD (in this period of the year) are VERY big. As usual, our property is at everyone's disposal in case someone doesn't believe to what I'm writing here.

The breakfast is always included in the room rate, and this it clearly wrote in all our descriptions and in your room confirmation / voucher as well. What is not included is lunch and dinner, in fact we don't have any restaurant in house.

Fact is that Venice is expensive (unfortunately), for everybody. If you wanna pay less you need to book a lower category or travel during shoulder / low season.

Warmest regards,

Roberto

We stayed at the Palazzo Stern for 2 nights in mid-May on our first trip to Venice and it could not have been better.

Firstly entering Venice itself is an experience to die for. We’d heard how fabulous the water taxis were so decided to cough up the €100 and arrive in style. The journey from the airport takes you across the Lido and then down some beautiful side canals until you suddenly enter the madness and beauty of the Grand Canal. At this moment we knew getting a room with a balcony was the right thing to do, as there are so many sights and sounds to savour.

The room itself (406 I think) was lovely with a HUGE window opening right onto the canal with a super comfortable bed, lovely toiletries and a whirlpool bath. Venice involves so much walking that even though we didn’t think we’d use the room we actually came back in the afternoon just to relax for a while.

The staff at the hotel are absolutely lovely. Upon arrival we got plenty of tips for things to do and a map with key attractions outlined. Also the lovely waiter who works at breakfast and carries the luggage is a truly lovely and happy guy. I’m sorry I don’t know his name but I hope he gets recognised for how great he is. The breakfast terrace is lovely but be warned if you leave your food alone for 2 seconds the pigeons will have it!

Venice itself is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. You will walk for MILES and see some of the most beautiful places and the Palazzo Stern is in such a good location. It’s near the Accademia and from there you can walk up to Rialto or down to San Marco pretty easily.

I can’t wait to go back and I know EXACTLY where we’ll be staying! Grazie Palazzo Stern

Room Tip: Get a room over the Canal. You may think you wont use it but trust me watching Venetian life go by i...

We very much enjoyed our stay at Palazzo Stern. Having opted for a suite with a canal view, we were shown up the rear stairs to it: a small room as you entered which had a sofa bed in it, then a large double bedroom. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom, with it's little arched window at floor level was a delight, having golden, pink and white tiles - very glam!

The view was that of the canal at the side of the hotel, and we also had windows looking out over gardens and rooftops at the back of the hotel. We were happy not to be actually looking at the Grand Canal because it is like sleeping on the edge of the M25: very noisy both day and night. 'Our' canal was peaceful and pretty - obviously there is no view if you look directly across to the next building, but as Venice regulars, we knew that in advance - the city is packed very tightly together, so very few people get a grand vista. But looking left to right was very pretty and we could see the Grand Canal in part.

Breakfast was, as stated by others, quite plain: a little bacon and eggs, but also cold meats and cheeses, plenty of bread/pastries and cereals and fruit, but as you spend your time in Venice eating far too much food at lunch and dinner, it was a perfect amount. The coffee was absolutely AWFUL!! (Incidentally, I disagree with a previous reviewer who said that the Caffe dei Artisti was good - it was looking like a bit of a dump in our view and we certainly wouldn't have chosen to eat there - there seemed to be a lot of drunk/drugged people hanging round it.)

Staff were all very charming and when we mentioned that it was our 25th wedding anniversary we were brought a lovely bottle of prosecco to help celebrate, which was very kind.

They have a private boat which is available in the evenings to take you to another hotel in the group, the Vivaldi, which has a top floor restaurant with the most fantastic views (not totally brilliant food, to be honest, but the view more than makes up for that!)

The bar is open until quite late in the evening and the bartender, Dennis is very clever at mixing cocktails.

There were, as ever, a couple of niggles:

1. I repeat, the coffee is really, really awful. Have tea.

2. Our room was reached by a rear staircase, and we were never told that up the main staircase is a most tremendously interesting couple of floors where other rooms are located: on the first floor there is a lounge area and on the second floor there is an extraordinary landing which was obviously once a chapel - it's very beautiful and you should see it.

But neither of these is a real problem - so overall I would thoroughly recommend the Palazzo Stern.

Buongiorno!

Thank you for your very nice review, I'm happy you enjoyed your stay with us!

The coffe is something we already discussed (unfortunately) here. At the moment we are not able to find a better quality of "american coffee" here in Venice. But we have a very good italian cofee! Espresso, cappuccino, whatever you want. Try it, it's very good!

I look forward to welcome you again soon. Have a great day!

Palazzo Stern is beautiful. Our room overlooking the Grand Canal was spacious and ideal for our family of four. A king bed (two twins pushed together) and two twins (one for each child) left plenty of walking space. Bedding was clean and comfortable. Plenty of toiletries. Our view was amazing. Hotel staff was couteous and efficient. Breakfast downstairs had a nice variety and overlooks the grand canal. One negative is that the shower was a bit small and awkward. Bathroom itself was gorgeous. A modesty curtain in the bathroom would be helpfully instead of a sheer curtain. We would certainly stay here again.
