The hotel and staff were fantastic. Perfect, unassuming service. Hotel is next to a Valpretto stop. The room was beautiful, clean and very unique. We will certainly stay at the Hotel Palazzo Stern again.

The Palazzo Stern is right on the Grand Canal with a spectacular terrace overlooking the canal. While only minutes away from Piazzo San Marco it is in a quiet area away from the crowds. There is a water bus stop right outside the exit of the hotel though walking to top attractions is also very convenient. The hotel is beautifully decorated, the rooms maintained the ancient appearance and feel while offering modern amenities. The service was excellent. My wife and I were there for two nights and will be coming back soon.

We stayed in a junior suite which overlooked the Grand Canal. This isn’t a “suite” with a separate area for relaxing, but it is a larger room with two beds, two chairs and a table. As someone else has mentioned, our room was very warm as the air conditioning had been switched off due to the season! The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was large but the water pressure was a bit on the low side. The continental side of the breakfast was good, but we didn’t really rate the offering for the hot choice. It was kept warm by way of a hot water bath underneath but the food was hardly warm and the eggs looked a bit rubbery. Coffee and tea were replenished regularly. This may sound stupid but if you don’t want to be woken up very early in the morning by the canal traffic and the church bells, take a room away from the canal. We expected it to be busy but were surprised by just how busy and how early the canal traffic started. However, after the first morning we managed to sleep through the noise! Don’t let this put you off the hotel though as it is a great place to stay. The reception staff were very helpful. We loved Venice and for our first ever trip the Palazzo stern was a great place to stay. It took about 20 minutes to walk to the Rialto Bridge and just a few minutes more to St Mark’s Square.

Wonderful hotel on the canal close to attractions but far enough way to be nice and quiet. Breakfast was great with a variety of options, room was beautifully appointed. As others have said be sure to splurge on a room facing the canal. It was wonderful waking up and enjoying the canals comings and goings.

The location of the Palazzo Stern is awesome and with their front canal side patio, you can't go wrong here. We were out there for breakfast, late afternoon beer/wine and last call before we headed up to bed later in the night. However, you almost always have to ask for someone to tend the bar as no one is there managing it full time. The white wine pours were not good at all (several sips of wine and its gone; I ordered a glass daily). I switched to red wine where they always gave me a good pour and the liquor drinks were good.

With respect to their own boat, we never saw it and our understanding is that they only will give you a ride to their sister hotel's restaurant (which looks nice) or Murano, so you cannot catch a ride from them anywhere else but we didn't mind walking. We didn't use the water bus next door at all but that is right there if you need it.

Our room was spacious tut there was no air conditioning despite it being very warm outside during our stay. We asked the front desk several times but were told they consider it "winter". Our room usually was very hot when we got back so we'd open the windows as needed. The shower had very poor water pressure and the pillows had no support but we didn't think to ask them if they had any solid pillows.

The free breakfast every morning was excellent and a great way to start each day while sitting outside on their canal patio. For a private taxi to the airport be sure to have them book it for you the day before or first thing in the morning. The front desk indicated it would only take 10 minutes so to just have them call when we checked out but we had to wait over 30 minutes for the taxi to show up which led to some stress at the airport. However, this is a great hotel in the end where we would definitely stay again.
