“Perfect location, excellent service, in a beautiful place!”
Reviewed 29 July 2010

This hotel could not have been any better! The staff were extremely helpfual and friendly. We were supposed to be getting a train down to Pisa, and there was a 24 hour public transport strike - the receptionist Francesco spent ages on the phone, and arranged us a hire car instead. We were very grateful.
The location was close enough to walk to all the attractions, San Marco, Rialto Bridge, etc. The terrace out front where we had breakfast was lovely, you could watch gondolas going past as you sat there. It was equally lovely to sit and have a drink there at night.
the rooms were spotless, cleaned twice everyday, and we had chocolates left on our pillow every night, along with a little card with the weather forecast for the following day!
It was our honeymoon, so they gave us a free bottle of sparkling wine, which was chilled and waiting for us in the room when we arrived.
The breakfast was the best of all the 4 hotels we stayed at during our time in italy - bacon, eggs, toast, lots of fruit, yogurts, pastries etc, all delicious.
All in all this hotel was absolutely perfect for us, it was very quiet too, with good air conditioning and good shutters on the windows.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone who is going to Venice!!!

Beautifully restored, elegant decor, quiet rooms and outstanding service. We spent 5 nights during the european "heatwave" and Venice was filled to the brim with visitors anxious to join the yearly celebration of the end of the Bubonic Plague. Our trendy hotel has a wonderful patio on the grand canal allowing us to view the parade of decorated boats and see the fireworks taking place nearby. Vaparetto stop right outside the hotel-
Hotel is perfect for travelers searching for a place near the action of Venice, yet peace, quiet and cool rooms.

I have read nearly every review on Pl.Stern. I also did extensive research prior to coming to Venice. This property met all the expectations. The ease of communicating from back home was excellent, prior to arrival. The reviews were 99 percent on target and extremely helpful. Seeing that Roberto posted comments to the comments was impressive.
Here are a few points that would elevate the property to the top ten in Venice.
I was in suite 405. Just lovely. There are many comments about this suite on line. The suite needs a few modifications.
The bathtub is an accident waiting to happen. This can be corrected with the installation of two small hand rails, and perhaps a small safety step . The counter top is too small to display your items. This can be fixed with the installation of one or two glass shelves. There are not ample towel racks, so there is no place to hook your clothes while in the shower. There is no robe, so when you have come back from 8 hours of touring for an afternoon shower, and you are not ready to get dressed again, and want to take a picture of the rainbow over St. Marco, you have nothing to put on.
The front desk staff is cordial when addressed, but if you do not address them, you are barely acknowledged. It would be so helpful as other reviewers have posted, to have a welcome sheet that lists some of the special things going on in Venice at the moment, such as the exhibitions, the potential fireworks and such.
The web site could also offer some additional information. For instance just a sentence or two here and there of information. For instance. If one described how very easy it is to prepay for the water taxi to the hotel, and that you get a 10E discount for prebooking a return or to your ship....Or that the neighborhood just near by has a little supermarket, many pay phones,an internet cafe etc.
The free internet now offered here is a HUGE bonus. With my lap top and skype We were able to make many hours of calls back to the states at either no charge or 2 cents per minute.
This is a fantastic property. I travel all over the world and report back to one of the larger luxury agencies in The States. They were not familiar with this property, but now they are.
I basically told them to highly recommend the hotel, but to ask a few questions if they have an elderly couple with a hip condition. In which case they would be unable to stay in the best suite in the hotel, with the balcony.
Bravo.

Dear Friend,

thank a lot for this very detailed review.
I really appreciate your idea about the bathroom, this is the kind of things that we are looking for to improve our level of service. I'm sorry for the robe, it had to be in the bathroom.
Please remember than in some other Junior Suites we have both bathtub and walk-in shower, this makes the life easier for all those who are in trouble with their legs.

We have a website with many information about Venice, and a blog with the latest news as well. There is a link in our homepage (sorry but I cannot post the link here).
We will anyway print the "latest news", as you suggest, and leave them at the reception for everyone.

I'm sorry that I didn't had the chance to meet you, I was in holiday during the last few days!!! MAybe I will have this chance the next time you will come to Venice.

Thanks again and have a great day!!!

Roberto

PRO: Other reviewers said it all.

#1 Restoration of the palazzo. Like no other hotels claiming their long histories. The 15th century Moorish -Islamic- palazzo bought by an art collector in the early 20th century is now restored by a new owner with (I am guessing here) a great artistic / creative vision. As a result, the palazzo is not just restored and renovated but transformed.

#2 Attention to the details (both the hotel facility itself and the service) CON: very minor... a slow internet (but it's free) and no bathrobe

#3 Relatively reasonable room rate for what you get. Very important.

FINAL THOUGHTS: I would recommend this hotel to my friends with confidence

Palazzo Stern is an excellent hotel in a great location. Right on the Grand Canal with a vaparetto stop a few metres away. A good breakfast is taken on the terrace. the service is very good. We would stay there again.

Great hotel in great location at a resonable cost. Everything was clean and brand new. Breakfast was great and you could sit out on the grand canal side patio to eat breakfast. The hotel was in a great location. Right next to the water bus stop and you could walk to everything. It would be helpful it the hotel could provide more infomation about the sites, tours to take and things to do around the city.

The hotel is luxuriously appointed with decor and fittings sympathetic to its architecture. The outside terrace facing la Canle Grande is an excellent spot to enjoy breakfast or indeed a night-cap affording views to l'Accademia.

The lack of a restaurant is more than compensated for by the large number of bars and restaurants in the surrounding area, although, the hotel itself enjoys a quiet, relaxing ambience.

There is a convenient taxi-stop and the Vaporetto boarding point is only yards away.

The multi lingual, highly trained waiting and front-desk staff are very helpful and friendly.
I would reccomend this hotel to anyone.
