Alberto met us at the Vaparetto as planned. Throughout our planning the owners were very attentive and responsive to any inquiry or need, they were great communicators. The apartment is as others have described. Small kitchen table and sofa bed. Seperate bathroom and main bedroom with an extra single. One adult and two young adults were comfortable. Sofa bed very comfortable. All appliances worked perfectly, Alberto showed us how to use the washer and dryer - no issues. Internet was flawless. The shower is small yes, so if you are a big person this maybe a difficulty. Our special treat was opening the windows and having the singing Gondoliers go by, it never got old. For location this is a five star location. 5 minutes to San Marco, 5 minutes to Academia bridge, 10 minutes to Rialto bridge, 200ft from Vaporetto and Gondola transfer. Special mention to the owners as our times changed and the owners were very accommodating to let my niece stay a few hours later than planned. Would stay here again when returning to Venice
The apartment was pretty much as advertised. I forgot that first floor in Europe meant second floor and the steps were a bit much for an 88 year olds to go up and down several times. We were met as others have said by the son who then showed us around San Marco ( for 50 Euro ) while the apartment was cleaned and helped us find a pharmacy. I asked him if he would guide us the next day and he said he would call me. He did not. On our third night I called and asked him to help get the luggage down the steps the next morning and he said he would have to check and would text me. He did not. For those (did nots ) I rated it an average. After lugging the luggage down the steps I was lucky enough to find a hotel close by who called a water taxi for us that came right to their dock and they gave us coffee and water while we waited. If I were to return I would stay at Zur Bergstrasse Hotel where they know how to treat guests and folks in need .
Our visit started with Martina's son Alberto meeting us at the vaporetto drop off area as promised. It was a short walk to the apartment (no bridges to cross with our heavy luggage). Martina greeted us nearby. The apartment was at the end of a quiet alley and right on a canal with the gondolas. It was charming and relaxing. It was very convenient to just about everything. If you leave the apartment and go one way, you are at an intersection that is fairly busy.It will get you to St. Marks Square, Accademia and the vaporetto stops very easily. If you go the other way (just a few steps), there is a very quiet canal intersection with much less foot traffic. It is a great spot to just sip a drink in the evening in relative peace and quiet. There is a nice breeze in the apartment with the windows opened. It also has an air conditioning unit in the main sitting area. I strongly recommend this unit and plan to inquire about it for my next trip (which hopefully wont be too far away)
What Ca’ Del Giglio lacks in charm it makes up for in convenience, location, price, being on the first floor and most necessities. Plus the singing gondoliers!!! The building is old and not very appealing when you walk into the entry. Smells musty. The bathroom is fine, but time to update and enlarge the shower. Shower is tiny and the shower curtain is a bit of a pain. Location is right by a quiet square with an old church and a short 3 minute walk to the nearest vaporatto stop. It took us about 10 minutes to walk to St Marks square and that is with my sister who has some walking difficulties. Very close by is another square (about 5 min and over 2 canal bridges) where there are 2 excellent restaurants, and just past that is the market. The windows on one side open to a small canal and by 9am until evening you can watch and listen to the gondolas going by with some wonderful singers and even an accordion player. It was delightful listening to them. If you close the windows at night you shouldn’t be woken by the trash boats in the morning. The weather was perfect when we were there so we could keep them open during the day and close them at night. Alberto met us at the water bus stop (water taxi will take you to same place) and helped me with my large suitcase up the One flight of stairs (19 steps for those concerned). The apartment was clean, bed was comfortable and it pretty much had most of what we needed, except an easy way to make coffee so we just got some instant. It was nice having a washing machine and although it had a setting to use it also as a dryer we couldn’t get it to work, so we hung our clothes outside which worked out great. Wouldn’t have been so great if it had rained. It would be nice to have concise instructions available on the washing machine as I don’t think Alberto had a great handle on how to use it with the dryer setting. Our morning flight was cancelled flying out of Venice (we were scheduled to check out by 8:30) and Martina responded quickly by text that we could stay until cleaning crew came in, it was too late notice to extend any longer, (11am). All in all, I would recommend this apartment and would probably consider staying here again when we return to Venice if we want to be in St Marks area.
A text to the apartment owner meant that her son, Alberto was at the water bus stop waiting for us when we arrived. He led us to the apartment pointing out directions on the way. Only one flight of stairs to our home for seven nights. It is a decent size with a large bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and combined lounge dining room. There are windows looking out onto a narrow canal frequented by gondoliers. Bed was very comfortable, kitchen was well stocked with cooking equipment enabling us to cook several fantastic meals with local produce, wifi was excellent, location was perfect. The only negative was the the shower head and the size of the shower recess.
Met by Alberto. Easy to find thankfully. The apartment had all that was needed and more. Martina even had wellies (if I had found them in time!) for use in case of flooding. Close enough to St Marco but easy to walk the other directions to the less crowded squares and places to eat. It was really quiet at night - only woken by the barge collecting the laundry from the next door hotel in the morning but much quieter than cars! We went to the opera (musica a Palazzo) which is about 2 minutes walk from the apartment to see an opera. Wonderful setting and nice to be close to the flat.. Thank you Martina.
Just as agreed in our communication, Martina met us at the Vaporetto stop - a straight run on the orange line from the airport. The apartment is less than 5 minutes walk from the wharf, and is on the first floor of a building overlooking a canal which is a regular part of the gondola route. We got all the serenades at no cost! The apartment is clean, comfortable and very well equipped in every respect. It is - once you get the hang of Venice navigation - a 10 minute walk to San Marco or the Rialto- and less to the Accademia. And th Fenice is 3 minutes’ walk. The only minor issues might be the tiny shower and the lack of a light over the kitchen sink.
