“A Highlight of our Trip”
Reviewed 14 May 2013

We stumbled upon this trattoria during our stay in Verona, and decided to give it a try in large part thanks to reviews on TripAdvisor. In all, our dinner at Trattoria Dal Gal was one of the best dining experiences of my life (no exaggeration).

To begin, we were greeted by two incredibly friendly members of the staff (this is a family run establishment FYI), and had the pleasure of being taken care of by Leonardo, one of the sons in the family. My fiance and I unfortunately know very little Italian, but Leonardo's english was great, and we chatted with him a bit and simply entrusted him to make some selections for us. He did not disappoint. He even chose a great bottle of wine to go with our meal and shared a story of where it originates in Italy and some other background about the grapes, vineyards, etc.

The food was AMAZING. Leonardo chose the 5 "primi piatti" tastings which were all unbelievably delicious. You get to try 5 separate pasta specialties of which all the pastas & sauces are handmade from scratch. There was a strong sense of pride among Leonardo and the other lovely woman who was serving us. You could tell that this family takes their dishes seriously and puts a lot of hard work into making everything from scratch, and it sure comes through in the quality of the food and the overall experience.

Although we were stuffed after our meal, we opted for dessert (why not) which was also amazing. Leonardo and the rest of the staff were so friendly and helpful and made us feel more like family as opposed to just customers in their restaurant. A huge plus when traveling in a foreign country where you may not speak the local language.

Finally, for how great the food, wine, atmosphere, and overall experience was, the prices are surprisingly affordable. The 5 primi piatti tasting course that we both had was only $20EUR per person. A price I would gladly pay again and again for those dishes. The lovely bottle of wine that Leonardo selected for us was also a good price as were the desserts. We were out the door including a nice tip (which I realize isn't as common to do as back in the U.S.) for under $100 EUR. A fantastic dining experience in a gorgeous setting with wonderful people. Well worth every penny (or euro...).

One final plus for Trattoriaa Dal Gal is that it isn't located directly in busy "downtown" Verona. It's a couple of kilometers out in a much more mellow residential area. A much needed reprieve after dealing with the hordes of tourists and locals alike in Verona. They also provide FREE PARKING out the back if you happen to be driving.

If you are visiting Verona, check them out, you will not regret it.

“A Warm Welcome in Verona”
Reviewed 15 April 2013

We liked it. People told us to go there because of their main dishes and they were right. Maybe just too much salt but the atmosphere, mood and taste were superb. Good wines too. We warmly suggest it.

It 'a fantastic "trattoria" where you can taste the 5 "primi piatti" pasta for 20 euro.
Real home cooking in harmony and simplicity.
This trattoria in S.Massimo remains at 10 mn of Verona and has parking for customers.
It 'best to book

“One of the best places to enjoy homemade pasta”
Reviewed 11 December 2012

This is definitely one of my all time favorites for pasta. A family run restaurant with a wonderful service and attention to the clients. The assortment of pasta is simply delicious and mouthwatering. Enjoy.
