As mentioned by other reviewers, Mathia is one of the most helpful hosts you will meet. We stayed at Il Vicolo with our family of 7 during the opera season. Because of road work, our GPS wouldn't lead us to the Il Vicolo. We called to let Mathia know we would be late, and he helped get us to the Il Vicolo. He then road with my husband to assist him park our 9 passenger van (Italian roads and garages are NOT designed for vehicles much larger than Fiats, let alone 9 passenger beasts, lol!). We were welcomed to our apartment with snacks and a bottle of wine, a tour of the apartment by Mathia, and left with an invitation to call him with any questions or concerns. He gave us a map of useful locations we might need to visit, such as markets, the bakery, and sights to see. We saw him over the course of our stay and took advantage of his offer for directions and insights to the area. After we left Il Vicolo, he found we had left behind an adapter to one of our electronic devices. He contacted our travel concierge (we were out of range to get his message) and arranged to have it mailed to our next location! Grazie, Mathia!!
The apartment itself was great, very quiet, a short walk over the bridge into the heart of Verona. There is a little grocery not far away, and a great wine bar and pizza place within a couple blocks. Just around the corner is a little restaurant where we had lasagna made from Nonna's recipe that tastes just like my Italian mama's.
As Americans, we were prepared for European-sized accommodations. We were pleasantly surprised at how large the apartment was. We very comfortably housed a family of 7 for four days. The kitchen was very nice sized, as was the bathroom. Our kids ranked it the very best kitchen of our 3 week tour. Having a washer in the unit was fabulous and there are even laundry soap packets to get us started. With 5 children in tow, having a chance to do some much-needed laundry is a big plus and allows for lighter bags, as we didn't need to pack as many changes of clothes. The bathroom was large with a tub and separate shower and well-stocked with towels and paper products.
If we make it back to Verona, we will certainly stay again at Il Vicolo . We all highly recommend.
