My booking said check in at Marco Polo Hotel, but the phone number was a completely different hotel, who gave us directions to them but didn't give their name so it took ages to work out. The Gallery Room looked lovely 'til we came to unpack, then we found nowhere to put underwear, socks or t-shirts etc! The wardrobe had a big mini-bar in it, but only held a couple of sodas and bottles of water. When you opened the door of the wardrobe, it smashed into the flat-screen tv on the wall. Bathroom had only one hook to hold all towels, clothing or bath robes and there was no soap dish. The safety notices were so high on the wall you needed to stand on a chair to read them. The headboard was 'designed' using a mirror - very sensible! Hotel stank of Chlorine.

This was a fantastic find , at a great price, relatively new building and the best thing about it .. It has a spa. Verona is a small city but this is so central to everything, we walked everywhere. Would highly recommend it. We didn't get breakfast included but there are so many places nearby that breakfast is not an issue.

I stayed here with a friend in May 2011 for 2 nights. In general, we were disappointed by Verona, finding it comparing unfavourably to Ferrara and Bologna. This hotel was fine, there was some mixup with our room, which they sorted out very smoothly. It's a slight distance walking into the centre than we would have liked. But no major complaints.

The staff was very helpful, friendly, attentive, and welcoming and made for a very pleasant stay. The location was terrific, quiet and quite close to the center of town. The rooms seemed to be quite new, nicely decorated.

Myself and my partner stayed in an economy room at the Gallery Room for 2 nights and were really impressed, fantastic value for money! The room was on the top floor and was very modern, newly converted, but retaining some character. Both the bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean and much more spacious than expected, particularly as we had booked one of the cheaper rooms.

There was a free safe and excellent air conditioning which we really did need - during our stay the weather was very warm and humid. To begin with we thought the air con wasn't working but the receptionist advised that it only worked if the door and windows were completely closed. Once we knew this we had no problems with it at all and enjoyed a lovely cool room!

The reception is over the road at the Marco Polo hotel and we found the receptionists to be very polite, helpful and friendly. One provided us with a map and recommendations of parks we could visit to take a break from the heat.

Breakfast was not included with our room but could be obtained at the Marco Polo hotel at a cost of 8 Euros each. We gave this a try the first morning but found the breakfast room to be completely lacking in atmosphere with no windows, no background music and only ourselves there! The breakfast was a buffet - cereal, toast, some very thin bacon and scrambled egg, cakes, fruit etc. It was ok but we didn't bother with it on our second morning.

The Gallery Room is ideally located for all the tourist attractions in the historical centre of Verona. It was only a 5 minute walk to Piazza Bra where the Roman arena can be found. Most other sights were only 10 minutes max from there. The hotel was also within easy walking distance from Verona Porto Nuova station.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Verona and found food and drink prices to be more reasonable than we had been expecting. We ate both in Piazza Bra (pizza 7-9 Euros, wine 9-10 Euros for a litre) and at the pizzeria opposite the entrance to the Gallery Room, which was slightly cheaper as it's off the beaten track and the staff were very friendly, advising us that we were ordering too much food and offering to cook half portions so that we could still try all the dishes we had chosen!

I would definitely recommend the Gallery Room to anyone visiting Verona and would stay again myself without hesitation!

Great value for money and very convenient location. I travelled with my husband and 8 month old daughter. The main tourist sites (arena, juliett's balcony etc) were all within (approx 5 min) )walking distance of our hotel. We only needed to use a taxi once and that was to the airport, which took 15 mins and cost 25 euros.

The receptionist was politely and helpful, in fact I found the Italian's wherever we went very pleasant. We stayed in the 'economy' room which was clean and stylish. I suspect it's smaller than the 'standard' and 'superior' but the comfortable bed is quite large and there is plenty of storage space. The safe was useful and didn't cost extra. The bathroom is lovely - looked brand new. However, I think the room would have benefitted with a more powerful shower and a kettle (as we needed boiled water to make up our daughter's formula milk).
