Crowne Plaza Hotel Verona - Fiera

Because staying in Verona overnight was not in my original itinerary, I had to find Verona accommodation at the last minute of arrival after dark on a Friday night. The phone number that I rang was the global booking centre of Crowne Plaza, and the operator was at first thinking that I was looking for a hotel in the U.S.; but he ended up arranging a reasonably good deal. I found out that the hotel booking centre physically located in the Phillippines. This hotel is newly built, I could smell the fresh cement/concrete inside the room, but the room was up to the standard of other Crowne Plaza, i.e. everything is clean, nice and new, plus quiet through out. Because the hotel is located a bit off from the historic city centre, you can easily park your car outside hotel, parking in Verona city centre would have been a big stress & cost. I had a view of half residential, half industrial area of Verona quite different from what I saw in the city centre, but I didn't stay there for a view. Breakfast was at cost, which I didn't choose as I wanted to explore some traditional cafes in Verona. Professional and kind staff even when encountered on the hall way. One tiny surprise was a mosquito found inside the hotel room in the first week of November.

Since I am IHG Platinum member, we chose this hotel for our recent trip to Verona. This is a great hotel, if you can ignore the poor location. The rooms are modern, comfortable and spacious, it offers all the amenities you may need. They offer a free shuttle service (but you have to reserve in advance to get a seat) which we used one day to get to the city around noon and back in the evening, it takes 5-10 minutes to drive, so you may also take a taxi if needed. If you want a hotel where you can walk out into the city-life any time of the day, this is probably not for you. If you want a comfortable place to sleep at night and can accept a "really" short trip to the city in the morning and back in the evening this is hotel is great.

The Crowne Plaza is out by the exhibition halls in Verona and is a new build - lots of eco touches such as outside blinds which come down when the rooms are unoccupied and so prevent heat gain. It is very well designed throughout. The rooms are modern and chic with soft greys, browns and lilacs; well lit too. The lobby/lounge is decorated in vibrant colours and there is a smart breakfast room/restaurant. Staff are very friendly, professional and on the ball. Shirts are €8.

There is a free shuttle into town; a cab costs about €10. This hotel is a far better bet than the overpriced central hotels in opera season, it is both good value and smarter.

Hotel - This is one of the best Crown Plaza Hotels I have stayed in and I have stayed in quite a few all over the world. Very contemporary and relatively new. It has been finished with very high quality German & Italian fixtures and fittings. Very comfortable rooms and excellent bathroom.
Location - situated closed to the Expo site (Fiera) around an industrial area. Hard to find a decent restaurant nearby. Having said that if you have a car, getting to the city is very easy. However, parking for the whole day can cost you a few bob (2-3 EUR/hour most car parks in the city).
Shuttle Bus - It is good service if you can get a seat when you want. Runs 3 (or 4) times in the morning and 3 (or 4) times in the evening, every hour. Very limited space available in a VW Transporter. Sad to say it was not available when I needed it most.
Reception staff - very helpful with information and maps about the city and nearby Lake Garda.
Housekeeping - Generally good. However, must learn to replace coffee making items that have been used during the day.
Breakfast - good, although not sure about the decor here. Rather a cheap look to the restaurant area. Did not have any other meals other than the breakfast.
Facilities - there is a gym and a roof top where you can relax. Not necessarily a nice view from up there due to the location. Free use of the hotel internet in the lobby for half an hour at a time. Free Wifi available only to elite Priority Club members. Basic level members not good enough then? That's BAAAD!!
Parking - plenty of free parking spaces available outside the hotel (off street). There is also an underground car park at 15 EUR/night.
Tips - if you are planning to use the shuttle bus, book in advance both your outward and inward journeys.

The hotel was great. Rooms are very clean. It makes a very good impression.
The hotel has a very nice terrace where you can use after being in the pool.
A bar in the terrace would be nice to have. Anyway, you are allowed to bring your own bottle of wine.
The hotel normally does NOT include breakfast and they ask for 18€ for a breakfast but you can go to the next corner and have a good breakfast for less than 9€.

We stayed here for only one night but boy did we all get a good nights sleep!( family of 4, two rooms) The staff were great, really helpful, the hotel was a little further away from the city centre than I expected but it was a short walk to a local bus stop, or an even quicker ride by taxi.
The rooftop garden gave really good views over the surrounding area and the pool looked brilliant, would have loved to use it but there wasn't enough time.
The beds were some of the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in, and the aromatherapy pillow spray ensured a perfect night's rest, the quality of the toiletries provided was excellent.
It would be possible to walk to the city centre but the road to get there was a little busy so I would not recommend it,also as the hotel is situated in an industrial area it did feel a little isolated walking back from the bus stop in the late evening. This is not meant as a criticism of the hotel only an observation in case you prefer to use local transport or walk to places when you are touring.
